PRESIDENT’S NOTES #19 - November 2011
Dear Porschephiles
The year is coming to a close, so it is PARTY TIME
1.0 PCM Annual Dinner
Held at Grand Dorsett, Subang, this year's
edition is themed the 'Rocking 60s'
Ok, some of you guys and gals were not born
yet, and that your daddy was chasing your
mummy back then. Let's face it, if not for the
Rocking 60s, your daddy may not have
caught your mummy and you would not have
existed!!!
It was fun looking at the big hair, leather
jackets, boots, hippy hippy shakers,
twiggies and really, that era was so
diverse it was easy to dress up. That was
when the Beatles came out of Merseyside,
Elvis got even bigger, Chuck Berry,
Hollies, Rod Stewart started with the
Yardbirds and so forth. The songs,
especially the Rock was awesome, and to
do us justice were the Strollers, the
number one band of the sixties. They
gave renditions of their number one hits
too.
Pre-dinner was high lighted with a display
of 4 Porsches, the race version of a 993
GT2 Evo III was curious, being the last of
the racing air-cooled monsters. At the
other spectrum, was the last of the 997
GT3 RS 4.0, the ultimate GT3RS to date.
What caught the imagination of the
people was an all action simulator with a
Porsche Carrera Cup Race at Sepang. All
racing to win the President's Prize of an
iPhone 4s, brought in specially for this
Race. 38 Racers participated which was eventually won by Tan Kok Ho.Also on
display were sponsors Amee Phillips, G'Zox, Pana G (3M), SDAP, Schmidt, and
Guinness Anchor.

PRESIDENT’S NOTES #19 - November 2011
The dinner itself was attended by
about 190 members and guests,
buffet style to the throbbing beat
of 60s rhythms. This year, the
generous sponsors made it a
more tech savvy feel. Lucky
draws include note pads from
Hewlett Packard, Lenovo, jewelry
from Amee Phillips, G'Zox's car
care products, Pana G's 3M
adhesives,
Binawarehouse's
Kohler vouchers, Delta's sensor
tap, SDAP's Porsche range,
Bridgestone tires, Schmidt, Minoz
Luxury Concepts,Pulai Springs
and a whole load of other nice
things. All in all, $320,000 worth
were given away. Thank you so
much, sponsors, for making it a
wonderful night.
I must thank Social Director Dato
Alex Nah, ably assisted by Jackie
Chin, Dato Peppe Foo and the
other WAGs (wives and girlfriends) for helping out. The 60s, may it keep on
Rocking
2.0 Carlsberg Brewery night
During one of the many functions we attended,
an invitation by Dato Mike Krishnan, director of
Carlsberg to PCM was extended to me. Hey,
hosting by Carlsberg is never turned down.
Once postponed before due to the Oktoberfest,
now, it comes on. 61 members turned up, and
with guests the figure was substantially more.
Dato Mike and Carlsberg CEO, Soren was
there to host the full dinner complete with roast
lamb. Sad to say none of us could take up
Soren's invitation to taste ALL their 25 beers,
drafts and liquor before be depart, otherwise
we would be leaving on wheel chairs rather
than driving back in our Porsches.

PRESIDENT’S NOTES #19 - November 2011
We were happy that more than 10 new members turned up,
and they had to be initiated. So they objected to having to
finish 10 beers in 10 minutes, but could not escape one beer
in 30 seconds. Thanks for being so sporty, although two of
you had beer coming out of your nostrils.
Towards a great relationship in the coming year with
Carlsberg, we hope to have more Brewery visits, Annual
dinners, Golf, Oktoberfest etc. Many thanks
3.0 Petronas Track Day
New member, Nizam initiated this,
thank you. We were allotted only
6 slots, and to blast out, we had
18 responses in 2 hours, to close
quickly. Thanks to Dato Derrick
Lim and Nizam, we managed to
get a lot more slots and in the
end, about 20 Porsches turned
up in what was a very short
notice. Petronas, the ever
generous host, treated us to a full
day of track activities which
included go-karts, drift and taxi
rides round the track.
Then.... open track day, but too
bad, it was raining heavily. No
fear, we still went out, mindful of
the wet condition, which was
really fun and slippery with
puddles, running water across
the track and miniscule visibility.
This is a hairy chested track day.
Petronas was actually launching
their fuel dispenser at Sepang. We do not need to drive out to refuel now. It is at
the support garage. They will have packages for races too. To us Racers and
Track day addicts, it is really fantastic. Needless to say, Petronas sponsored
whatever fuel we required that day. let's hope we have a long relationship with
Petronas in future

PRESIDENT’S NOTES #19 - November 2011
4.0 Sir Elton John Concert, Genting
So many of us grew up with his songs.
He lighted our early formative years,
and to our younger generations, the
karaoke made up the missing time.
Over 80 members and guests were
there to relive our youth. These days,
PCM events are very quickly filled up,
which to me, is fantastic.
We arranged a drive to Gohtong Jaya
for dinner, on PCM's Drive budget,
which still had some remaining fund
which needed to be spent rather than
kept in the bank.
Sir Elton, to us, will always be the icon,
with his genius on the key board, song
writing and lyrics. There is no one like him in the new generation of superstars.
There, he is unique, supremely talented and gifted. There he embedded
memories into our hearts and had woven intrinsic joy into our souls. We were
surprised that some ballads were given rock versions, which was done so
beautifully.
From his early 'Candle in the Wind', we could feel Princess Diana's presence,
and the sadness that came with it. Almost 3 hours, this guy has stamina. Encore,

Three songs more and his 'Your Song',
the
signature
of
all
romantic
dedications made this one of the best
concerts of pure singing talent. Thanks
Chris Tan, for the arrangements,
especially the exclusive car-parking up
in Genting
