The first México and
Thailand Tutoría exchange
Two Worlds Connected by the Same Practice
Zacatecas, México - June 2016 MÉXICO-TAILANDIA 2016
1
Introduction
This June 2016, for the first time, a delegation from Thailand, Khun Sukanda Kongkaew
and Khun Panthiwa Theechumpa came to México for the very first bi-lateral exchange
between México and Thailand. Along with these two teachers, we have brought the
pedagogical model of the Tutoría to more than 3000 people in two states in Thailand with the
purposes of learning from the teachers and students in México, and interchange ideas to
strengthen the work back in Thailand.
Zacatecas for me has always been the homecoming to the bastion and foundation of the
work of Tutoría in México. It was the coming together of two worlds for me when the Thai
team came to my home state of Zacatecas. After working now for three years in Thailand in la
relación tutora, it was was especially magical that we have reached the point where different
languages nor customs were not barriers but productive spaces of exchange.
In one of our meetings with Maestro Rito Longoria, Maestro Juan Manuel, and Maestra
Mireya in Región 4, Tlaltenango, it was clear that despite different speaking distinct
languages, we were deeply connected by this love for learning and the learning of how to
love another in the educational system of school. When we talked and shared stories of
change, shared stories of deep satisfaction in learning, stories of struggles, and stories of
dreams, we knew that we were in the same path to create a different kind of education in our
schools, and that a different education was in our hands.
First, I want to thank Professor Rito Longoria and Professor Gabriel de León Sanchez
for opening their schools to us in Tlaltenango and Villanueva. In particular, Professor Rito’s
incredible hospitality was essential to all the learning we experienced over the two days. He
helped to organize all our travel, visits, and meetings. I have known about Professor Rito’s
work in his school and community before and I have always been left fascinated with the
depth and level of learning demonstrated by his students and their families. Truly, the work

in Zacatecas with teachers such as Professor Rito has been a model to follow. All that I have
learned from Professor Rito and the students in Tlaltenango and in Zacatecas at large have
formed the very base by which we have began to work in Singapore and Thailand.
Second, I want to thank Maximiliano for his leadership and vision in organizing work
with the faculty and students in the Centro de Actualización del Magisterio de Zacatecas
(CAM). His initiative to design and develop both a conference and workshop was
outstanding and we were able to open doors for Tutoría to be a model of learning in
Mathematics and English in the CAM. Max also picked us up from the airport, drove us to
the schools, took incredible care of us, and our visit would not have been possible without
Max’s care and organization.
Last but not least, I’d like to thank the many educators, students, and ex-students that
have come back to school to help out or meet with us. I thank Maestro Álvaro de Aguilar for
helping me establish contacts with the various teachers, Maestro Juan Manuel, Maestra
Mireya Contreras for taking time to talk and meet with us, the academic authorities Maestro
Mario Castro Guzman y Maestro Miguel Angel Cases Magallanes, Maestra MarthaProfessor
Álvaro, Professor Patricia from CAM, Professor Pedro Pitones, ex-students Osvualdo, Fabian,
Cookie from Pedro Vélez and the entire community of Presa de Maravillas for bringing us
and contributing a delicious lunch on our last day.
The visit of four days was characterized by two things. First, visits to schools and
second, a conference with the Centro de Actualization del Magisterio de Zacatecas. Summary

VISIT TO ZACATECAS
JUNE 14-17, 2016
Focus of Visit: Learn from Tutoria classrooms and schools in Mexico
What I have learned as result of my visit:
•
Tutoría (or TR) classrooms can bring about deep learning when the students learn temas
by the help of their tutors. For example, tutors’ surprising questions lead to a lot more
thinking and researching.
•
The student’s demonstration of learning is such a very important element that it needs
showing/telling to the network of TR in Thailand and applying appropriately according
to the context of each classroom and school.
•
Setting up the TR team in order to meet and tutor one another regularly can be a KEY to
sustain and advance TR strengths. However, the TR team needs to be aware of the
importance of why they themselves should meet and work together regularly.

Accolades:
The dedication and commitment of the TR teacher team is very beneficial to us:
•
As a result of their TR pedagogy, the students’ sound questions during their
demonstrations of learning are obviously seen. In my opinion, these questions can help
students think reasonably and creatively.
•
The sharing and exchanging at the meeting at the Office of Teachers in Tlaltenango
really inspire us when we have known about their regular meeting on every
Wednesday. Their meeting purpose is to meet and tutor one another and to evaluate
success and what’s missing.
•
In addition, we have gained a lot of benefits by the team sharing on how they started TR
in their schools, how each school works and networks one another, how their Festival of
Learnings can grow the network, and especially what they have achieved from all of
these.
•
The sharing of how they evaluate their achievement based on the questions: what is the
aim of education? and what is the end goal that the school would like to see? is also
key. In other words, students learn, students understand what they read, students write
their own ideas, students can express/speak in the public, and students can reason.
Ideas for future visits:
•
Attending their Festival of Learning when the teachers, students, and parents are
invited to participate
•
KEY Tutoría teacher team from Thailand attend in the TR classrooms for at least two
days and attend general Tutoría teacher team meeting on Wednesday.
Any other comments:
•
A program to exchange students or teachers from Thailand to Mexico and Mexico to
Thailand for one or two semesters.

THE REPORT: TUTORIA TRIP IN MEXICO
FIFTYFOLD EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATOR (Part-time)
I am from the FiftyFold educational team. Our focus is to bring Tutorial
relationships to the schools to help students in order to create a process of self-learning
process and sustainability to the practice. Now in Thailand there are 3 schools that are
interested in this work.
1. Padoongrasdra School, Phitsanulok
2. Chiangrai Vidhayakhome School, Chiang Rai
3. Sahasartsuksa School, Chiang Rai
The teachers in three schools are interested to bring this process into their
classroom and apply it to their own context because that is the way that allows children
to learn by themselves. Not only just for the purposes of learning purposes but for their
lives as well. Sometimes the teachers who have taken the Tutoría process into the
classroom, they encounter problems and don’t know how to fix them or can’t see the way
clearly how to use in their classrooms.
In the past, the FiftyFold team would go to schools to update and evaluate the
work in schools, and find the solutions to solve the problems. However, we have felt that
MÉXICO-TAILANDIA 2016

we can help the teachers even more deeply but first we must have a clearer understanding
and vision of the work to be able to share with the teachers. And it was the best
opportunity for me to Mexico for training and learning for 4 days.
14-15 June, 2016 At The Telesecundaria NIÑOS HEROES,Tlaltenango
16 June, 2016 At Centro de Actualización del Magisterio de Zacatecas
17 June, 2016 At Presa de Maravillas, Villanueva
When I visited these 3 places I found the power of learning in the students through
the vision of teachers who wish to build a quality life for their students. And through the
process of building relationships between teachers and students, I have a 3-part
conclusion from our visit:
Part 1 : The teachers
- Committed to work hard to build children's learning.
- Dedicated for preparing the course.
- Learning all the time.
- Have the skills to use with the students and create the interesting question.
- Can build the good relationship between students and between communities
- Committed to create the new things.

Part 2 : The students
- Expertise in their interesting topic.
- Learning all the time.
- Have the good skills to tutor their friends.
- Dare to present what they have learned.
- Can build the good relationship between students and between communities
Part 3 : My job responsibility.
- To share my more understanding about the TR skills to the schools.
- Know the ways for helping teachers to work about TR in schools.
- Becoming a Person of learning.
