Council Movie
Nights
A lot of activity has taken place in the Village Hall
recently with new lighting for the stage, a new
large screen, projector and speakers have also
been installed which will be used in conjunction
with the monthly Film Nights.
The Film Nights have been very well supported and
there is a regular audience between 40 – 50
people. A mini bus service is available for those
who need help getting to and from the Hall.
Future of Bransgore newsletter
A number of people have responded to the Questionnaire about the future of
the Newsletter and most responses felt the Newsletter should continue in its
present form. If anyone is willing to help distribute the Newsletter this would be
appreciated. It is currently published three times a year.
The Clean for the Queen’s 90th Birthday event was well supported and my
thanks go especially to the local Women’s Institutes for their help and support
and to other Groups and Individuals who also joined in.
Wishing you all a Happy Easter!

Bransgore Community
First Responders
www.bransgorecommunityresponders.org.uk
We attended the launch of the new public access defibrillator in Burton (Dorset). As well as occasionally
donating a defibrillator to parts of the community, our group offer advice and guidance to any organisation
or association who wish to go about purchasing and/or installing a defib, whatever county they are in.
Defibrillators Save Lives!
We were also involved in a county-wide press appeal by South Central
Ambulance Service (SCAS) for more volunteers to step forward and
support their communities. Terry Kane, SCAS Community Liaison and
Training Officer for Hampshire, said: “Community First Responders (CFRs)
are extremely important. Because each CFR lives or works in their ‘patch’,
they can often reach a patient minutes earlier than an emergency
ambulance. They have the skills and equipment to immediately begin
assessing and treating the patient before the paramedics arrive and those
few minutes can make all the difference between life and death.
Becoming a CFR gives you the chance to make a huge difference to someone needing vital help who could
even be a relative, neighbour or friend. As well as using our local knowledge, for example to help
paramedics locate cyclists who’ve crashed on minor roads or being the first to get to people who’ve
fallen or become ill on the many cycle and footpaths in the New Forest, we have also been focused on
getting more public access defibrillators installed across our local communities. Community First
Responders come from all walks of life. If you are interested in joining as a volunteer you will need to be
over the age of 18, physically fit and healthy, able to carry out effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
for up to 20 minutes (after training) and be a car owner with a full UK driving licence. Volunteers must be
able to commit to be on call for a minimum of 20 hours each month, which can be arranged
flexibly around existing work, family or other commitments.
Do you have what it takes to become a Community First Responder?

Clean for the
Queen
Members of Bransgore
Evening WI taking part in
the ‘Clean for the Queen’
campaign on Saturday,
March 5th
Bransgore Evening Women’s Institute
Following the success of our Centenary Year in 2015, this year will bring us
new challenges to make the WI the best it can be. As inspiring women
working together, the next 100 years will continue to show that we can
offer all kinds of opportunities for all kinds of women across England and
Wales. Our own branch has welcomed many new members in the last few
months. The original image of ‘Jam and Jerusalem’ has moved forward
considerably! Not only do we value the traditional concepts of crafts,
baking, education etc, we also play a respectable game of skittles or will
challenge you to a game of darts!
Since the WI was formed in 1915, we’ve taken action on a wide range of
topics that matter to women and their communities. In our January
meeting, members discussed a shortlist of 8 Resolutions to be considered by
all WI members. Our group selected ‘’Appropriate area for the
hospitalisation of dementia patients” as their choice of resolution. This will
be put forward via the NFWI for Final Voting at the Annual Meeting in June.
Successful Resolutions become mandates that form the basis of campaign
and educational activities.
In March, members look forward to the HCFWI Spring Council Meeting in
Portsmouth. Speakers are Mandy Hickson, recounting her life as the only
female front line Tornado RAF Pilot in hostile situations in Iraq; and Lucy
Worsley, well known for her TV appearances on the Royal Palaces, their
history and treasures.
Clean for the Queen is a
campaign to clear up
Britain in time for her
Majesty the Queen’s 90th
birthday, which will be
officially celebrated in June
2016.
The British WI also initiated
the ‘Keep Britain Tidy’
anti-litter campaign at a
Conference in 1954 after a
Resolution was passed at
it’s AGM.
Bransgore Evening WI
meets on the second
Tuesday of every month
at Bransgore Village Hall.
The meeting starts at
7 o’clock and closes at
9.30.
Visitors are welcome.

Jennifer Dixon-Clegg, director of the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy at

insight into the opportunities for students who are given the chance to
gains skills and knowledge to lead an independent and fulfilled life,
learning through horses what was previously unachievable.

Jack and Jill Pre-school is a community based, committee-run group, which celebrated its 40th birthday last
year. This Ofsted-registered group caters for children aged from 2 years 9 months up to school entry age.
Children are offered a safe, secure and stimulating environment with a full curriculum leading to the Early
Learning goals.
Thank You
We would like to say a huge thank you to Kevin Carter for donating his time to be the Jack & Jill Santa for the
Christmas Fayre and for offering to call the Bingo numbers at our upcoming Bingo night on March 11th.
Thank you also to Martin Ball, for the spring term Pre-School disco - the children (and adults) all had a
fabulous time. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.
We would like to give a special thank you to Mrs Nellie White for supplying the contents of the children’s
Easter baskets this year. Our recent Chocoholics event was also a success and we are looking forward to
enjoying our chocolate orders soon.
We would like to say thank you to all the businesses that support us with raffle prizes, and to the Parents,
Carers and Residents in the village who have donated. The money raised has enabled our children to attend
Avon Tyrrell’s Forest School project again this year – the children are having a wonderful time each week
exploring the forest, playing hide and seek and looking for Stick Man!
Fundraising & Upcoming Events
Our next Bags2School clothing collection is Friday 20th May. If anyone has any clothing they would like to
donate to the Pre-school, please bring along your donations anytime from 16th May.
If any villagers have any Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers, please feel free to pop them into our collection
boxes in the foyer if you are attending the Village Hall. These vouchers are invaluable to our efforts in
providing the children with the latest sports and cooking equipment.
We will be at the Bransgore May Day Fun Day this year, running the popular Dog Show. We would like to
thank K9 Training and Advisory Centre for sponsoring the event. We will also have a Jack & Jill stall at the
event with fun games.
On June 5th the Rotary Club will be holding a Fun Run for adults, and alongside this we will be co-ordinating a
fun run for children on the village green. Children can be sponsored for laps and have lots of fun collecting
stickers – look out for more details closer to the time.
On Saturday June 11th from 12pm-3pm please come and join us for the Queen’s birthday celebrations!
There will be food, a bouncy castle and traditional games. More information to follow on this exciting event.

Messy Church took part in the Church's Christmas Tree Festival depicting the carol "Angels from the Realms

favourable comments. Since Christmas we have had meetings based on Epiphany and Jesus the Good
Shepherd. Our March meeting will be about Palm Sunday. Children should be accompanied by an adult.

Crowe Hill Methodist Church. Our meetings in March are on 16th and 30th. In April 13th and 27th. We
finish the afternoon with tea and biscuits. Everyone is welcome.
On the 1st Saturday of every month Coffee mornings are held from 10am in the Church Hall.
We would welcome you to join us on a Sunday morning, or at any of the above events. See you soon.
Bransgore and Burley Parish Christmas Day Lunch
The first Christmas Day Lunch at Burley Village Hall was a great success
and was supported by both Bransgore and Burley Parish Councils. We
had around 37 people eat with us on the day and the fantastic support of
a number of volunteers, without who the day would not have run as
smoothly. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Co-op
Bransgore, The Wathen-Bartlett, Burley Good Neighbours and the
Burley Inn for their support.
The guests were treated to sherry on arrival and then a full Christmas Dinner with a glass of wine, followed
by Christmas Pudding and sherry trifle and each guest left with a present to take away.
I have already booked the Village Hall for next Christmas Day and look forward to having more people join
us then. Tracey

Townswomen's Guild
We ended our year with our Pre Christmas Federation Lunch with nine members attending, and our own
Guild Christmas meal when 20 members gathered at The Tyrell’s Ford Hotel and had a lovely evening.
Our visit to the RNLI at Poole was excellent where we had a tour of the College followed by a very nice lunch.
So far this year we are planning two celebrations, a coffee morning will be held on April 13th at Mt Stuart to
celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, and in August we will be holding a garden party at the same venue to
celebrate our 30th birthday.
We will once again be running our book and tombola stall at the Village Fun Day on Monday May 2nd.
Ladies who Lunch have met at The Station Tea Rooms and The Potting Shed – Redcliffe Garden Centre,
Bashley and our March lunch will be at The Burley Golf Club.
Our sub-groups of Badminton, Book Club, Knitting Group, Craft and Ladies who Lunch continue to flourish.
Talks this quarter have been about ‘Stewarts Gardenland’ with Martin Stewart and the History of

Bransgore Flower Club
As I sat down to write this my last report for Bransgore’s Newsletter I look back
over the last three years with a great deal of happiness. Our program has been full
of fun and interest. What a mixed bag January and February weather brought us,
rain, wind and frost, and more rain, all to stop us getting out in the garden. But up
came a whole array of flowers, which some thought were far too early, having
daffodils at Christmas was a first for me.
Our program has been as varied as the weather. At Christmas we ended the year with a stunning and
colourful demonstration given by Emily Gordon-Broomhead entitled “I’ll be home for Christmas,” this was
followed by Christmas tea. In January we welcomed Marion Catt back for her forth visit to Bransgore with a
demonstration entitled “Joys of Spring” and it was full of colour just what we needed on a cold January day.
February we held a workshop. Then March, time for our AGM and the start of our new membership, a good
time to welcome any new members. This was followed by a talk on New Zealand given by Rosemary
Legrand.

Youth News
The evenings are getting lighter and the cricket season will soon be upon us. The autumn nets were well attended
and we are already halfway through our spring net sessions at the Hurn Indoor Cricket Centre (5.00 p.m. to 7.00
p.m. on Tuesday evenings).
This summer we will be running a total of five youth sides at Under 9, Under 10, Under 13 and Under 15 plus a
girls’ side at Under 13. At Bransgore Cricket Club enjoyment in playing cricket is our main aim. Whatever your
child’s ability, they will be made most welcome. Our outdoor practice nights will continue to take place on
Monday nights and they will start when conditions allow in April. Please contact any coach or consult our website
for actual dates.
As stated in the November newsletter, the club has achieved ‘Club Mark’ accreditation which means you can be
confident that your child will be playing in a safe and friendly environment.
The club now has four ECB Level 2 Coaches and a number of ECB Level 1 Coaches and Coaching assistants. The
club will be pleased to arrange specialist training on request or to offer it when they think it would be of particular
benefit to a child. Please contact Dave Lay or a squad manager for details.
Thank you to all who help the club in any capacity. Your help and the funds raised are invaluable to the club.
If you would like your child to play or train with the club, please call Dave Lay on 673242 or

Adult news
The club approaches the summer with great anticipation and is running three Saturday sides in the Hampshire
Cricket League. The 1st XI will be playing in County Division 3 (South); the 2nd XI will be playing in Regional Division
1 (West) and the 3rd XI will continue to introduce the youth players to adult cricket in Regional Division 4 (South
West). All the sides have new captains and we hope for great things. The midweek side will play in Division 3 of the
Wimborne Evening League on Wednesday evenings.
The Sunday indoor side in the Hurn Indoor leagues has helped to keep things ‘ticking over’ before Spring Nets
started in February. They continue throughout March between 8.00 and 9.00 p.m. on Thursday evenings.

Albert Einstein once said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different
results.” This is true in all aspects of life – from continually trying the same diet, repeating New Year resolutions, and
sticking with the old adage, ‘We’ve always done it like this!’ Many of the things we do used to work and produce good
results, but so often life moves on and old practices become redundant. Although we may have great affection for the
‘old days’ there comes a time when we need to do things differently - to change our mind-set and embrace the ways
that might at first seem daunting, and less comfortable. I thank God for those people of the past who had the vision to
look forward and to experiment with new ways of doing things. Much of what we enjoy today has come from people
such as these, including those who have done wonders for health care in the last couple of centuries. Change for
change’s sake is probably not healthy but when there’s a need or a reason perhaps we should all embrace it. If you
develop the attitude that everything may change it will become easier to accept changes when they come.
For many years at BCC we’ve had small groups of people from the church meeting regularly in the evenings throughout
the week for friendship, support, encouragement, teaching, and to support one another spiritually, but since I’ve been
in Bransgore the numbers of those committed to such groups have dwindled. I have often asked myself the question
why. Is it because the groups are not healthy? Is it because people don’t see a need for this anymore? Are people less
committed to their faith than in years gone by? In my pondering the answer to all of these questions was ‘No’. So what’s
going on? I think the answer is multifaceted. Life has changed for families over recent years. Gone are the days when
the majority of people come home from work to enjoy a nice quiet evening with the family. The pressures of work has
intensified – longer working hours, more exhaustive demands, and often further distances to commute. When you add
to this the increase of activities for young people and children to get involved in and the increased financial pressure we
begin to understand why, for many people, evening groups are not so easy to sign up to as they once were. The other
change that we see around us now is that most things are more short-term. It’s easier to join a group with a known
commitment period, rather than one that is open ended.
Putting all these thoughts in the mix we’ve decided to trial a different way of running our groups. The first thing we
recognised is that our culture is organised around school terms, and it would make sense for us to do the same. Next we
decided that people are more likely to get involved in something that would specifically meet their needs at the stage of
life/maturity where they are currently at. So the things we will teach and discuss in the groups will be life related and
targeted. Following on from this we thought that we needed to run the groups for a specified time so that people could
organise their commitments, and finally we recognised that people’s work patterns have changed so we need to run
groups not just in the evenings but during the day and early mornings. Therefore from May to July we will be running
fourteen groups – ten evening ones, three during the day, and one early in the morning. These groups will last between
four and twelve weeks and should have something that will appeal to everyone irrespective of their Christian maturity.
One course we’ll be running is specifically for those who are not Christians but who would love to find out more. If
you’re interested please contact me as you’re welcome to join in. If this pilot scheme works well we’ll be considering
running similar groups each term.
I can report that our running of two services on a Sunday morning (9.30am and 11.15am) has becoming the new normal.
It has allowed more space to circulate in the hall, an extra option of when to come to church, it makes it easier to get to
know other people, and has created more space for people to come and visit us to see what we're up to. Remember –
come as you are (unless you’re perfect – then you’re not allowed in!)
Blessings, Phil

Bransgore Scout Group
Out and about – update from Mark Linney, chairman for Bransgore Scouts. Hello all- lots going on at
Bransgore Scouts – just wanted to mention a few for the newsletter …..Don’t forget to support us at the St.
George’s day parade on 24 April – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will all be in attendance to remake
their promise. Parade starts at 2pm at the Quomps, Christchurch.
Our new fire pit is really coming on – thanks to our small but trusty band of
helpers (particularly Laidlaw Landscapes) and the generous contributions from
the Rotary club who have all helped to make this happen. We need one more
session to get it finished so we can move on to building the new events area.
Finally, I thought you might be interested to know that all of our packs are now using the new “balanced
programme” – it’s taken a lot of hard work for the leaders to learn all the new skills needed. We think that
the new scheme make Scouts more relevant than ever to Bransgore’s young people. We’re proud to be part
of this ever green movement – now in its 100th year!
Cubs on ice
Cubs have had plenty of outings this year already – including a hugely entertaining visit to
the Ice Rink. Plenty more great events follow in March including a trip to Brownsea Island
and an Easter Star Wars sleepover party where cubs get to learn useful “force” skills…
We’ve been busy in our scout patrol – update from Scout leader, Mike Manley
Since Christmas, we have had 25 scouts and they have taken part in various activities including night
navigation, pioneering, domestic skills, creative cooking and even a creative challenge - making a tea pot
stand! We’ve had a team of four taking part in the district cooking competition – they took first place
there and went on to the County rounds where they made third place – congratulations to those who
took part. We will finish the term with tent erection plus teaching Scouts how to work safely with axes,
knives and saws. Date for your diary: 8 – 10 April, Scouts will be going to PGL on the Isle of Wight for an
exciting activities weekend (fingers crossed for the weather).
Scouting is more than child care
Bransgore Scouts are really lucky to have so many beavers, cubs and scouts. We have over 100 members
and as a result of the numbers, we could really do with some more of the community being involved perhaps as an occasional helper, maybe even a leader. Young or old we don’t mind – could you help
Bransgore scouts out? We could also do with someone to look after the committee paperwork – it’s a bit like
being a secretary but only needs a couple of hours a month. All necessary training provided of course –
please get in touch with Mark if you’d like to know more about helping Bransgore Scouts (any successful
applicate gets a *free* criminal records check).
For more information please contact Mark Linney on [email protected]

Bransgore Youth Football Club
www.bransgoreyouthfc.co.uk
At the time of writing, we are coming to the close of the 2015/16 season, with all of our 10 youth teams
having only a few games left. Unfortunately with the weather being so bad yet again, this year has been a bit
start/stop with many games being postponed. As with previous seasons we made the decision that we
would not let the weather stop us from training and for two and a half months, as our pitches were deemed
unplayable we found alternative wet weather locations for all of our teams.
We will be holding our annual football tournament on Bransgore Rec on Saturday the 25th and Sunday 26th
June. This has always proved to be a successful and enjoyable weekend which attracts over 100 teams from
near and far, (and recent years the weather kind to us too!!!!)
We have started to think of next season already. Our U14s
and U16s teams for next season are heading off to Belgium in
August for some pre-season friendlies. These tours have been
a great success in recent years, with some great team
bonding, socialising and of course a bit of football!!!
The club are at final stages of ordering new kit for next
season. All of our 10 teams will be sporting new home and
away kit, and with a bit of help from our sponsors some of our
teams will also have tracksuits and rain jackets to go with
them.
Bransgore Youth FC is a Chartered Standard club and it’s a
great time to be part of our club. Our player fees have just
been agreed for next season and will be at the very good
value price of £90 for the year (all inclusive). This represents
excellent value and makes us one of the cheapest if not the
cheapest clubs to join within the area.
U9s Football Tour at AFC Bournemouth
Our U9s recently enjoyed a day out at AFC
Bournemouth, where they were put
through their paces with a training
session by some of their coaches prior to
having a stadium tour of our new
Premiership team.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us too, whether it be assisting in the running one of our teams
or sitting on the committee, we would love to hear from you. We are currently looking for a Child Welfare
Officer and an U6 manager (to start a new team) for the start of next season.

My name is Liz and I am a fully qualified Body Control Pilates Teacher and hold classes at Bransgore Village
Hall. Pilates is beneficial to all ages over the age of 16, both male and female from beginners upwards.
Pilates targets the deep postural muscles, building strength from inside out, rebalancing the body and
bringing it into correct alignment. It helps improve posture as well as gaining strength and flexibility and
relieving unwanted tension. The classes are small and friendly with a maximum of 12 per class, daytime and
evenings available.

Bransgore Lunch Club
The Lunch Club continues to meet to meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at the Community Church
in Shackleton Square. It is a comfortable and welcoming venue for members to enjoy a 2-course meal, freshly
prepared by volunteers, followed by tea or coffee. Members come up to 3 times a week; this provides a chance
to meet others and have a chat over lunch.
Christmas seems a long time ago, but almost all the members attended the Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 9th
December, which was greatly enjoyed by everyone there. Members and volunteers were then treated to the
delightful singing of Christmas songs, by children from Bransgore Primary School.
There are currently some spaces for new members, so if you are interested, or know any older residents who
might like to join, do contact our chairman Pam Shipperley on 01425
673057
Again, I have to ask for more volunteers to help keep the Club running! If
you could spare just a couple of hours each month to help with the
preparation of lunches, it would be very much appreciated. Some
members are unable to get to the Community Church by themselves, and
rely on kind volunteers for lifts, so if anyone could do this, just once a
month, or even on an occasional basis, they would be most grateful.
Poised Pilates
www.poisedpilates.co.uk
Pilates is a unique and holistic method of exercise aiming to improve flexibility, posture, strength, control and
stamina throughout the entire body with prominence on quality not quantity through precision, yielding
strength from control of muscular movement through stability. Pilates can be enjoyed by everyone
regardless of age, gender or current fitness level. Pilates can act as an excellent part of rehabilitation and can
also be a great compliment to all other sports and exercise programmes.
Charlie has a wealth of teaching experience behind her and an enormous passion for Pilates; she aims to
create an environment where clients love to learn and share a lifelong love for Pilates.
"Charlie's experience and patience makes her an excellent Pilates teacher. She makes sure each exercise is

Bransgore Theatre Group
Although we’re called the Theatre Group, we don’t only see plays! In November, we enjoyed a concert of
Elgar and Tchaikovsky, played by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at their home at the Lighthouse,
Poole.
We ended the year traditionally with a trip to the pantomime at Salisbury Playhouse. A dishy prince, a
sweet voiced Cinderella, outrageous ugly sisters and a funky Fairy Godmother had no trouble getting the
audience into the Christmas spirit.
Back to Salisbury in January for a concert of a different sort. The Pasadena Roof Orchestra played 1920’s
swing with verve, plenty of humour, and even some tap dance thrown into the mix. It made for a joyous
evening to brighten up the winter. In February, the comedy thriller Deathtrap started, literally, with a bang
that made us jump in our seats, and kept us guessing to the end.
Our next trips (booking now closed) will be to the hilarious play Travels with my Aunt, and then to the
classic musical, Singing in the Rain. In June, we’ll be seeing The Mousetrap. Salisbury Theatre is bringing
back its sell-out production by popular demand, and we’ve scooped a brilliant deal on the ticket price. In
July we are repeating our summer day out to Chichester Festival theatre to see a matinee of Half a
Sixpence.
All trips are by coach, which picks up at various points in Bransgore. Although we have increased our
membership recently, we have limited spaces for new members who live in the village.

Bransgore Netball for All
We are a friendly community netball club that does not play in a league and there is no commitment, just
come along to one, or both, of our club nights and pay as you play.
Netball with us is a fun and relaxed way to learn how to play the game, or
to get back into it if you haven't played for a while. We play whatever the
weather and every 5 minutes we rotate playing positions so that everybody
has a chance to play their favourite position and to play against different
members. We play every Monday and Wednesday night from 7:30 to 8:30
outside, at Bransgore's Multi Use Games Area, behind the
village hall. The cost remains at £1.50 per session.
We usually have enough members at each session to make two teams.
If you would like to join us to play, help, umpire or just watch please contact Maggie for more
information on 07734 423 919 or email: [email protected]
Thorney Hill and Bransgore WI
After all the excitement of 2015, the Centenary Year of the WI, we looked forward to 2016 with renewed vigour. In
January, even though we had only just ended the Christmas and New Year festivities, our members were very keen
to buy Fairtrade foods from the Tradecraft representative who attended the meeting. We should all look out for
the Fairtrade symbol as it represents excellence.
At our February meeting we had Mike Dukes from The First Responders along with
Jackie one of the volunteers in attendance. Between them they gave information
about dealing with emergency procedures and CPR. Several of our members have
signed up to complete a course with Mike in a short while. Ironically one of our
members had occasion to call the emergency services just 10 days later, as her
husband was having a heart attack and Jackie was first on the scene and undoubtedly
saved his life. He is now at home recovering. We are so lucky to have these people in
our village along with several
defibrillator units.
On February 22nd we filled The Coffee House with 20 of our members who all enjoyed
a cream tea and a chat. The Coffee House is a great place to meet your friends for a
coffee or lunch and is manned by volunteers – so well done to all of them.

We are always happy to welcome new members no matter what age. We meet on the 1st Wednesday of each

Weird and Wonderful Christians
Craig was the sort of Christian who made it harder for everyone else to
want to identify themselves as Christians. Craig came across as just plain
weird – a sort of Christian stereotype. From his socks and sandals combo to
his collection of University Christian Union hoodies; from his always ready,
always happy about something smile to the strains of Shine Jesus Shine
blaring from his car stereo.
The story went around that last summer, on a work weekend of survival
skills teambuilding, Craig spent much of the first day fashioning a crude
guitar out of vines and branches: when they were unwinding at the
campfire at the end on an exhausting day, out came the guitar and, to
everyone’s horror, Craig started to sing Kum by yah, m’Lord. It was so
embarrassing. And Craig was the sort of Christian who tried to crowbar
something about Jesus into even the most mundane of conversations. ‘Is
that a Mars Bar you’re eating with your lunch? Named after the Roman god
of war, no doubt? You know the Bible says that Jesus Christ is the prince of
peace? Have you accepted him as your prince yet?’ Or… ‘It’s interesting that
you chose to get on a red bus today. Red really reminds me of the blood of
our Lord Jesus Christ shed on the cross to pay for your sins. Why not hop
aboard his bright red bus of forgiveness today: the number 1 bus, going all
the way to heaven? Have you got your ticket yet?’ Craig was well-meaning,
but just weird. Perhaps that’s how you see most Christians.
Over the last few months at the Parish Church, we’ve been studying and
reflecting on the Old Testament book of Ezra in the Bible. Its great
challenge to us has been the need to stand out and live lives of blessing and
encouragement amongst our local community: to be weird – in a good way.
Perhaps we’ve not always been very good at that. The message of Jesus
Christ is of weirdly surprising love, surprising kindness, surprising mercy and
surprising justice. Because of that, Christians should be surprising in their
kindness too, not because they are kinder than everyone else (we’re not),
but because we’re convinced that God has been kind to us in Jesus Christ.
Yours, Ben The Revd Dr Ben Sargent, Vicar of Bransgore and
Thorney Hill
This summer we want you to join with us in
celebrating a Christian life of surprising goodness,
surprising forbearance and surprising faithfulness:
Her Majesty the Queen.
We’re planning a weekend of musical and delicious
events over the Queen’s official birthday on the
11th and 12th of June. We really hope you’ll come
and join in with this wonderful occasion!

Heartstart BransgoreNew Forest Team
www.bransgorecommunityresponders.org.uk/heartstart.asp
We had to cancel our last Heartstart Course, due to be held at Thorney Hill Community Centre, as a number
of those invited did not confirm they would be attending. Our Heartstart courses usually run with no more
than 12 persons so we need to know that people will be there so as to make it worthwhile for everyone. If
you have asked to attend and been given a date, please do confirm you will be there. Many thanks and
apologies to those who had confirmed, but whose course had to be cancelled.
We don't just offer the Heartstart course. Along with our colleagues from Bransgore Community First
Responders, we are actively promoting and assisting in the provision of defibrillators in public places. Burton
is the most recent to get one. We have attended a number of associations and organisations meetings and
shown them the defibrillator, and a short video, let them hear the defibrillator and what it says when used,
and see how easy it is to use. No training is required to use it in an emergency. With a demonstration of
Hands Only CPR to finish up, we hope to leave people confident that if the need arose, they would be able
to use the defibrillator.
If you ever doubted the value of a defibrillator, or felt you would not know what to do, then please take 5
minutes to watch the Resuscitation Council's film at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwjeFkB7eaI
Let's get more people aware that Defibs Save Lives and you need no special training to use one.! Wouldn't it
be nice if CPR was taught to all children at school as a basic life skill..
Do visit our Facebook page - Search for Facebook and Heartstart Bransgore New Forest. Why not commit to
learning CPR on one of our FREE two and a half hour courses. Just call our number below to get a place.
Heartstart Bransgore – New Forest is affiliated to Heartstart UK, an initiative of the British Heart Foundation
to teach members of the public what to do in life threatening emergencies. Simple Skills that Save Lives!

Bransgore Village Hall
Table Tennis Club
Why not spring into action on a Tuesday evening or a Thursday morning in the village hall with your local
table tennis club?
We offer two table tennis sessions a week: on Thursday mornings in the Village Hall from 10am to mid-day
and on Tuesday evenings (except for the second Tuesday of each month) from 7pm to 8.30pm. A session
costs £3 and bats are available. We offer friendly competition, both singles and doubles. Table tennis is good
fun and good exercise, and you don’t need to be either very skilful or very fit to enjoy the sport! Come along
and give the club a try. No special clothes are required though please wear non-marking
trainers or sports shoes.
The club had a good year in 2015 with 27 members. Our AGM on February 26th 2016 was well-attended and
our finances are in good shape. We thank Suzanne Pickstone for doing a great job as treasurer last year and
we welcome Roger Brown as the new treasurer. David Brown and David Pickstone will continue to look after
the Tuesday and Thursday sessions respectively.
If you fancy giving table tennis a try, just turn up and join us, or phone or email for more information. We
thank our continuing membership for their enthusiasm and support. Wishing you an enjoyable spring,

Slimming World
No-one wants to be on a diet for their whole life – how depressing would that be! That’s why I ask members
at my Slimming World groups to Food Optimise – learn how to eat a healthy balanced diet and a lifelong
approach to losing weight. Around 80% of the food that you eat each day is chosen from a list of unlimited
hunger-busting filling ‘Free’ foods – so you can really satisfy your appetite – and you don’t ever have to be
hungry. One well-known diet myth is that we have to reduce our portion sizes if we want to lose weight –
but that’s simply not true when you Food Optimise – it’s what’s on the plate that really matters.
Traditional English breakfasts, Spaghetti Bolognese, even curries can be
made in a way that makes them Free Food when you Food Optimise. And
that’s not all. In addition to unlimited Free Food, you can also choose a
measured amount of other foods – such as cheese, alcohol or sweet treats
– every single day. And you’ll lose weight. Yes you really will.
Members in my Bransgore group have lost over 160 stone since November 2014.
They’ve lost it by coming to group, learning to Food Optimise and being supported
not only by me, but by other members of the group in IMAGE therapy. Having the
chance, not only to share ideas, recipes, strategies for success, and support, but to
talk through any challenges they are facing, is what makes a Slimming World group
a really friendly supportive place to be. And it works.
If you’d love to learn how to Food Optimise and lose weight with Slimming World, please give me a call on
07875 604850 or just pop along to Bransgore Community Church, Shackleton Square Wednesdays at 7pm or
Ringwood Junior School in Hightown Road on Tuesdays at 5.30pm or 7.30pm. Rachel

Community Care in
Bransgore
We have been running dance classes for children in
the Bransgore area for over 25 years and, during that
time, many children have benefited from the joy of
dance, appearing in shows, including the
Bournemouth pantomime, and the 100% pass rate in
ISTD exams.
The school is run by Julie Headford, who is also an
ISTD examiner, and Ema Walthall, both fully qualified
and experienced teachers. We take children from 3
years of age and run classes in Bransgore and Sopley
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Our Group try and care for the elderly
in our village.
We are a group of like-minded people who have
meetings every 2-3 months – we are structured
like any other : President; Chairman; Secretary &
Treasurer plus (of course) a committee. 90% of
what we do is transportation of elderly and
infirmed to hospital appointments; audio and
optician appointments and visits to village
facilities.
There is a small cost to cover the driver’s
expenses including parking. We also do sitting
with housebound people so that their carers can
have a short break – bearing in mind that we
have no medical training.
If you would like to arrange a FREE TRIAL CLASS
contact us on 01202 291497 or visit our website
www.stagedoordance.co.uk
We are also very much involved in the
organisation of the mini-bus used to take people
to the once a month film nights being run in the
village hall, this is proving to be quite popular.
The group has been running since 1975 when it
was started by Dr Gordon Hickish (who is still our
president). We hope the group will continue with
this work, but of course, will only be able to do so
as long as we have the volunteers to do so.

non-alcoholic drinks are available) to round off a very fun evening. We do make a modest charge per head but it is
cheaper than going to the pub!

out, why not consider a Croquet Evening at Bransgore CC? Just make contact and we will work out the details of
your visit. Contact details are below and on our website.
Annual General Meeting. Last week we held our AGM at which we featured the growing strength of our club in
increased net membership numbers, continuing improvement to our lawns and the announcement that we are to
put two teams to play in the Southern Croquet Federation handicap league. We have also
added a new level to our domestic competition; the Consolation Plate. All this shows we are a really healthy and
vigorous croquet club. Also we announced plans to put on classes and coaching for all aspects of the game.
If you would like to come and try out our improved lawns this season, we play Monday to Thursday 10am to
1pm and 2pm to 5pm. If you would like more details about the club or games, you can see and read much more on
our website www.bransgorecroquetclub.org, or you can email me: [email protected] or
telephone me on 01425 672340.
No special equipment or clothing is required. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes with flat soles (so as not
to damage the grass). Bear in mind you will be on your feet and in the open for about three hours so dress casually
but with an eye to the prevailing weather conditions; be they hot, cold or occasionally wet!
Contact: Barry Dench Tel: 01425 672340 Email: [email protected]
At the end of the meeting a presentation was made to two very special ladies
who were founder members of the club and who were retiring from the
committee. Janet Williams (on the left) and Joan Harker and are pictured after
receiving a bouquet of flowers from Roger Price (Captain, back, left) and
Graham Williams (Club President). The club thanks Joan and Janet for all their
hard work down the years and wishes them many peaceful and enjoyable years
playing croquet at the club.

Bransgore Horticultural Society
2015 ended with a most enjoyable Christmas party, and we started 2016 on a high note with two extremely
interesting and well attended lectures, the first on the South Island of New Zealand followed in March by a very
informative talk on growing and showing fuchsias. The next few months promise to be very busy with a lecture
on the flora of the Scilly Isles on 7th April, followed by our Spring Show which will take place at the Village Hall on
Saturday 9th April commencing at 2 pm. The Show is open to members and non-members alike and there are
categories for Flowers, Floral Art, Cookery, Craft, Photography and Art. Why not put in an entry, or just come
along and take a look around.
Once again we will be holding our popular Plant Sale which will take place at the Village Hall on Friday 13th May,
6 – 8 pm, and Saturday 14th May, 9 – 10.30 am. Bedding and basket plants will be on sale at bargain prices and

A lot has been happening here at Stepping Stones. We are
pleased to announce that we are now a day nursery! From 8am
until 6pm for 50 weeks of the year. This is for ages 2-4 years at
present but we hope to add a baby unit in the future. We have
FLEXIBLE times to suit all. There are options for term time only
children and full time children and will also operate a holiday
club. If you wish to have a look around please do contact us on
the below numbers or have a look at our website
www.steppingstonesofsopley.co.uk.
This year we have renovated our upstairs room. This is a ‘quiet
room’ so that our children who will be starting school can have
some focus time away from the younger children. Come and
take a look! We have also applied for a grant so that we convert
the stage area in to a baby unit. We have an amazing outside
area, friendly supportive staff and a GOOD Ofsted report.
Please support us! We are a charity and run by a committee of
parents and staff. This year the committee are planning lots of
fund raising events.

Bransgore Twining Association
Bransgore Twinning Association is very much looking forward to hosting our French guests this May & have
some great trips and meals planned for the group. With this in mind, we recently organised a fund raising
social. On February 18th, the Scout Hut was the venue for a very interesting Wine Tasting Evening.
Graham from New Forest Wines in Ringwood came to entertain us and tell us all about some very nice
wines which he sells in his shop. We sampled white wines before our supper and the reds after the food.
The biscuits and cheese and pate rolls complimented the wine very well indeed; a good time was had by all
and we all know rather more about wine now. Thank you Graham, we had a great time.
As a group, we share very enjoyable socials together, ranging from a Christmas Soiree to wine tasting. Not
forgetting of course, the lovely weekends we spend with our French friends each May.
We still have space for new members so if anyone is interested just give me a ring on 672160 and I will be
happy to tell you more about the group.

News from
The NAOMI HOUSE make-over has been very well
received by returning children. The bedrooms are
larger, the wet-play area is also larger; the
hydro-therapy pool in JACKSPLACE is popular and
the space it used to occupy is well used. The
movement between the hospices is all under cover
which has made a considerable difference. This
necessitated removing the Dove Cote which was a
favourite of mine!
A NAOMI HOUSE mum who has two boys, one who
is a normal boy of 9 and a badly handicapped 7
year old, spend about 16 nights at the House and
can forget what special needs the 7 year old has to
have, as the nursing and caring staff take over. Her
heartfelt thanks to the nurses, carers, admin,
housekeeping, fundraising team for what they do
for families like theirs and for giving them an
opportunity to be a real family to sleep and play
with the 9 year old.
The two Hospices need £5 million per year to keep
going and your donations into the tins that both
the CARPENTERS ARMS and FISH & CHIP SHOP hold
on our behalf are extremely welcome. Thank you.

New Editor for Bransgore Newsletter
Hi, my name is Katherine, I am the new editor for the Bransgore
Newsletter. Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive
thank you to Dave Stoddart who has been invaluable in navigating the
publication through the past 10 years. He will remain a strong part of
the team and will help with the final proof read and last minute
changes. What a pleasure it is to work with such a wonderful man. So
thank you Dave for all of your hard work and dedicated commitment.
I am really excited about having the opportunity to work on a
newsletter that provides an easy way to keep up with everything in the
village. With contributions from village events and every type of club
along with insightful news pieces which keep us informed of upcoming
events and activities so you never miss out. It really is a testament to
what a thriving village we live in.
I hope you all continue to enjoy the Bransgore Newsletter for many
years to come. Bright Blessings, Katherine.
Reporting Community Issues
www.FixMyStreet.com
Bumpy ride this morning? View blocked by dumped rubbish? Potholes and fly
tipping are just two of the street faults that can be reported via the website,
along with vandalism, graffiti, dog fouling and many other common community
issues.
FixMyStreet comes from the UK not-for-profit organisation mySociety, and is one
of its longest-running and most-used services. It is just one of several projects
aimed at making it easier for citizens to get things changed in their own
community. So, next time you see something that needs fixing, be it a broken
paving slab or a flickering streetlight, all you need to remember is
FixMyStreet.com
When should I use 101?
You should call 101 to report crime and other concerns that do not require an
emergency response. For example, if:
•
•
•
Your car has been stolen
Your property has been damaged
You suspect drug use or dealing in your neighbourhood
Or to:
•
Give the police information about crime in your area
•
Speak to the police about a general enquiry
You should always call 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, someone
suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.

Bransgore Rotary Village Fun Day 2nd May 2016 - For well over twenty years Bransgore has held a Village Fun
Day on May Bank Holiday Monday and you will be pleased to know that this year is no different!
Do you remember this crazy chap from last year?
Or these rather handsome chaps?
2016 will see the coming of Spring celebrated with the Bransgore Rotary Fun Day on Monday 2nd May, a
date to remember so get it in your diary now. The afternoon is planned as a family event and we try to
provide something for everyone. The main arena events this year will be Joseph’s Amazing Racing Pigs and
Dingle Fingle’s Clowntown Crimewatch. Joseph’s Amazing Racing Pigs race down a track while they take
hurdles in their piggy style, between races the pigs are on display for children to view close up. Dingle
Fingle’s Clowntown Crimewatch present a fast and furious dynamic slapstick stunt show for all the family, all
combined with audience participation, definitely not to be missed!
Teenagers can tackle the climbing wall whilst the younger age group amongst us can sit back and enjoy the
Punch and Judy Show or a magic display. If this sounds all too much for some of us, don’t worry there will be
a number of less energetic displays and performances running throughout the afternoon, Balloon Sculpture,
bouncy castles and children’s rides and lots more to suit all ages.
In addition there will be a large number of local stalls run by village organisations and charities including
plate smashing and bric-a- brac. Tea and coffee will be provided in the village hall by the local Scout group
and on the village green there will be a Barbeque, an ice cream stall and a licensed beer tent. Throughout
the afternoon live music will be provided on stage by Bransgore Community Church Band.
Bransgore Rotary run the Fun Day as a community event and all profits made go to support Charitable
Organisations and Charities supported by Rotary; let us know if you run a local group that needs a small
amount of financial assistance, we may be able to help. Please come along and support us on the day and
don’t forget to buy your Fun Day raffle tickets in the village centre on Saturday’s preceding the event. Finally,
the date to remember is May Bank Holiday Monday, 2 May 2016 when the event opens at 13.00. Managed
parking will be available on site with set aside disabled parking.
On the lead up to the event if you have any bric-a-brac you wish to donate please contact Martin Bowles on
01425 674086, or if you would like to arrange a pitch for a stall please contact Roberta Kendall on 01425
674346.
