PREVIEW : LOSC - OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS
LOSC - Olympique Lyonnais Feature Preview
Olympique Lyonnais will be looking to continue their recent revival and make it four wins on the bounce in their quest for Champions
League qualification when they go to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy to face LOSC on Sunday evening.
Lyon have catapulted themselves into contention for a podium finish by finally rediscovering something like their best form in recent
weeks, following up 3-0 wins against Girondins de Bordeaux and Angers SCO by trouncing SM Caen 4-1 last time out. Samuel Umtiti,
Alexandre Lacazette, Maxwell Cornet and Corentin Tolisso all scored against the Normandy side as Bruno Génésio's side ended last
weekend in fifth place, just one point off the top three.
Having started February in the bottom half of the table, it is quite a turnaround in a short space of time and a fourth successive win
would represent their best run of form in more than a year. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas puts the improvement down to the job
done by Bruno Génésio since he replaced the sacked Hubert Fournier as coach during the winter break.
"We knew how good he was and that he had the club in his DNA," said Aulas after the Caen victory. "He knows the players well and
has that desire to give everything to get the club back to its rightful position. He is trying to change things. The results we have had
are not just down to the talent and desire of the players but also to everything that Bruno and his staff have communicated."
One of the key factors in OL's revival has been the form of Tolisso. The France under-21 international midfielder was outstanding
last season before enduring a difficult first half to the current campaign. However, he has scored five goals since the turn of the year
and also provided two assists against Caen, so the news that he is set for several weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury has
come as a major blow, especially given that Aulas said he was "convinced that it will be thanks to him that we will qualify for the
Champions League."
Lyon may find that Lille are not as accommodating opponents as Caen, Angers or Bordeaux have been before them, with the
northern side battling to pull themselves further clear of the relegation zone.
Frédéric Antonetti's men held runaway league leaders Paris Saint-Germain to a 0-0 draw at the Parc des Princes last weekend, a
result that summed up why Lille have the best defence in the division behind the capital club but also the worst attack apart from
bottom side ESTAC Troyes.
There has also been an improvement at Lille in the last two months under Antonetti, but they have still won only one of their last
eight Ligue 1 games and they ended last weekend four points clear of the relegation zone, still too close for comfort.
"If we had been told beforehand that we would get a draw against what is a very good team, we would have taken it right away,"
said LOSC captain Rio Mavuba after the Paris encounter. "Now we have to build on that against Lyon, because although we are now
five matches unbeaten we have not won enough games so we are not really climbing the table."
Lille can at least point to a strong home record that has seen them lose just one of their last 10 matches there in all competitions.
They also beat Lyon 2-1 in last season's corresponding fixture - after Tolisso had put the away side ahead - and Yassine Benzia is
hoping for a repeat outcome this time around as he prepares to face the club he left last summer.
"It is always strange when you come up against an old club and come up against players with whom you came through the youth
system," Benzia told Lille's website. "I have remained quite close to lads like Corentin Tolisso, Alex Lacazette, Nabil Fekir. Of course I
always keep an eye out for Lyon's results. It would give me pleasure to score against OL. Even although I did not especially get my
chance at Lyon, there is no rancour, no feeling of wanting revenge on my part. It is just football, and in any case I will have to come up
against OL on other occasions in the future."
Antonetti can welcome back leading scorer Sofiane Boufal after he missed the draw with PSG due to suspension. Mounir Obbadi
(rib), Eder (knee) and Marko Basa (hamstring) also sat out that game.

Week 27
LOSC - Olympique Lyonnais
LOSC - Olympique Lyonnais
- HISTORY: Lille have hosted Lyon on 41 previous occasions in the top flight. Lille have won 23, Lyon have won just seven and there
have been 11 draws.
- Lille have scored 65 goals in this fixture to 36 for Lyon.
- The last meeting of the clubs at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy ended in a 2-1 Lille win on February 28, 2015. Corentin Tolisso (2') put
Lyon ahead but Idrissa Gueye (56') equalised and Rony Lopes (60') got the winner for LOSC in front of 40,080 fans.
- Lyon have not won on any of their last seven visits to Lille in Ligue 1, drawing three and losing four since a 1-0 win in March 2008
when Brazilian striker Fred (32') scored the only goal of a game played at the Stade de France in front of 77,840 spectators. OL won
the last of their seven consecutive titles that season.
- Lyon have won just two of their last 14 away league meetings with Lille, the other victory coming in February 2007, when late goals
by Fred (83') and Sébastien Squillaci (89') handed them a 2-1 win after Johan Audel (52') had put Lille in front at the Stadium Lille
Métropole.
- Earlier this season the sides drew 0-0 in front of 32,137 fans at the Stade Municipal de Gerland on Saturday, September 12 (Week
5).
- Lille's biggest top-flight win at home to Lyon is a 4-0 success in May 2006 when Peter Odemwingie scored twice in between strikes
by Geoffrey Dernis and Jean II Makoun in front of 17,143 at the Stadium Lille Métropole. Lyon had already won the title heading into
that match on the penultimate weekend of the season. Lille finished that campaign in third place.
- Lyon's biggest win in Lille is a 4-1 success in September 1994.
- LOSC
- GENERAL: Lille came into Week 27 in 13th place in Ligue 1 with 31 points, having won six, drawn 13 and lost seven of their games
to date. They were four points clear of the relegation zone and three points behind SC Bastia in 12th coming into the weekend.
- Lille have drawn more games than any other side in the division. Only two clubs (Toulouse FC and ESTAC Troyes) have won fewer
matches.
- This time last season, Lille were 12th with 32 points, four points clear of the relegation zone. They are enduring their worst campaign
since 2002-03, when they were 14th at the same stage with 31 points.
- Lille have spent the whole campaign so far in the bottom half and have even spent three weeks in the relegation zone.
- Last weekend Lille drew 0-0 away to leaders Paris Saint-Germain in front of 45,391 at the Parc des Princes.
- The Lille line-up against PSG (4-3-3): Enyeama; Corchia (Pavard, 75'), Civelli, Soumaoro, Sidibé; Mavuba (c), Amadou, Balmont
(Amalfitano, 71'); Tallo, Benzia (Martin, 70'), Bauthéac.
- Vincent Enyeama's next appearance will be his 100th in Ligue 1.
- Rio Mavuba's next appearance will be his 399th in Ligue 1.
- Lille are unbeaten in their last four Ligue 1 games and have gone five games without losing in all competitions.
- They have won just one of their last eight matches in Ligue 1.
- Since Frédéric Antonetti replaced the sacked Hervé Renard in late November, LOSC have won four, drawn five and lost three of 12
Ligue 1 games.
- Lille were 17th when Antonetti took over, with just two wins in 14 league outings. They would be eighth if the season started with his
appointment.
- LOSC have scored just 20 goals so far this season. Only bottom club Troyes (19) have scored fewer. They have failed to score at all
in 10 games, including last weekend and in six of their first eight matches. A 3-0 win at home to FC Lorient in Week 18 is the only
game in which they have scored more than twice.
- Sofiane Boufal is Lille's leading scorer in Ligue 1 with six goals, followed by Yassine Benzia with five and Djibril Sidibé with three. In

all competitions, Boufal has seven while Benzia has six.
- Sofiane Boufal has provided three assists while Djibril Sidibé and Lenny Nangis have each laid on two goals.
- LOSC have conceded only 20 goals this season. Only league leaders Paris Saint-Germain (12) have let in fewer. They have 10 nine
clean sheets, including last weekend, while last month's 3-1 home loss to ESTAC Troyes is the only time this season they have let in
three goals in a league match.
- No Lille player has started every Ligue 1 game this season, although Djibril Sidibé and Rio Mavuba (both 24 starts/1 substitute
appearance) have appeared in 25 matches. Renato Civelli has also started 24 times.
- Vincent Enyeama was the only Lille player to start every game last season in Ligue 1 and had made 82 consecutive starts since the
beginning of the 2013-14 campaign before missing the defeat at Reims in Week 8 through suspension.
- Lille have picked up five red cards this season: Vincent Enyeama (v Stade Rennais FC, Wk 6); Stoppila Sunzu (v EA Guingamp, Wk
10); Sofiane Boufal (v SC Bastia, Wk 13 and v Stade Rennais FC, Wk 25); Renato Civelli (v Angers SCO, Wk 15).
- Éric Bauthéac has delivered 147 crosses in Ligue 1 this season. Only four players in the whole division have put in more. LOSC's
total tally of 587 crosses is the eighth-highest in the division.
- HOME FORM: Lille came into the weekend with the 12th-best home record in the division, having collected 19 points from 13 games
at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
- LOSC have won five, drawn four and lost four of their home matches, scoring 13 goals and conceding 10.
- Lille's home wins this season have come against GFC Ajaccio (1-0, Wk 4), Montpellier Hérault SC (2-0, Wk 9), AS Saint-Etienne
(1-0, Wk 16), FC Lorient (3-0, Wk 18) and SM Caen (1-0, Wk 24).
- They have lost at home against Paris Saint-Germain (0-1, Wk 1), FC Nantes (0-1, Wk 7), Olympique de Marseille (1-2, Wk 11) and
ESTAC Troyes (1-3, Wk 22).
- Les Dogues have lost just one of their last 10 home games in all competitions.
- Lille had the sixth-best home record in Ligue 1 last season, winning 11, drawing five and losing three of their games in front of their
own fans, collecting 38 points. EA Guingamp (2-1, Wk 10), AS Monaco (1-0, Wk 22) and Olympique de Marseille (4-0, Wk 37) were
the only visiting sides to win at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
- The average attendance at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy this season is 30,006, the fourth-highest in Ligue 1 but down on last season's
average of 36,547. A high of 39,601 saw the opening-day loss to Paris while only 26,431 witnessed the defeat to Troyes.
- COUPE DE FRANCE: Lille were sent packing in the round of 32 away at fourth-tier amateurs Trélissac, losing 4-2 on penalties after
the tie ended 1-1 after extra time. They had previously beaten AC Amiens 1-0 away in the round of 64.
- It was the first time Lille had gone out to lower-league opposition since losing on penalties at SR Colmar in the round of 64 in
January 2010.
- COUPE DE LA LIGUE: Lille are through to the final for the first time and will face holders Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade de
France on April 23.
- They reached the final by beating ESTAC Troyes, Stade Lavallois and EA Guingamp and then destroying Girondins de Bordeaux
5-1 at home in the semi-finals.

- In seven league games since Bruno Génésio replaced Hubert Fournier as coach, Lyon have won four, drawn one and lost two,
scoring 15 goals and conceding five.
- Lyon have scored 38 goals this season. Only leaders Paris Saint-Germain and OGC Nice had managed more coming into the

- Mathieu Valbuena and Renato Civelli played together at Marseille between 2006 and 2009.
LOSC
- Founded in 1944, Lille have won three Ligue 1 crowns (1946, '54, 2011) and finished runners-up five times (1948, '49, '50, '51 and
2005). They have won the Coupe de France six times (1946, '47, '48, '53, '55, 2011), and were beaten finalists twice (1945, '49).
- The 2010-11 season saw Lille break a host of club records as they swept to a Ligue1-Coupe de France double, bringing major
silverware to the northern French city for the first time in over half a century.
- Frédéric Antonetti was appointed coach on 22 November 2015 after Hervé Renard was relieved of his duties. Antonetti, who has a
contract through to the end of the 2016-17 season, has previously coached Ligue 1 outfits SC Bastia, AS Saint-Etienne, OGC Nice
and Stade Rennais FC, whom he left after a four-year spell in 2013. He guided ASSE to promotion from Ligue 2 in 2004, and has
taken three different teams to the Coupe de la Ligue final, latterly Rennes in 2013.
- Renard, the coach who led Zambia to a shock Africa Cup of Nations win in 2012 before leading Côte d'Ivoire to glory in the same
tournament in 2015, took over from René Girard in the summer of 2015. Renard, who coached Sochaux in season 2013-14 but
couldn't save them from the drop, is the only coach to have won the Cup of Nations with two different countries.
- Lille finished last season in eighth position on 56 points, seven behind sixth-placed Bordeaux, who qualified for Europe. They were
beaten 1-0 at home by Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de la Ligue semis but were eliminated 2-0 by Bastia in the Coupe de France

round of 64.
- Nolan Roux, who has since left the club for Saint-Etienne, top-scored for Lille last season with nine Ligue 1 goals.
- Season 2012-13 saw Lille unveil their new home ground. A host stadium for Euro 2016, it has a capacity of 50,186 and is the first
stadium in France to have a closing roof. Known as the Grand Stade Lille Métropole in its first season, it has been renamed the Stade
Pierre-Mauroy after the former French prime minister.
- To go along with their changing identity, Lille adopted a new club logo for 2012-13, one featuring a mastiff, the inspiration behind the
club's nickname Les Dogues.
Olympique Lyonnais
- Founded in August 1950, Lyon won three Coupes de France (1964, 1967, 1973) and a Coupe de la Ligue (2001) before winning a
record seven Ligue 1 titles 2002-08. They also won the Coupe de France in 2008. They won a fifth Coupe de France and the Trophée
des Champions in 2012.
- Les Gones finished second in 2014-15, their highest finish since 2010 and their best points tally since their last title win in 2008. As
runners-up they qualified for the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2011.
- Lyon were Champions League semi-finalists in 2010, losing to Bayern Munich.
- Alexandre Lacazette was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in Ligue 1 in 2014-15 topping the scoring chart with 27 goals, beating
the previous club record of 25, set by André Guy in 1969.
- Lyon began the season at the Stade Municipal de Gerland, but they inaugurated a new, privately funded, 58,512-capacity Grand
Stade in the Lyon suburb of Décines-Charpieu in January 2016. It will host matches at Euro 2016, including a semi-final.
- Bruno Génésio was appointed coach in December 2015 to replace the sacked Hubert Fournier, who left after a year and a half at
the helm. Génésio, 49, was promoted from his role as an assistant coach, which he had occupied for the previous nine years. A Lyon
native, he spent the bulk of his playing career at the club before moving to FC Martigues in 1995.
- President Jean-Michel Aulas took over the club in 1987 when Lyon were in the second tier.
- Notable former Lyon players include Bernard Lacombe, who also coached the club and now acts as special advisor to Aulas,
Raymond Domenech, Sonny Anderson, Juninho Pernambucano, Florent Malouda, Karim Benzema and Eric Abidal.
