september in new generations month
In the Rotary calender September is designated to be the New
Generations Month. Now just what do you do during this
month?
In the Club, we try to carry out activities that concerns the
New Generations. This responsibility is given to the New Gen
Director who oversees these activities which involves basically
the Rotaractors, the Interactors and all youth. In the regular
club meeting, the programme chairman can invite a youth (be
him/her a person from the Rotaract or Interact) to talk about
anything that concerns today’s youth. Some subjects can be
their attitude towards today’s education, their concern over
today’s social problems, drugs, dating, the Internet, parental
guidance etc.
Or a forum can be organised for either experts or the youth
themselves to discuss these issues. One would be surprised
to discover that what the adults or authorities think might be
greatly divergent from what the youth think. In this cyber age
when information can be obtain with just a click of the computer,
the youth of today is perhaps the most knowledgeable ever.
However knowledgeable is one thing, and attitude is another.
So it would help the authorities a lot to know some of these
youth’s attitudes so that the formulated laws are not in conflict
with their desires and thinking. Otherwise enforcing the laws
would be difficult.
The Rotaractors and Interactors themselves can organised
projects that project their activities. This is important as their
activities are considered to be healthy activities and can act as a
lure from otherwise unhealthy activities. Some of their projects
can involve visits to old folks home, thus teaching them to be
respectful to senior citizens and parents, or a project that tells
about the dangers of the use of illegal substance like drugs. It
might even be as simple as doing a painting job for their school
in respect of Interactors.
The Rotary Club of Pudu has consciously done many projects
with the New Generations during the month of September.
One such project was an outing to Keyir Dam with a
group of wayward youth to promote family values. Another
one was a trip to the Endau Rompin Rainforest with
Interactors, Rotaractors, handicapped youths, International
student to promote fellowship amongst them and also to give
them an awareness of environmental protection. We had also
carried out an exhibition of the danger of the use of illegal
drugs meant mainly for the youth.
September is an important month for all Rotary Clubs as it
asks us to be consciously aware of today’s youth problems.
Rotary has asked us to not only think about them, but to do
something as well. The well known statement comes to mind
“the youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders”. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
September is New Generations Month in the Rotary
calendar. This is the time for us as Rotarians to focus on the
programs that support the development of youths and
young adults. If we believe that young people are the leaders
of tomorrow, we should then, support the development of
youths and young adults in the most beneficial ways possible.
Again, this reminds us of R.I President, John Kenny’s Rotary
Theme – “The Future of Rotary Is In Your Hands” – he
strongly emphasis that it is important indeed for every Rotarian
to play a significant role in shaping the future of Rotary.
Every youth and young adult are our potential Rotarian.
Hence, every Rotarian is an example to the youth and young
adult.

As business leaders, Rotarians are always in a unique position to
provide vocational guidance and career opportunities to
young people. Rotarians also promote the ideal of service
to young people through Interact club programs.
Ultimately, for more than four decades, Pudu Rotary Club has
sponsored 9 Interact Clubs around the Pudu prefecture.
In this avenue of service, for these young people, programs
such as Career Development, Rotary Rotaract Interact
Games, Youth Exchange, Community and International
Understanding Projects are being organized. Nevertheless,
one of the most effective program is our own profound Interact
Leadership Training Seminar (ILTS). Every year around the
month of March or early April, without fail, youths between
the ages of 12 and 18 are given the opportunity to learn how
to work together in fellowship dedicated to service and
international understanding in this seminar before they take
office as Interactors.

Another important program is Rotaract. Every Rotaract is
a potential Rotarian, so we should continuously consider
supporting and nurturing them to be our future leaders as our
highest prerogatives.
In our District 3300, for more than 36 years , Pudu Rotary Club
have sponsored one and the only one community-minded
men and women Rotaract Club and these Rotaractors
are involved, energetic, and very committed to the
Rotary ideal of service. You will find their fresh ideas, and
perspectives to be most valuable and their presence help
energize and inspired the Club, if you have the opportunity
to work with them in their community projects.

Today is a very special day for our Club. We are inducting 3
new Rotarians to our club this afternoon and they are Ms.
Brenda Lee, Ms Lee Su Zane and Mr James Prophett. With
them being inducted our Club’s membership is now 60. But
before this, there are few announcements to be made.
Thank You PP Sam for putting in all the hard work and for
raising the money. Thank You to all our kind and generous
donors and not forgetting to mention, Thank You PP Albert
Lim for getting the Members of the Press and Media to
cover this significant and meaningful event.
My Fellow Rotarians, this month of August we have an
eventful month. Last Monday, 17th August 2009, more
than 190 people attended the Book Launch - The Footprint
of a Judge through Mother Earth and it was successfully
concluded. A sum of RM100,000.00 has been raised and
another RM20,000.00 in the form of books.
A total of 19 Rotarians and Rotary Anns were there at St.
John Ambulans Malaysia Kawasan Pantai Selangor, HQ and
after the function, as usual, Pudu Rotary’s Style, fellowship
continued. We were all been treated with a sumptuous Bak
Kut Teh at Butik Tinggi, Klang by PP Choo Jee Sam.

COLLECTIONS
On last Saturday, 22nd of August 2009, our Club handed
over 2 Motor Scooters equipped with the necessary life
saving tools for fast and effective application to St John
Ambulans Malaysia, Kawasan Pantai Selangor. This noble
project, “FIRST RESPONDER IN EMERGENCY” was graciously
graced by our Guest of Honour and Honorary Member,
YB Datin Paduka Senator Chew Mei Fun and yesterday,
the news was highlighted in most of the leading Chinese
newspapers.
Thank you, Organizing Chairman and co author, Rtn Alex
Chang for coming up with this noble idea and to all the
generous donors for making a difference and for your kind
donation.
Fellow Rotarians, please be informed that on 16th September
2009, we are holding our 3rd FIRESIDE and it will be hosted
by Rtn Sarky. Our dedicated “Pengurus Tepi Api”, Rtn Tan
Peng Huat will be going around to get in touch with you for
your attendance.

In line with our motto “For the Service of Mankind”, we, are
always ready to serve the needy.
Hence, we always look for better improvement in the quality
of our service to the public. We are grateful that our regular
donors never put a stop supporting us on the effort that we
have given to the public.
Rotary Club of Pudu has a long partner-in-service relationship
with St. John Ambulance, Kawasan Pantai Selangor.
The first project was The Dialysis Centre in Klang, where Rotary
Club of Pudu raised RM270K for 6 dialysis machines for the
centre. The second one was much more ambitious where
RM800K was raised to equip the centre in Rawang. The third

were put in. The forth centre was in Shah Alam where RM500K
worth of machines were put into service. All 4 centres are
utilized and running well.
You are now invited to the launching of our fifth project with
St. John Ambulance, Kawasan Pantai Selangor “First Responder
in Emergency”. This is to test the effectiveness of the first
responder concept. Where fast and immediate response is
critical and in view of the constant traffic congestion, we feel
the motorcycle is most appropriate. The 2 motorcycles are
fully equipped with the necessary life saving tools for fast and
effective application handled by St John’s trained staff worth
RM33,000. If proven effective, this may be introduced to other
densely populated cities with heavy traffic problems. We believe
that with such service, we can respond to the emergency cases
competently and efficiently.
Again, we would like to thank Rotary Club of Pudu for their
enormous contribution.
Goodyear Marketing Sdn Bhd is continuing their great work by
donating 30 tyres for our ambulances. We, as a NGO, always
to need to raise sufficient fund to sustain our daily operation,
especially the high ambulance maintenance cost that we have to
cover for all these years. We are thankful that their contribution
makes us able to facilitate the ambulances maintenance cost
efficiency.
And, we really appreciate that the Inner Wheels Kuala Lumpur
has pledged RM10,000 cash to our organization. We hope to
help the needy with the fund donated.
We are glad that YB Datin Paduka Senator Chew Mei Fun is

Menyedari keperluan sedemikian, Kelab Rotary Pudu
membentuk kerjasama dengan Persatuan St John Ambulans
Malaysia kawasan Pantai Selangor untuk mengurangkan kadar
risiko kematian pengguna jalan raya melalui penubuhan `First
Responder in Emergency’.
Kelab itu menyumbangkan RM33,000 bersama dua skuter,
manakala Kelab Inner Wheels menyumbangkan RM10,000
yang akan digunakan untuk memberi bantuan kecemasan
awal. Syarikat Goodyear Sdn Bhd pula menyumbangkan 35
tayar bagi kegunaan ambulans persatuan itu.
Semua sumbangan itu disampaikan Timbalan Menteri Wanita,
Keluarga dan Pembangunan Masyarakat, Datin Paduka Senator
Chew Mei Fun, pada majlis ringkas di premis persatuan itu.
Ketika berucap pada majlis itu, Chew berkata, penggunaan
motosikal lebih praktikal untuk membawa ahli paramedik
ke tempat kemalangan berbanding ambulans yang terpaksa
mengambil masa lama untuk tiba berikutan kesesakan jalan
raya.
“Saya percaya nyawa yang berharga dapat diselamatkan
melalui cara ini. Jika kaedah ini berjaya, saya berharap ia dapat
diperkenalkan di kawasan yang dikenal pasti mencatat angka
kemalangan tertinggi,” katanya.
Antara kawasan yang mencatatkan kadar kemalangan tinggi
ialah di Klang dan Kuala Lumpur.
Seramai 1.2 juta orang terbunuh akibat kemalangan jalan
raya setiap tahun di seluruh dunia dan jumlah itu dijangka
meningkat kepada 65 peratus dalam tempoh 20 tahun akan
datang jika tiada usaha dilakukan bagi meminimumkan angka
korban itu.
Statistik di Malaysia pula menunjukkan lebih 6,200 orang
terbunuh di jalan raya setiap tahun dan setiap hari tiga
penunggang motosikal mengalami kecederaan dengan satu
daripadanya terbunuh, manakala ada yang menderita akibat
kecederaan dialami.
Kerjasama antara Persatuan St John Ambulans Malaysia dengan
Kelab Rotary Pudu terus mantap apabila berjaya mewujudkan
empat rangkaian Pusat Haemodialisis bernilai RM2 juta di
empat kawasan terpilih antaranya Klang dan Shah Alam selain
beroperasi di 13 Pusat Dialisis seluruh Selangor.

James is married to Tracey and they have three children one of
who most of you have met Hope who is preparing for university
next year and 2 sons, James has 3 Jack Russell terriers and 3
horses and will shortly be buying a fourth a miniature Shetland
pony. His family home is in Doncaster Yorkshire famous for
its beautiful countryside and horse racing and he supports
Doncaster Rovers a championship side hopefully one day
compete in the premiership league.
James is an investment specialist with over 23 years experience
and has gained his professional qualifications from the
Chartered Insurance Institute of England he has worked for
one of Europe’s biggest banks National Westminster Bank and
the largest insurance company in UK Norwich Union. James
was invited out to Malaysia because of his experience and
qualifications with his core expertise in Corporate and individual
advise this put him as one of Asian leading specialists in his
field. James is a co founder of myqrops.biz one of the top web
sites in its category specializing in assisting people who have
worked in the UK irrespective of nationality in bringing their

James has been in Malaysia since October last year and lives in

To promote better fellowship
Dear fellow Pudu Rotarians,
As we are all aware, Rotary was founded on fellowship and
friendship. Thus fellowship is recognized as the Foundation
Stone of Rotary. This foundation has helped Rotary to survive
two world wars and numerous world disasters and calamities.
To achieve or strengthen this bond of fellowship and friendship,
Rotary International has listed as one its requirements of a
Rotarian the need to attend weekly Rotary meetings as meetings
provide “the development of acquaintance as an opportunity
for service” – first part of Object of Rotary. Club members
attending our weekly meetings provide us the opportunity to
enhance friendship with each other so as to enable us to join
hands to serve. Thus has been said that “we can’t promote
fellowship with empty chairs”.
Rotary Clubs throughout the Rotary world regularly innovate
programmers to encourage attendance. Amongst the numerous
methods is the attendance competition within the club. This
competition is not just to promote better attendance but also
to provide a spirit of friendly fun competition.
Our President Robin Tay has mooted the idea of an attendance
competition for this Rotary Year where all our club members
(except the exempt members) are divided into 11 groups of 4
members each. Each group will be headed by a board of director
who will be responsible to monitor and encourage better
attendance. With this simple fun attendance competition, we

It is indeed an honour for me to be invited to launch this
timely and most needed community service project called “First
Responder in Emergency” which will definitely save some lives.
Road accidents is projected as the third leading cause of the
global burden of disease by year 2020 according to the World
Health Organisation (WHO), if there is no new intervention to
resolve this problem. In fact, road traffic injuries are a major
but neglected public health challenge that requires concerted
efforts for effective and sustainable prevention.
It is estimated that 1.2 million men, women and children are
killed in road crashes each year and millions more seriously
injured globally. Projections indicate that these figures will
increase by about 65% the next 20 years unless there is new
commitment to prevention. In Malaysia, more than 6,200
Malaysians are killed annually on our roads.
Everyday, 3 people are injured, 1 suffer from severe injury in
motor vehicle every hour and 17 people die in road accidents.
The high number of road accidents injuries and deaths in
Malaysia has devastating effects directly on the affected families
and the larger community.
The Government is committed to minimise injuries and
casualties due to road crashes. In line with this, the Ministry of
Transport has adopted a 5-year plan, namely Road Safety Plan
of Malaysia, 2006-2010 in 2006. The Plan outlines 9 strategis
to address road safety issues covering education, enforcement,
engineering and environmental issue.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As most of you may be well aware, densely populated areas
especially in KL and Klang are infamous for traffic congestion.
As such, in the event of any emergency especially road accidents
in these areas, ambulances may encounter much difficulty in
having to squeeze through heavy traffic.
Thus, during emergencies, the first responder in the form of
fully equipped motorcycles will most effectively reach victimsurvivors promptly and thus able to administer necessary first
aid promptly. I believe many precious lives could be saved in this
way. If proven to be successful, I hope this will be introduced
to other densely populated areas. I take this opportunity to say
“syabas” to St John Ambulans and the Rotary Club of Pudu.
Some of you may know I am an honorary member of the Rotary
Club of Pudu and I am truly proud of this project as well as
other projects carried out by the club. I understand we have
a long partner-in-service relationship with St John Ambulans,
Kawasan Pantai Selangor. Both organizations share the ideal of
service to the community.
The Rotary Club of Pudu and St John have successfully set up
4 dialysis centres in Klang, Rawang, Raub and Shah Alam and I
believe about RM2 million have been raised. All the centres are
doing well and servicing mainly the lower-income groups. As
I understand, St John Ambulance operates 13 dialysis centres
in the country. On behalf of all the patients and their families,
I thank you for your great contribution to society. The spirit
and dedication of your organization is commendable and
admirable.
Further to this, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank
the Inner Club of Kuala Lumpur for donating RM10,000 to St

KLANG: Setiap kali ada kemalangan jalan raya, perkara sering
berlaku ialah kesesakan jalan raya berikutan ramai yang mahu
melihat apa yang berlaku.
Malangnya, bukan untuk membantu, sebaliknya sekadar
mengetahui sama ada kemalangan itu teruk dan menyebabkan
kematian atau sekadar calar pada badan kenderaan.
Apa yang dibimbangkan ialah sikap begini akan hanya
menyusahkan pasukan penyelamat, terutama jika kemalangan
itu membabitkan nyawa dan memerlukan rawatan segera.

Motosikal lebih praktikal beri bantuan di kawasan sesak
KLANG: Setiap kali ada kemalangan jalan raya, perkara sering
berlaku ialah kesesakan jalan raya berikutan ramai yang mahu
melihat apa yang berlaku.
Malangnya, bukan untuk membantu, sebaliknya sekadar
mengetahui sama ada kemalangan itu teruk dan menyebabkan
kematian atau sekadar calar pada badan kenderaan.
Apa yang dibimbangkan ialah sikap begini akan hanya
menyusahkan pasukan penyelamat, terutama jika kemalangan
itu membabitkan nyawa dan memerlukan rawatan segera.
Statistik Persatuan St John Ambulans menunjukkan 17 orang
terbabit dalam nahas jalan raya setiap jam.
Sehubungan itu, bantuan kecemasan awal penting untuk
menentukan sama ada mangsa mampu bertahan atau
kecederaan menjadi lebih teruk dan akhirnya membawa
kepada kematian.
Tindakan pemandu ambulans membunyikan siren juga tidak
banyak membantu kerana ramai seolah-olah memekakkan
telinga, selain keadaan lalu lintas yang sesak teruk sehingga
menyukarkan pemandu kenderaan lain memberi laluan.
Idea penggunaan motosikal skuter dilihat sebagai satu cara
yang mampu menyelamatkan nyawa mangsa kemalangan
secepat mungkin.
Menyedari keperluan sedemikian, Kelab Rotary Pudu
membentuk kerjasama dengan Persatuan St John Ambulans
Malaysia kawasan Pantai Selangor untuk mengurangkan kadar
risiko kematian pengguna jalan raya melalui penubuhan `First
Responder in Emergency’.
Kelab itu menyumbangkan RM33,000 bersama dua skuter,
manakala Kelab Inner Wheels menyumbangkan RM10,000
yang akan digunakan untuk memberi bantuan kecemasan
awal. Syarikat Goodyear Sdn Bhd pula menyumbangkan 35
tayar bagi kegunaan ambulans persatuan itu.
Semua sumbangan itu disampaikan Timbalan Menteri Wanita,
Keluarga dan Pembangunan Masyarakat, Datin Paduka Senator
Chew Mei Fun, pada majlis ringkas di premis persatuan itu.
Ketika berucap pada majlis itu, Chew berkata, penggunaan
motosikal lebih praktikal untuk membawa ahli paramedik
ke tempat kemalangan berbanding ambulans yang terpaksa
mengambil masa lama untuk tiba berikutan kesesakan jalan
raya.
“Saya percaya nyawa yang berharga dapat diselamatkan
melalui cara ini. Jika kaedah ini berjaya, saya berharap ia dapat
diperkenalkan di kawasan yang dikenal pasti mencatat angka
kemalangan tertinggi,” katanya.
Antara kawasan yang mencatatkan kadar kemalangan tinggi
ialah di Klang dan Kuala Lumpur.
Seramai 1.2 juta orang terbunuh akibat kemalangan jalan
raya setiap tahun di seluruh dunia dan jumlah itu dijangka
meningkat kepada 65 peratus dalam tempoh 20 tahun akan
datang jika tiada usaha dilakukan bagi meminimumkan angka
korban itu.
Statistik di Malaysia pula menunjukkan lebih 6,200 orang
terbunuh di jalan raya setiap tahun dan setiap hari tiga
penunggang motosikal mengalami kecederaan dengan satu
daripadanya terbunuh, manakala ada yang menderita akibat
kecederaan dialami.
Kerjasama antara Persatuan St John Ambulans Malaysia dengan
Kelab Rotary Pudu terus mantap apabila berjaya mewujudkan
empat rangkaian Pusat Haemodialisis bernilai RM2 juta di
empat kawasan terpilih antaranya Klang dan Shah Alam selain
beroperasi di 13 Pusat Dialisis seluruh Selangor.

Mr. Burnard Yeo, the Commander-in-Chief of St John Ambulans
Kawasan Pantai Selangor together with President Robin Tay, Datin
Paduka Chew Mei Fun and Rotary Ann Tenny was shown the safety
features of the First Responder in Emergency Scooter.
Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun was on time and the function starts
on time at noon at the St John Ambulans Kawasan Pantai Selangor
Ambulance Head Quarter.

Mr. I Kumaraguru Muniandy had his tertiary education at
Inti College and obtained his MBA from Monash University,
Melbourne. Worked at HP as an systems engineer. Later
worked at EDS Cyberjaya as a Network Engineer. Started
his own company Maha Asia Sdn.Bhd. and has been in the
computer and security systems field for the last 6 years.

In line with our motto “For the Service of Mankind”, we, are
always ready to serve the needy.
Hence, we always look for better improvement in the quality
of our service to the public. We are grateful that our regular
donors never put a stop supporting us on the effort that we
have given to the public.
Rotary Club of Pudu has a long partner-in-service relationship
with St. John Ambulance, Kawasan Pantai Selangor.
The first project was The Dialysis Centre in Klang, where Rotary
Club of Pudu raised RM270K for 6 dialysis machines for the
centre. The second one was much more ambitious where
RM800K was raised to equip the centre in Rawang. The third
centre was in Raub where 10 dialysis machines worth RM450K
were put in. The forth centre was in Shah Alam where RM500K
worth of machines were put into service. All 4 centres are
utilized and running well.
You are now invited to the launching of our fifth project with
St. John Ambulance, Kawasan Pantai Selangor “First Responder
in Emergency”. This is to test the effectiveness of the first
responder concept. Where fast and immediate response is
critical and in view of the constant traffic congestion, we feel
the motorcycle is most appropriate. The 2 motorcycles are
fully equipped with the necessary life saving tools for fast and
effective application handled by St John’s trained staff worth
RM33,000. If proven effective, this may be introduced to other
densely populated cities with heavy traffic problems. We believe
that with such service, we can respond to the emergency cases
competently and efficiently.
Again, we would like to thank Rotary Club of Pudu for their
enormous contribution.
Goodyear Marketing Sdn Bhd is continuing their great work by
donating 30 tyres for our ambulances. We, as a NGO, always
to need to raise sufficient fund to sustain our daily operation,
especially the high ambulance maintenance cost that we have to
cover for all these years. We are thankful that their contribution
makes us able to facilitate the ambulances maintenance cost
efficiency.
And, we really appreciate that the Inner Wheels Kuala Lumpur
has pledged RM10,000 cash to our organization. We hope to
help the needy with the fund donated.
We are glad that YB Datin Paduka Senator Chew Mei Fun is
invited as our Guest of Honour to witness our handing over
ceremony on this day. We thank her for great support towards
our effort to accomplish our mission to contribute for the
society.

Today is a very special day for our Club. We are inducting 3
new Rotarians to our club this afternoon and they are Ms.
Brenda Lee, Ms Lee Su Zane and Mr James Prophett. With
them being inducted our Club’s membership is now 60. But
before this, there are few announcements to be made.
Thank You PP Sam for putting in all the hard work and for
raising the money. Thank You to all our kind and generous
donors and not forgetting to mention, Thank You PP Albert
Lim for getting the Members of the Press and Media to
cover this significant and meaningful event.
My Fellow Rotarians, this month of August we have an
eventful month. Last Monday, 17th August 2009, more
than 190 people attended the Book Launch - The Footprint
of a Judge through Mother Earth and it was successfully
concluded. A sum of RM100,000.00 has been raised and
another RM20,000.00 in the form of books.
A total of 19 Rotarians and Rotary Anns were there at St.
John Ambulans Malaysia Kawasan Pantai Selangor, HQ and
after the function, as usual, Pudu Rotary’s Style, fellowship
continued. We were all been treated with a sumptuous Bak
Kut Teh at Butik Tinggi, Klang by PP Choo Jee Sam.

Acting SAA PP KU Rajah called the meeting to order at 1:10
pm on behalf of President Robin Tay. He introduced all the

of the National Anthem and as this was the month of

COLLECTIONS
On last Saturday, 22nd of August 2009, our Club handed
over 2 Motor Scooters equipped with the necessary life
saving tools for fast and effective application to St John
Ambulans Malaysia, Kawasan Pantai Selangor. This noble
project, “FIRST RESPONDER IN EMERGENCY” was graciously
graced by our Guest of Honour and Honorary Member,
YB Datin Paduka Senator Chew Mei Fun and yesterday,
the news was highlighted in most of the leading Chinese
newspapers.
Thank you, Organizing Chairman and co author, Rtn Alex
Chang for coming up with this noble idea and to all the
generous donors for making a difference and for your kind
donation.
Fellow Rotarians, please be informed that on 16th September
2009, we are holding our 3rd FIRESIDE and it will be hosted
by Rtn Sarky. Our dedicated “Pengurus Tepi Api”, Rtn Tan
Peng Huat will be going around to get in touch with you for
your attendance.

recovering at Selayang Hospital and if anyone wants to pay
