rticle IV and the Nominations and Elections Procedure
state that the resumes of the candidates seeking election to the Board be published in the October issue of the
Gazette. Accordingly, the resumes of the two candidates
for the two openings this year are published herewith.
Inasmuch as there are only two candidates for the two
openings, there will be no paper ballot election in November this year. Instead, the Corporate Secretary will cast one
vote for each candidate. They will be declared the directors
for three year terms and will be sworn in at the December
General Meeting and will take office on January 1, 2017.

It is my objective to be re-elected to the Board of Directors in order to continue to serve our community. I will
use my life experience in order to continue to negotiate
contracts for all work being performed in our community
in order to help keep us fiscally sound. I will do everything
in my power to keep our assessments from being increased.
I am serving as the Liaison to the Maintance Department,
Wood Shop, and Bingo.
I am proud to list the following accomplishments
that I along with the other members of the Board have
accomplished:
• The installation of the Solar System
• Updating the Pool furniture all new tables and umbrellas
• The Restoration of our Clubhouse Hall
• The Lighting in our Library
• The upholstering of our furniture and new rug in our
Library
• The installation of Cameras
There are many other projects in the works that I would
like to help complete with the promise to keep our community financially sound.
Prior to moving to Carefree I resided in Belleville, NJ.
I was born and raised in Linden, NJ. I received my education in the Linden schools and graduated from Linden
High School. I then went on to attend the IBM School,
and graduated in 1964. I was employed by RCA in the
Computer Department.
In 1968 I decided to enlisted in the United States
Navy and served on the USS Perry DD844. After serving
my country, I attended the Plumbers Vocational School. I
worked in this field for 40 years, and was the Supervisor
on many construction projects before retiring in 2005.
I am a member of the Men’s Club, and an original
volunteer for the Poolside Café. I am very active in our
community’s activities and always willing to help when
and where I am needed.
I was a Member of the Masons Corner Stone Lodge
#229 in Linden, New Jersey.
I am married to my wonderful wife Linda and together
we have 4 married children who have given us the greatest gift of 11 beautiful grandchildren, who keep us happy
and active.

Over the past five and one-half years, I have been fortunate to serve as the President of the Board of Directors of
Carefree. I am now seeking my fourth term on the Board.
In the past, I have also served as Secretary and have been
the liaison to various clubs and committees. It would be an
honor to serve the residents of Carefree again.
The Board I have been working with is very harmonious. We have been working well together and I hope we
can continue to do so. You can look around and see the
improvements of the past two years to our facilities and
all at no additional cost. Thanks to the efforts of the Board
and the Clubs, which have provided us the funds to do this.
I have been a resident of Carefree for fifteen years and
reside alone. In my past life, I have served two terms as a
Councilman and a term on the Board of Education. I was
a teacher and Director of Athletics for a total of 30 years
and have 40 credits past my Master’s Degree. I have had
experience in Budget and Finance and various other areas.
I hope to see your confidence in me by reelecting me
to the Board of Directors

“To say all I feel would empty my heart. Thank you
dear friends and neighbors for all your thoughtful,
caring acts. I will always remember.”
To all my friends here in Carefree, thank you from
the bottom of my heart for all your prayers, calls, cards
and well wishes concerning my recent unexpected health
issue. A special thank you to my very close friend, Cathy
Johnson, who took charge for me that day. Also, thanks to
Tom and Mary Gaughan too.
Doris Lawlor
To all the wonderful people in our community, thank
you for your cards, calls, visits and prayers while I underwent emergency surgery.
I also want to thank the Gazette Staff who worked diligently to put together the September issue of the Gazette.
You all are amazing and I deeply appreciate the work you
all do.

he next meeting will be on October 20 at 7 pm. Our
guest speaker will be Dana Lancellott talking about
things to see and do in Ocean County. On Wednesday,
October 12 we will be going to NY’s Broadway to see either
Kinky Boots or Something Rotten with lunch at Carmine’s.
We are also working on having a Christmas 50/50. As
in the past there will be only 100 tickets sold at $ 20 each
with three cash prizes. The drawing will be in December.
This will be a nice Christmas present for the winners.
We are making plans to return to the Bristol Riverside
Theater in the Spring of 2017 with lunch at the King George
Inn. We made this trip earlier this year and it was a great
day. Watch for our flyer in the upcoming Gazette.

t was so pleasant to see so many gathered for our first
Singles & Doubles Club meeting of the new “season”.
We look forward to seeing you often in the future on the
first Thursday of the month.
The annual Beefsteak Dinner-Dance also was a success
owing to your enthusiastic response, thank you.
Our Thursday, October 6 meeting will feature a film of
a Christmas show enthusiastically performed by talented
Carefree residents from the past. That film is entertaining but lengthy enough to be concluded at our Thursday,
November 3 meeting. Many thanks to former resident, Ed
Verbecki.
On Wednesday, November 16, we will be offering a
bus trip to the Hunterdon Hills Christmas Show, always
a delightful one (and that fabulous meal)! Our poster is
displayed in the lobby containing the menu and details, as
well as in the Gazette. Please join us.
Our gratitude is extended to Marilyn Collichio who has
kindly offered to assume our Club’s secretarial position:
much appreciated.
We look forward to your valued presence at our
monthly meetings as well as at our special events.
Hope your autumn will be a healthy one and thank
you again.

of all maintenance and security for a larger AT&T building.
He is already doing jobs for Carefree residents. Welcome

to have us do any of the tasks we previously listed as within
our capabilities. DO NOT call the workers directly. Call
the telephone operators who will send the best worker

residents should know that these services are NOT entitlements. They are favors offered by volunteers who
may agree to do a task or decline to do any job at their
own discretion. We only service Carefree residents. Jobs

Aluminum Can Recycling
By Vincent Altamuro
e started our trial run of collecting, crushing and
selling aluminum cans to a recycler back in March.
It took us six months to fill up the receptacle, which we sold
for $ 72. This money was given to the First Aid Squad. We
thank all who donated cans and now have set a three month
goal to fill up and sell the contents of the next receptacle.
If you can’t get to the recycling center behind the First
Aid Squad building, call FreeCare and a volunteer will
come to you and pick them up.
We thank Bob White, manager of all recycling for
his support and John Staution, Sal Pollice and others for
their work.

Bocce & Shuffleboard 2016
by Jim Burns
e completed another bocce and shuffleboard season
in spite of the weather. Boy, was it hot. Let’s hope
this year was a rare one. We just completed our Championship Games and here are the results. In the Men’s League
the Braves with Lenny Diana, Joe Maloughney, Nitti Pitti,
and Rich Guido beat the Yankees with Howie Kuznetzow,

Champs. In the Women’s League the Nets with Clara Iavarone, Kathy Lardiere, Maureen Steele, and Terry LiCausi
beat the Bulls with Marge Dianna, Vanessa Moore, Peggy

In the Mixed League the Colts with Sal Cinquemani, Ron
Delaney, Marge Dianna, and Barbara Natale beat the Kings
with Bob Hall, Al Iavarone, Ann McElwee, and Marilyn
Collichio for the Wednesday Mixed Championship. In the
Friday Mixed League the Wings with Dom Castronova,
Karen Bracco, Doreen Norris, and Susan Pruzinskis beat
the Capitals with Al Ryer, John Pananiello, Marge DiMeglio, and Pat Harrigfeld to win the Friday Mixed League.
Next the two Mixed League Champs played for Mixed

Christmas Tree event, Sunday, December 4. Rehearsals
start on Sept. 30 from 1 to 3 pm (always Friday).
Do you enjoy singing? Singing has many benefits. It
is like an infusion of the perfect tranquilizer, the kind that
soothes the nerves and elevates your spirits. It releases
endorphins (a hormone) and oxytocins (another hormone).
Endorphins release feelings of pleasure and oxytocins enhance feelings of trust and bonding which in turn lessens
feelings of depression and loneliness.
Singing lowers stress and is also an aerobic activity.
Group singing feels like a guided meditation. Studies found
that it relives anxiety and contributes to quality of life.
SINGING CHANGES YOUR BRAIN! So why not give
it a try? No auditions required.

That’s the day Holly Twig will be holding their boutique sale at the hospital.
Community Medical Center will have the out- patient
lobby set up for us to hold a great sale. There will be plenty
of holiday items for you to decorate your home, as well as
an array of gift items. If you need a last minute gift item,
this is the place to come. There will be one of a kind gift
baskets, and many handmade afghans, hats, mittens and
delightful baby gifts.
This fundraiser will be held from 7 am to 4 pm. We
will be announcing the winner of the $500 Visa gift card
raffle at this event. The winner need not be present.
At our September meeting, we had a speaker, Dr. Patel, who told us about Alzheimer’s disease. He was very
informative.
If you can spare a few hours a month, why not join
us in our efforts to raise money for patient comfort items?
Stop in to clubhouse One of Holiday City at Berkeley on
the second Wednesday of any month. We are there at 9:30
am having coffee and cake. Our meeting starts at 10 am.
