President’s Column
by Renee Hayden
Welcome to 2009! Since our last newsletter, we had our annual Christmas Party at the
home of Glen and Kay Newton and a Texas Tour of Holiday Lights through Sachse, ending
at the home of Warren and Julie Kline. A huge thank you to the Newtons and the Klines for
hosting these events.
The following special awards were announced during our Christmas Party:
Zealous Z Award – Nancy Quan
President’s Award – Warren Kline
Rookie of the Year – Jonathan Maddox
In Sachse, Christmas decorations gone high tech made for yards and houses covered in
lights all connected to computers and FM radio stations. Warren has already decided on a
larger light display for next year. 25,000 lights and still not enough! Wow!
January means our annual Board Meeting was held to discuss the direction of the club and
the various volunteer committees. New things coming to your club: Paypal as a way to pay
for club memberships for both new members and renewals. New hats and t-shirts will be
added this year. Member profiles will be back in the newsletters. Member profiles are a
way for us to get to know each other a little better. More car shows are in the works too.
Watch your email for details of upcoming club events. If you are a ZCoT member and you
do not receive occasional emails about the club, please send an email to Warren Kline at
[email protected] so that he can get you added to the email list.
Some of the upcoming events include our first Texas Tour of the year to Clark’s BBQ in
Tioga on Sunday, January 18th. We will meet at McDonald’s on Montfort and I635 at 9:30
am and leave at 10:00 am. We will drive together through the countryside and arrive in
Tioga for lunch. Be sure to bring your cameras and walkie-talkies. For more information,
please call Katy Taylor at 817-329-1641 or Kay Newton at 817-421-0139.

As part of our community service, the ZCOT crew will be cooking lunch at Ronald McDonald house on Sunday, January 25th. We cook lunch for about 40 guests. It’s great fun too.
We arrive about 11:00 am. If you are interested in participating or need more information,
please call Katy Taylor at 817-329-1641.
Autorama is coming up soon on February 13th-15th and will be held at Dallas Market Hall.
The club will have a display of 6 cars competing individually and as a club. Our display was
updated last year with video screens and this year we will have new carpet. We won the
Best Club Display for the last couple of years not only for the display and the cars, but for
our members as well. Autorama is our opportunity to work within the display to meet and
tell potential new members about our club. We have a lot of fun too.

Meeting Minutes
by Katy Taylor
The November 19, 2008, meeting of Z Club of Texas was called to order at New New Buffet in Addison, Texas, by President Lisa Stong. Lisa introduced the officers: Glen Newton, Vice President; Kay Newton, Treasurer; and Nancy Quan, acting as Secretary for
Katy Taylor. Lisa then asked new members and visitors to introduce themselves.
P.O. Box 2766
Grapevine, TX 76099-2766
Treasurer’s report: Kay Newton worked her magic and convinced about 10 members to
renew their membership. She also requested an audit committee of three people to
go over the books in January. Bill Amdall, Mike Taylor, and Warren Kline obliged. Lisa
reported that the officers held a meeting over the previous weekend and voted to research
carpeting for the Z Car display. The cost will be approximately $2,000, and our treasury
has enough deposited to cover the amount.
Committees:
Boutique - Nancy Quan reduced the price of the nylon jackets, which are now $10.
Car Shows -Warren Kline urged everyone to help celebrate the introduction of the 370Z at
Jotech in Garland on December 2nd at 2 p.m. Bill Hayden is organizing the Autorama display that will be held February 13th-15th. Setup is February 12th. Please check the website
for a listing of car shows.
Christmas Party - Pam and Steve Ruzic offered tickets for sale for $5 for the party on
Saturday, December 6th. The Newtons have kindly opened their home for the event.
Italian food will be catered. Please bring new, unwrapped toys for Ronald McDonald House
and a “white elephant” gift for the gift exchange.
Community Service - Katy Taylor has reserved Sunday, December 7th, from 11:30 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. as our time slot for the Ronald McDonald Trains at North Park. January 25th is
designated as our time to cook lunch for the residents of Ronald McDonald House.
Membership - “Mad” Mike Taylor reported on his trips to Japan & the L.A. Auto Show.
Mr. K is finally in the Japan Hall of Fame, now that he is 99 years young. Mike also toured
the Datsun Heritage Museum in Murietta, CA., with Fred and Betty Jordan.
Motor Sports - Renee Hayden has listed dates for MotorSport Ranch and other events.
Check the website for details.

Texas Tours - Katy Taylor has arranged for our first tour of the new year to Clark’s BBQ in
Tioga on January 18th. The drive is always a lot of fun and the food is great.
Website - Lois is continuing her good work on the website.
$36.00
$41.00
$25.00
50/50 - Mike Quan is the new Bob Bosse, and will take over the 50/50 duties. He gathered
$83.00, of which $42 was donated to our treasury. Charles Fisher was the lucky recipient
of $41. Mike Taylor contributed some very nice bags he received at the L.A. Auto Show for
door prizes.
For the good of the club - Kay Newton presented Mike and Nancy Quan with the “Ketchup
Award.” They were always in the rearview mirror on the caravan to Cleveland, trying to
“catch up” to the rest of the cars in traffic. Mike Brunner invited us all to attend the Cowtown Christmas party on Dec. 13th. Warren Kline explained why Clear Bra worked so well
on his new GT-R. David Chaney from the Cowtown Club let us know that a friend of his is
selling a Z31.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.

Board Meeting Minutes
Follow the Nissan Z Event — Jotech Motorsports, Garland, TX
December 2, 2008
by Jonathan Maddox
The 1-10-2009 Board Meeting of the Z Club of Texas was called to order at 5:05pm at Spring
Creek Barbecue in Lewisville, TX, by President, Renee Hayden. Renee introduced the officers:
Vice President, Glen Newton; Treasurer, Kay Newton; and Secretary, Jonathan Maddox.
2009 Committees
Boutique – Mike Quan (speaking on behalf of Nancy Quan) indicated that the boutique is currently out of hats and short sleeve t-shirts. He proposed that the club purchase new hats with an
updated design. He suggested that a new club t-shirt be designed which incorporates the new
370Z, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Z, to be unveiled in the fall. The board discussed a
variety of potential methods to produce the new shirts in a cost-effective way. The board also
discussed ways to order new merchandise so as not to have large amounts of overstock.
Car Shows – Warren Kline and Bill Hayden will co-chair the committee. The board discussed
vendor options for purchasing a carpet for the club’s car show display. The carpet will be purchased through Carpet Express due to their service and their offer to ship it cut in two rolls. Glen
Newton volunteered to have the carpet delivered to his workplace. Further cuts to the carpet will
be performed either by a local carpet vendor or by club members before Autorama.
Community Service – Katy Taylor has reserved a time slot with the Ronald McDonald House in
Dallas, TX for 1-25-2009. Volunteers with the club will be cooking lunch for residents. Arrival
time is 11am, departure approximately 1:30pm.
Membership – The board discussed ways to increase awareness through more effective advertising to attract new members. The club will pursue distribution of generic ZCoT business cards
for display at the parts counters of the various Metroplex Nissan dealerships, with the business cards being designed by Dave Olson. There was also discussion of potentially organizing
car shows at the dealerships, which would coincide with the arrival of the new 2009 370Z on
dealer lots.
Website – Additions to the club website were discussed. Paypal will be set up on the website for
new memberships and renewals.
Christmas Party – Pam and Steve Ruzic volunteered to chair the committee.
Member Profiles – Bill Amdall volunteered to work on these, with a goal of one member profile
per month.
Motorsports – Renee gauged club interest in setting up an event with Texas World Speedway in
College Station, TX. This idea was rejected due to distance, hotel costs, etc. The next upcoming
club event is the Driver’s Education event at Texas MotorSport Ranch (March).
Texas Tours – January’s event will be lunch at Clark’s BBQ in Tioga, TX on 1-18-2009. There will
be no February event due to Autorama. Renee asked that the “Cat House” tour (International
Exotic Feline Sanctuary) be scheduled for April.
Treasurer’s Report: Kay Newton went over the club’s financial numbers for 2008. The numbers
were similar to those from 2007. A summary may be published to distribute to club members.
Noteworthy: GT-R owners will be allowed to have associate club memberships; full memberships if they also own Z-cars. The Tech Sessions committee will remain vacant at this time.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:15pm.
