Porsche-Audi: More than a matter of national pride...
For its resumption after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the FIA WEC goes to Germany. It is an event of primary
importance for the two manufacturers who between them have monopolized the top step of the podium since
the start of 2015. Although Ingolstadt won at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, it was Weissach that wrote its
name a seventeenth time in the winners roster of the Le Mans 24 Hours. We spoke with Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head
of Audi competition and Wolfgang Hatz, board member of Porsche AG.

ie erklären Sie die Bedeutung der
Autorennen nach Ansicht der deutschen
Automobilhersteller?
W.A.: Ich kann nur für Porsche sprechen. Autorennen sind Teil
unserer Geschichte und unsere Strategie. Sie ermöglichen die
Entwicklung neuer Technologien, die sich auf unsere Serienwagen
übertragen lassen. Das sind die Hauptgründe, aus denen wir sehr
viel Geld in unsere verschiedenen Sportprogramme investieren.

ow do you account for the importance of racing
in the eyes of German car manufacturers?
W.A.: I can only answer that with regard to Porsche. Motor racing
is part of our history and of our strategy. It allows us to develop
new technologies transposable our production cars. These are the
main reasons pushing us to inject so much money in our various
sports programmes.
