Quality Buyers Boost Exhibitor Satisfaction! The 27th IJT drew 27,311 trade buyers from all over Japan and Asia Pacific region. Held from January 20th to 23rd, 2016, the 27th International Jewellery Tokyo (IJT) drew a highly successful close with 1,089 exhibitors participating from 31 countries/regions and 27,311 quality buyers from all over Japan and the region. Two ‐ third of the companies were Japanese, while the remaining one ‐ third were international companies. International exhibitors gathered from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Korea, Lithuania, Monaco, Myanmar, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, UK, and the USA. During the four‐day show period, vibrant business was conducted throughout the venue. Started 27 years ago IJT is one of the world’s longest running jewellery fairs. 52 dignitaries including leading jewellery retailers, and government representatives from all over japan and the world participated in the inaugural opening ribbon cut ceremony held on the morning of January 20th. They included leading Japanese retailers namely As‐me Estelle Co., Ltd. (528 stores), Sada‐matsu Co., Ltd. (94 stores), Stone Market Co., Ltd. (141 stores), and Verite Co., Ltd. (83 stores), and leading overseas retailers for instance Shen Zhen Sunfeel Jewelry Co., Ltd., (1,800 stores, leading chain store in China), and Chow Sang Sang Holdings International Ltd., (418 1
stores, leading retailer in Hong Kong) etc.. Amidst the improved market sentiments in Japan, many of the companies who participated in the show voiced their opinion that they met more buyers than last year, and there was a buzz on the show floor. Grand Opening Ribbon Cut Ceremony was attended by 52 industry VIPs and ambassadors from the world. Buyers from Asia and the world sourced proactively on‐site. The number of international visitors at IJT has been increasing in recent years. This year, about 2,000 of them visited the fair from all around the world, particularly Asia. Out of them 1,000 were premium buyers hosted by the organiser, from countries including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, and India etc. There were plenty of reasons why that many buyers were attracted to IJT. Among them, the high quality, huge selection, exclusive design, and price competitiveness of the products at IJT, in particular, draw international buyers like magnets. Furthermore, to facilitate their buying on‐site, the organiser provided to these premium buyers concierge service that included assistance with interpreting. Some of their favourite products were pearls, diamonds, platinum jewellery, and high quality gemstones. IJT is recognised as the most important sourcing venue at the start of the year in Asia! Good Business Resulted in High Satisfaction among Exhibitors There were many support services available for exhibitors that helped boost on‐site business such as the Overseas Jewellery Sourcing Guide, which featured overseas exhibitors’ products. The guide includes company information, product features with photos and booth number of each of the exhibitors listed in it. Prior to the 2016 show, the guide was distributed to 5,000 major Japanese Importers, wholesalers/Distributers and Retailers who were interested in sourcing overseas jewelleries, attracting more visitors to their booths as well as enhancing appointments with buyers at the show. In addition, Show Management provided first‐time overseas exhibitors with company introduction sheets in Japanese to promote their communication with domestic buyers. Many of the international exhibitors were satisfied with those services because they helped attract many Japanese buyers to their booths. Also, riding on the improved market conditions and strong revival of the Japan economy, sales of jewellery have shown robust growth in Japan. 3
Reception Party & the 27th Best Jewellery Wearer Awards Ceremony H.E. Mr. Thierry Dana, Ambassador of France made the toast at the IJT Reception Party. 27th Japan Best Jewellery Wearer Awards Winners Every year IJT attracts enormous media attention nationwide, not only because it is an established trade event, but also for its glamourous events ‐ IJT Reception Party and Japan Best Jewellery Wearer Awards Ceremony. This year was no exception. The IJT Reception Party drew more than 1,000 people, provided not only a place for meaningful exchanges between industry members, but also created a wow effect that instantly made it the talk‐of‐ the‐town. The Japan Best Jewellery Wearer Awards Ceremony, which has been held since the first IJT, presents award to the country’s most popular personalities of the year, for their glamourous jewellery fashion sense or shining character. This year’s award recipients consisted of six beautiful and famous actresses, model and artists, each representing a different age group, such as Nana Komatsu from the 10’s category and Akiko Wada from the 60’s category. The winner in the male category was famous Japanese artist/talent, DAIGO. The Special Awards were presented to Ayaka Sasaki with MOMOIRO CLOVER Z (Japanese famous idol group) and Ebizo Ichikawa (Japanese famous Kabuki actor) in Japan.
