Keeping waste water fresh with oxygen
Prevention of odour nuisance and corrosion processes in sewerage systems
Keeping waste water fresh
with oxygen
The underground sewerage system may be hidden from view, but we
are often reminded of its presence by the unpleasant smell of rotten
eggs. This odour nuisance stems from septic processes in the waste
water. Due to a lack of oxygen (O2) hydrogen sulphide is formed, which
not only smells bad but also may achieve toxic levels and exerts a strong
corrosive effect. This corrosion compromises the sewerage system and
the receiving waste water treatment plant.
Especially in long, pressurised sewers the extent of sulphide formation
is significant. The waste water in these sewers is not contacted with
ambient air and therefore unable to absorb additional oxygen.
Pure oxygen and the Oxiduct process from Messer offer a natural solution for this situation. Easy to handle, low-maintenance and economical,
it is superior to any other process. With pure oxygen and the Oxiduct
process odours and corrosion cannot occur.
