A Summer Rescue by Meg Corcoran As an employee of Public Safety in Wildwood Crest, Ralph Grassi has developed quite a reputation around town as the go-to guy when it comes to animals in distress. His compassion for all things big and small (and oftentimes furry) has resulted in numerous animal rescues. Rumor has it that birds have been known to crawl right up his arm! When Carol Black and her husband spotted two baby sandpipers slip through the gutter openings at Denver and Seaview Avenues as they were crossing the street with their mother, she, naturally, knew the right man for the rescue mission. Shortly following Mrs. Black’s call, Ralph and his co-worker Dean Deritis were on the scene, removing the gutter and climbing the seven feet down to reach the struggling birds. Once back on dry ground, Ralph cleaned the baby birds and set them down in the hopes their mother would return for them. She did and the babies followed (one can only assume they were in need of some destressing family beach time). Ralph to the rescue once again! Above photos taken by Carol Black of Ralph Grassi & Dean Deritis(top) removing the heavy grail, (middle) Ralph coming up from underneath the street with the baby birds in his hand, and (bottom)Ralph releasing the little peeps back to nature. Since some people like to find errors, we regularly include a few in our publicatoins. 5 MILES Often it happens that we do not express our love for our friends or rather we are not able to show our affection for our friends, but it is necessary to make our friends feel that they are the most wanted people of our life. “A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.” of Smiles! If I had my way, I would introduce everyone in the whole world to each other.
