COMMUNITY & COMMERCE AWARDS Pause here and take a few minutes to reflect on the people who make a difference in our community. Awards for leadership, education, and small business will be presented at the Community & Commerce Breakfast on June 16. Please help us identify outstanding community involvement by nominating someone who makes our community a better place by being involved. A nomination form is included in this newsletter and can also be found on our website under the event. DO YOU WANT TO RAISE YOUR PROFILE? In an intuit.com article, “Why You Should Join Your Local Chamber of Commerce,” written by Tim Parker, members of various chambers explain why they joined. Lynn Hood of Atlanta-based Crackerjack Marketing Chamber says, “I have been an active member of the Metro Atlanta Chamber for the past several years, with the key word being active ... I participate on committees and volunteer my services. This allows me to meet executives at big companies — who are my targets — and talk with them in a nonpitching environment. They also have a chance to see my ideas and contributions.” UPV Chamber member Frank Falk, Falk Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., echoes this sentiment, “No amount of advertising can compete with the business-building benefit of face-to-face contact and networking. My involvement in the Board of Directors allows me to give back in some small measure. I firmly believe that no other organization creates as many opportunities to come in contact with respected members of the community like the UPV Chamber. The more involved I've become the more I have benefited.” For ideas on how to get more involved in the UPV Chamber, give us a call at 215.679.3336. UPV CHAMBER | MARCH-APRIL 7 UPVCC MAGAZINE After months of hard work, the newest edition of Our Valley magazine is now available at the Chamber office! Our Valley is a publication of the UPV Chamber of Commerce in a joint venture with NexZest, Inc. It began as a summer intern project and has evolved into a comprehensive collection of information and a guided tour of our rural community, complete with a reference to local businesses. Its pages include everything from a complete guide to all of our area parks, some tips to “rediscover recreation,” highlights of unique Valley events, local businesses, food, fun and much more! We hope you smile as you page through this fresh approach to living in the Upper Perkiomen Valley. Please contact us if you would like copies of the magazine. Special thanks to NexZest, Inc. for a successful collaboration. INTERESTED IN JOINING A CHAMBER COMMITTEE? The Legislative Affairs Council is a standing committee consisting of local legislators, business representatives and representatives from the UP School District and The Perkiomen School. The committee meets about once a month, with most meetings occurring on Fridays at 9am at the UPV Chamber office. These meetings provide an opportunity for the legislators to share current/pending legislation. Council members have the opportunity to discuss challenges, projects and/or present concerns. Does this sound of interest to you? If so, please call Michele Fillippo, 215.679.3336, to sign up.
