money. Participation is encouraged
but not forced at any activity.

WHO IS CAMP FOR?
Completed grades 1-5 by June 2013:
Each session for this age group is designed to allow campers the opportunity to be exposed to a little bit of every activity. Under the careful guidance of loving and well-trained counselors, younger campers
will participate in arts and crafts, Red Cross swim lessons, sports,
ice cream churning, canoeing/kayaking, hiking and archery. Making
friends and learning to live and work with others are important life
skills gained at camp.
Completed grades 6-9 by June 2013:
There are many options! Choose from Peforming Arts, Worldwide
Sports, Wet’n Wild, Sailing, Campfire Cafe, or an outtrip. Junior high
campers can climb the Lighthouse and tackle the High Ropes course;
paddle down the Au Sable River; learn to sail and participate in
teambuilding activities in new ways as they explore friendship with
staff and peers- very crucial at this age. Every outtrip or expedition
includes opportunities to develop outdoor living skills such as cooking and basic survival, as well as caring for group and personal gear.
Completed grades 10-11 by June 2013:
Work on sailing skills, hike Isle Royale National Park, climb
rock cliffs at Devil's Lake State Park, or develop leadership skills
through one of the Camp Westminster LifeWorks sessions:
Radical Faith, Radical Leadership, Radical Service, or Radical
Community
Every session for every age includes the best of Westminster’s
worship, Bible Quest, games, water activities, campfires, time at the
Camp Store, FOB (rest hour), and exploration in nature.

What is an outtrip or an expedition? For some campers, it may
be a one-day canoe trip on the Au Sable River. For others, it may
be a ferry ride and 3 days camping on South Manitou Island (a
favorite for first-time trip participants). For others, it may be
hiking along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

A BRIEF HISTORY
of
CAMP
WESTMINSTER
ON HIGGINS LAKE
After 87 summers, we have lots of traditions. Traditions like eating family style to build
community and singing after every meal. Traditions like Lumberjack Day and Thomas
Doggett Day and a Closing Councilfire. Traditions like respecting nature and listening
to it. Traditions like worshipping by Higgins Lake.
We have learned that every camper wants to be a part of a community that
values traditions. They want to feel a part of something bigger than themselves, a
part of something stable, wonderful and loving. A part of Camp Westminster.

Campers with food sensitivities and allergies are
encouraged to register for Free To Be - time away that
allows your child to not worry about food and enjoy
being a kid! If your camper wants to learn to cook in a
rustic setting, sign up for Pioneer Heritage or
Campfire Cafe. Outtrips and expeditions also provide
ample opportunities for kids to learn to prepare food
(and eat it!).Hungry for the annual Fish Fry? Attend
camp from July 7 - 20.

ON HIGGINS LAKE
Mealtimes
have always been an
important part of any community. It
is no different at Camp Westminster. We
just might prepare food a little differently...
cooking marshmallows on a stick over an
open fire... making pizza or enchiladas in
Dutch Ovens... joining together for an oldfashioned cookout... or baking bread in an
underground oven. Helping to get the food
ready provides time to contribute to the
community, learn healthy eating habits and
open minds to new ways of making and
tasting food. Eating together
encourages manners
and conversation.
Every day’s
menu is carefully
planned, including healthy
snacks in the afternoon.
Westminster has served
children with every dietary
need for many years. We
want your camper to have a
safe & tasty experience
when they come
to camp.

except where noted. A stayover option between sessions is available June 22-23. Bus transportation roundtrip from Detroit
