3 National Award Winners
Two Washington site coordinators and one partner school were recognized by Communities
In Schools National for their outstanding work last year. Dalisha Phillips, site coordinator
with CIS of Seattle, and Leah Livingston, site coordinator with CIS of Lakewood, were
recipients of Unsung Heroes awards for demonstrating excellence in helping students
overcome obstacles to succeed.
Aki Kurose Middle School Academy, served by CIS of Seattle, was honored with a School
of Excellence award, which highlights successful implementation of the proven site coordinator
model in a partner school.
Only five Unsung Heroes and four Schools of Excellence were selected from a national
network of more than 200 affiliates and 2,400 schools. We are proud to have such high quality
work happening in our state.
