Go behind the scenes of the
detective novel with celebrated
New Orleans mystery author Julie
Smith.
Julie Smith is editor of the
anthology, New Orleans Noir, and
the author of numerous detective
novels set in New Orleans.
Many of her books feature either

This spring, we invite the community
to read Dashiell Hammett’s classic
detective novel, The Maltese Falcon, first
published in 1930! Along with Sam
Spade, Hammett is credited with creating
the ultimate private investigator.
Events correlating with One Book One Community include a visit with
author Julie Smith, a discussion on the detective novel with Dr. Carl Freedman
of LSU, film screenings of the classic movie starring Humphrey Bogart and other
noir classics, public book discussions, and programs featuring gems, raptors and
even a game of live Clue!
Check The Source and our web site, www.ebrpl.com, each month this spring
for event details and times.

Locate
Lost
History!
Time capsules have been
used for many years, especially in
connection with significant events
such as new buildings or major
anniversaries of important events
to document a moment in time.
Unfortunately, sometimes these
capsules’ locations become LOST
in time.
The Library is asking anyone
with information about time
capsules created and buried in
East Baton Rouge Parish to contact
Archivist Melissa Eastin at (225) 3894960 or e-mail [email protected].

Storytime
at the
library
Storytime gives children an
excellent introduction to books and the
library, increases their attention spans,
and develops their social skills by
involving them in stories, poetry, and
songs. The Children’s Services staff
hopes Storytime will be an enjoyable
experience for each child, leading to
a lifelong love of books and reading.
You are always welcome to attend
Storytime with your child. We offer
seven different Storytime formats.
Since children develop at different
rates, you may talk with one of our
library staff members to place your
child in a younger or older group.
For more information, call your
local library. Organized groups must
reserve a date and time other than
those listed below.
