2015
3RD TO 6 TH
AUGUST
The India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) is a
unique platform envisaged to showcase a diverse
range of jewellery on the runway and establish the
design strength of Indian artists. A rst-of-its-kind
event in the world, this jewellery extravaganza
organised by the Gem and Jewellery Export
Promotion Council (GJEPC), has over the years, seen
some of the most reputed jewellery designers and
brands displaying their high-end pr6t, couture and
bridal collections on the ramp.
Some of the most celebrated as well as emerging
jewellery designers from top design institutes in India
have used this platform to dazzle the audience with
their innovative experiments in contemporary forms.
India is a veritable treasure-house and is known for its
rich traditional jewellery art forms - be it Jadau,
Kundan-Meena, Temple, Bridal, Thewa or Tribal
jewellery. And in a tting tribute to the eclectic
jewellery crafts of the country, the IIJW helps
designers promote the expertise of local arts by
blending fresh and futuristic ideas on the runway,
making it the most sought after haute design
destination for fashionistas, jewellery a cionados and
national and international buyers.
Every year, the IIJW sets trends for the coming season.
Last year, 24 jewellery houses and designers displayed
an array of dazzling collections that took the stage by
storm. The innovative pieces for the arms and hands
included Bazubands (armlets), Manchettes (long
cuffs), Haath Phools (wrist and hand ornaments) and
oversized bracelets. Rings too were the focus of
attention for most designers who presented single, full
and double- nger ring sets with large diamonds and
coloured gemstones in breath-taking patterns. Tassels
found a new interpretation in pendants, chandeliers as
well as statement cuffs. Chand baalis (crescentshaped earrings) and novel open-ended necklaces
with oral engravings ruled the runway, while the
shoulder ornaments got a complete makeover. Adding
glamour to the magni cent event every year are scores
of top models, celebrities and actors, including Sonam
Kapoor, the GJEPC's brand ambassador.
The IIJW over the years has showcased jewellery
designers from across the globe namely Stephane
Webster, Boucheron, Farah Khan Ali, Birdhichand
Ghanshyamdas, P.C. Jewellers, Nirav Modi, Ganjam,
Golechas, Gitanjali, P.N. Gadgil, Pallavi Foley, Moni
Agarwal and the likes.
The IIJW as a property, now in its 6th edition, has
proved to the world that globally, India is one of the
prime destinations for jewellery with design talents
that are absolutely world class.
