Poem of the Week: Sometimes I Feel Happy
Bonjour Crème Parent,
This week we are beginning the PATHS Preschool curriculum. PATHS will be used
regularly throughout the year and will cover a number of different topics. We start the
year by reviewing the rules of our classroom. Children learn to follow many rules in
preschool. These rules are for mealtime, playtime and Circle Time.
Circle Time is a short group-learning period that takes place every week. During Circle
Time, we do PATHS lessons. At first, Circle Time is difficult for children because they
are asked to sit still and listen to the teacher.
Providing rules helps children learn new skills. Rules also help children feel more secure
because they let the children know what is expected. When we give them rules it is
important to explain the reason for the rules. This way the children will understand why
these behaviors are important (for example, safety or getting along with others).
We will encourage your child to talk about PATHS with you at home, and we will keep
you up-to-date as we go along. Your child is bringing home the first Parent-Child activity
today. It involves discussing the rules that he or she is supposed to follow at home. Please
let me know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. As always you can
reach me at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Rita Lewis
Director of Curriculum
