Manhattan Society Report from Christopher London and Gregory Partanio September Blur...much ado about cocktails SEASONS CHANGE... gradually. As a summer of revelry and fundraising in the Hamptons came to an end it was briefly all quiet on the Eastern Front. In the blink of an eye, however, New York City was very much in full gear for the Fall benefit season. This year, however, Hurricane Katrina’s destruction of a vast section of the southeastern United States, in and around New Orleans, Louisiana resulted in the alteration of plans for many in the fundraising community. Scheduled fundraisers for certain worthwhile charitable organizations shifted their focus to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina. A national tragedy became a local priority. New Yorkers from all walks of life and not just the corridors of power and privilege seemingly got involved in one way or another with assisting in the relief effort. At the D&D Building’s 40th Anniversary Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Benefit Celebration, guest of honour was Mayor Michael Bloomberg. declared September 13th D&D Day to Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of NYC’s Famous Decoration and Design Building which had undergone a face-lift. Bernardaud held a cocktail reception for donors and Benefit Committee of the Princess Grace Awards Gala, Tuesday’s Children held their 3rd Annual Toast of New York Benefit honoring Rudolph W. Giuliani and the New York Mets Organization for support to 9/11 families at Cipriani in Manhattan; and the late media mogul Malcolm Forbes’ daughter Moira Forbes Mumma along with co-chairs Chad Burkhardt, Christopher London, and Allison Weiss welcomed guests to the Forbes Magazine Galleries for benefit auction and cocktail party hosted by New York Tomorrow’s Leaders for the Coalition and the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The event raised $25,000 for The Community Coalition and an anonymous donor gave additional $10,000 to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. 114 PRESTIGE NOVEMBER 2005 Tuesday’s Children 3rd Annual Toast of New York Benefit honoring Rudolph W.
