Evansville High School’s longstanding tradition of musical theatre
continues May 3-5 with it’s musical
production of L. Frank Baum’s beloved story, The Wizard of Oz. This
show is the 48th consecutive musical produced in Evansville. The first
production, Oklahoma premiered in
1966 under the direction of J. Peter
Shaw and Angela Wyse.
The Wizard of Oz is a story we all
grew up with. When a nasty neighbor tries to have her dog put to
sleep, Dorothy takes her dog Toto,
to run away. A cyclone appears and
carried her to the magical land of
Oz. Wishing to return, she begins to
travel to the Emerald City where a
great wizard lives. On her way she
meets a Scarecrow who needs a
brain, a Tin Man who wants a
heart, and a Cowardly Lion who
desperately needs courage. They
all hope the Wizard of Oz will help
them, before the Wicked Witch of
the West catches up with them.
Filled with over 150 beautiful costumes and extravagant production
numbers the show is visually pleasing. But, it is the music that steals
the show. Audiences will instantly
recognize the musical standards:
“Over
the
Rainbow,”
“Munchkindland,” “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” and “We’re Off to
See the Wizard, and many more
numbers that have become legendary in the history of musical theatre.
Join us on May 3-4 at 7:30 pm and
May 5 at 2:00 pm as Dorothy and
her friends make their quest. Tickets can be ordered by calling 8823570. All seats are reserved and
cost is $10 for Adults in advance/
$12 at the door. Students tickets
are $8 in advance/$10 at the door.
May 17, 2013 “Reality Check” will arrive!
Evansville High School is gearing up to host the third annual “Reality Check” for junior and senior high
school students on Friday, May 17, 2013. Reality Check is a hands-on financial literacy event that simulates the
game of “Life.” Students will be handed their life status card: career, salary, benefits, and family. They will learn
financial planning and will be responsible for setting goals and making decisions including balancing a checkbook,
keeping track of monthly income and expenses, as well as making good choices on how to spend their money.
The students must go to all Reality Check Stations staffed by community business volunteers. The stations will
encompass various facets of everyday life such as:
Banks/Credit Unions
Travel and Entertainment
Housing
Clothing
Transportation
Personal Care and Hygiene
Insurance
Taxes
Utilities
Charitable Contributions
Child Care
Investments
Groceries
And Life’s Little Surprises – Fate
The “Reality Check” will reinforce skills students have previously learned in financial literacy, teaching them where
to go in the community, and how to build positive relationships with area businesses. It is designed to provide students
with a glimpse of the cost of living before they enter the real game of “Life.”

Success
Student successes happen in big and small ways throughout the school year. During this time of year we want to recognize students who participate in some competitions that connect our students with students in other districts and with events at the UW Madison. Yahara
Yahara River Writers offers students in grades 5‐8 the opportunity to submit their writing and cartoons for publication. Hundreds of entries are received each year from students in surrounding districts. This year we have three students who will be recognized for their work on May 15 at UW Madison. Congratulations to Sophie Krainyk for her short story Playing God, Lindsey Oberdorf for her poetry Life, and Sophie Aikman for her poetry Cats. In addition to being able to attend the event in Madison, each of the students will receive a Yahara River Writer’s Anthology containing their published work. Math 24
March 20th was an important day, not only because it was the first day of spring, but also because it was Math 24 Tournament Day on the UW‐Madison Campus. Math 24 is a mental computation game that challenges students to use multiplication, division, addition and subtraction GT Staff: Levi Leonard Elementary School Heather Hanson 882‐3112 [email protected] Theodore Robinson Intermediate School Teresa Doyle 882‐3865 [email protected] JC McKenna Middle School Lynda Oleinik 882‐3353 [email protected] Evansville High School Lynda Oleinik 882‐3564 [email protected] ALL EDUCATORS IN THE EVANSVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE DEDICATED TO

They competed against students from schools such as Stoughton, Verona, Orfordville‐Parkview, Beloit, Oregon, McFarland, Middleton‐Cross Plains, Brodhead and Monona Grove. Noetic Learning Math Contest
This year some of our younger students became involved with math competitions with the Noetic Learning Math Contest. During the contest, students are given 45 minutes to solve 20 problems that can cover a broad range of mathematics skills taught in school, including:  Computation and number properties  Pattern and algebra  Geometry and measurement  Probability and statistics We had eight 2nd grade students participate in the spring Noetic Learning Math Contest. Congratulations go to Maria Messling, Regan Hoffman, and Kendra Finfrock, who tied for team winner. The Art of Writing Young Authors and Artists Conference is being held on July 25, 2013 at the Milwaukee Art Museum. This one‐day conference is for students in grades 4‐12. Youth and Chronic Illness
While medical problems are always difficult, it can be especially hard
when a child has a chronic illness. This group is for 6- to 18-year-old
kids who deal with illnesses such as diabetes, Crohn’s disease,
spina bifida and other chronic conditions.
Group members will attend age-specific groups and meet other kids in
similar situations. They will learn ways to manage the stress of having
an illness, cope with the sometimes difficult treatments, and identify
coping skills to deal with the individual, family and social aspects
related to the illness.
The group meets regularly at Mercy Options Behavioral Health ClinicJanesville. New groups start regularly. To get started, call (608) 756-5555
to schedule as assessment with Chantel Stried, LCSW.
