Each Summer, Marygrove celebrates the remarkable
accomplishments of 12 residents who, in the past
year, have reached one or more milestones in their
treatment plan goals. Kemoll’s Top of the Met was
the elegant setting for this special event attended by
staff, therapists, and family members of the honorees.
St. Louis Blues Right Winger Cam Janssen was on
hand to help honor the kids. The Resident of the
Month Banquet is a joyous occasion for the kids and
encourages them to continue on a successful path.

IBM 16 Years of Caring
A note from Sr. Helen
We made it, back to school, despite
the fact that the weather still reminds
us it feels like summer! I want to tell
you a story about one person who
made a suggestion and helped us
find the resources for a special project. One day I was looking out the
back window at our patio. Weeds
were growing up through the brick
mortar. Every time I would go out
and pull a few, the mortar would
come up with the weeds. Finally
some bricks that were loose disappeared…perhaps our raccoon family
took them. Joan Stokes was at the
desk making a donation and saw the
back patio. The Eagle Scouts had
pulled up all the old bricks kindness
of Peter Mungenast who did it for
his Eagle Scout project. There was
just a cement pad left. I told Joan we
were going to try and redo the
bricks…or something else. She said:
“Why don’t you call the brick/
cement apprentice program in South
St. Louis?” You know me, worth a
try! And to make a long story short,
they came and are going to provide
the manpower to lay a new concrete
patio. Then Weber Construction is
giving the cement and Hotte
Concrete (at Joan’s suggestion) is
loaning 2 cement buggies for the
project. My reflection on this whole
thing is that many of you have
connections and ideas that would
benefit us. Just give a suggestion
and I will follow up. We will have
pictures of our new patio in the next
edition.

For the past 16 years, volunteers from IBM have converged on the Marygrove campus
to help spruce up the 43 acres. The group also made some much needed repairs to the
administration building, painted, fixed bikes, planted shrubs, weeded grounds and
decorated the cafeteria.
Special thanks to all IBM employees and to Joyce Blackwell, Marty Ivancic, and Barry
Buchek for their dedication and leadership in organizing the Day of Caring.
First National Bank employees mulch around 150
trees on the Marygrove campus.
A Hot, sizzling day at
Norwood Hills.
Thanks to all of our supporters!
Discover DePaul
Over the last few years SSM
DePaul Health Center has been
adding state-of-the-art technology, innovative new services,
and expert physicians and staff
to bring exceptional health care
to our community. What’s
more, we’ve been renovating,
expanding and revitalizing our
campus. And others are noticing. We have earned numerous
recognitions for our quality and
safety, including the prestigious
‘Premier Quality Award’ for
national excellence in health
care. We were even named a
‘Best Place to Work in St. Louis’
among giant companies.
Now we’re opening our doors
to the community for a fun and
educational event this fall. Join
us Saturday, October 16 from
9am – 1pm and ‘Discover
DePaul’! We’ll be offering
FREE health screenings and
behind the scenes tours of the
hospital. If you’re in need of a
new family physician, OBGYN
or a specialist, you’ll have a
chance to meet some of our
doctors at our physician expo.
Plus we’ll have Pattonville
EMS offering car seat safety
checks and child ID kits. Every
person who attends will receive
a FREE lunch and a tote bag,
plus someone will win a Wii
and Wii Fit.
The event is free but we ask
that you register ahead by calling 314-SSM-DOCS (314-7763627) or visit ssmdepaul.com
where you’ll find all of the
details.
