REINER August 2013 WE ST C OA ST REI NI NG HOR SE A S S O C I ATI ON Affliate 3&4 Show Results The competition was fierce but the weather was not at the third and fourth WCRHA Affiliate shows held May 23-26 at Murieta Equestrian Center at Rancho Murieta. Just over 200 horses and riders enjoyed the high 70s, low 80s which held for all four days of the show. AFFILIATE #3 A full slate of Open classes started the first day of competition. Winning first out of 14 entries in the Open, with a blistering score of 74.5 and the high score of both shows, was David Hanson on Load Your Gun owned by Giselle Turchet. Kelli Brooksby & Durable Diamond Close behind with 73.5 was Ollie Galligan on Lavonne Sturgeon’s California Shines. David and Ollie also won first and second respectively in the Intermediate Open. In the Limited Open, Joanna Brewer riding Nu Chex Bueno Badger owned by Karin Di Napoli and Steve Allen riding his own Diamond Tari shared first place honors with scores of 71. Steve and Joanna also tied for first in the Rookie Professional class. In the Prime Time Open, Mike Boyle showed I Spook owned by Vicki Diaz to win the class with a 72, while second place went to Joni Carvin on Tuffy’s Dixie owned by Derek Brummett and Kelli Brooksby. Next up were the Non Pro Novice Horse classes. With a score of 71.5, WCRHA Youth member, Courtney Yohey, bested the Level I class on her own Imasmartlittlecheese. Close behind was Terry Holland on board her own Spooks Jac. With a score of 72.5, the Non Pro Novice Horse L2 first place award went to Debi Murnan and Chromer Simpson. Close on her heels was Megan Lindberg on her Carmel Candied Tag with a score of 72. Continued on page 11 President’s Letter If one looks at the Kiser Dragmaster website it states: “There is nothing more frustrating for a horse owner than to have his/her horse sidelined or to spend thousands of dollars with the vet due to "soundness-related" injuries! The secret to having safe and proper footing for your horses is a combination of many things and it is different for every equine discipline. The combination of the proper moisture content, right depth, right consistency, levelness and lack of hard/soft spots is critical.” The WCRHA strives to have the best footing on the West Coast to avoid injuries and to allow participants to show off their talented athletes. At our last WCRHA affiliates #5 and #6 shows, held at Brookside Equestrian Park, WCRHA and Brookside partnered to hire professional Thad Carr and his arena Continued on page 2 2013 WCRHA OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS President Ollie Galligan | 707-486-9595 Secretary Eileen Maxinoski | 831-722-3676 1st Vice President Kelli Brooksby | 209-748-1909 Treasurer Rachel Fingerle | 916-684-2555 2nd Vice President - Budget Mike Silva | 916-803-0495 Sargent of Arms Steve Allen | 530-304-6560 Larry Armer | 209-748-2246 JoAnn Campas | 916-687-4975 Sheila Day | 209-365-1391 Art Fingerle | 916-684-2555 David Hanson | 209-601-1864 Diane Kovach | 408-595-4128 Andy Lockwood | 805-748-5181 Debi Murnan | 530-559-1925 Christian Rammerstorfer | 303-243-0516 1 President’s Letter...from page 1 crew to operate the Kiser Drag to groom and maintain our footing. Our WCRHA members were very satisfied with our efforts and we hope our good ground will impress our WCRHA members while continuing to entice our reiner friends from Southern CA and Oregon. While we are on topic of the Affiliates#5 and #6, what a show week it was! The week started off very hot with the thermometer showing triple digit numbers through the 4th of July. By Friday and through the weekend we were in the mild, low 90s. The heat did not seem to deter many participants as we had a big show with over 200 filled stalls. As always, Bill Madden of Brookside Equestrian Park had the festivities lined up for our members and the pool on the grounds was well utilized by both the kids and adults who could steal a moment to cool off from the heat. Our membership enjoyed a fantastic dinner on the 4th of July followed by a fun fireworks display from the warm-up pen. Friday night everyone enjoyed the annual potluck dinner hosted by Melynda Silvashy and her mom, Bonnie, and Delbert Tullos. Saturday morning the WCRHA youth got together again to work the Farnam sponsored horse wash. We were proud that they were able to raise enough money to purchase their year-end saddle. The kids also worked into the evening feeding the rest of the WCRHA. During dinner we held the annual “Munchman Derby” dog races. We again ran two categories of large and small dogs and the breeds ranged from Chihuahuas to Shepherds to Labs. The winners were familiar to the racing arena, having won last year’s races as well! Following the dog races we had an impromptu comical trainer’s race, which included very reluctant participants in various forms of racing footwear; bare feet to cowboy boots with spurs still attached. My legs are still burning! What makes the WCRHA a special association and the largest affiliate in the NRHA are the people. Our members are very talented and share a special camaraderie with one another no matter where they are located or what barn/ trainer they affiliate themselves with. The friendly rivalry allows for fun and welcoming competition. If you are interested in reining and want to show and learn, come join our family. Sincerely, WCRHA President, Ollie Galligan Our apologies to Suzy Majauskas for the error in the June newsletter. We stated that Nev Devine won the Limited Open class at Rein for the Roses, but Suzy actually won the tie breaker and received the plaque. 2 Congratulations, Suzy! WCRHA youth worked the Farnam sponsored HORSE WASH, raising enough money to purchase their year-end saddle! Without volunteers, there would not be a WCRHA. From the board members to the parents of the kids that ride. It takes all of us to make our WCRHA shows successful, well run, and fun for everyone. Our shows this year have been all of those things, but it only happens with the help of volunteers! If it wasn’t said at the shows, we appreciate the support and thank you for helping.
