Intr oduction
The Sage Timberline Estimating software (version 11.2) provided with the Construction Estimating
textbook is a demonstration release and is limited to 180 days of operation. The number of active
spreadsheet rows is limited to approximately 100.
The Sage Timberline Estimating software is compatible with the following operating systems:

Additional information is provided, where applicable, to allow this version of the Sage Timberline
Estimating software to be installed on a computer running the Windows 7 Home operating system.
Successful installation of the Sage Timberline Estimating software requires four separate steps.

Step 1: Installation of the Sage Timberline Estimating software application
1.Insert the Sage Timberline Estimating software disc into an optical drive.
2.View the contents of the Sage Timberline Estimating software disc.
a. Select the Open folder to view files option from the AutoPlay pop-up window (Windows 7).
b.Navigate using My Computer to explore the contents of the Sage Timberline Estimating software disc
(Windows XP).
3.Double-click SageBrowser.exe to launch the software installer application.

4.Click the Install Sage Timberline Estimating link to start the installation process. (The software will
scan the computer to evaluate if additional supporting components are required to complete the software
installation, which may take in excess of 5 minutes.)
5.Click the Start button to check and install all components shown.

6.Read the Warning presented and click the Yes button to agree and continue with the installation.
7.Read the Sage End User License Agreement presented and click the I Agree button to continue with the
installation.

8.Read the Sage Timberline Product Enhancement Program (PEP) notice presented and click the OK button
to participate. The missing components that were identified will now be installed.
9.Click the OK button to restart the computer.
10.Proceed to Step 2: Install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition virtual server.

The following additional steps are required for installation on a computer running the Windows Home edition operating system.
1.Open a Windows command window.
a. Click the Windows Start button (located in the Start menu bar at the lower left of the Windows screen).
b. Type in cmd in the Search program and files box.
c.Press the Enter key on the keyboard. A command window will be presented.
2.Type cd [DVD drive]:\ in the command window. ([DVD drive] represents the letter of the DVD drive where
the Sage Timberline Estimating DVD is located. In most cases cd[D]:\ will be used.)
3.Press the Enter key on the keyboard.
4.Type prerequisites\SageSetup#/SUPPRESS.PLATFORM.CHECK (The symbol # represents a
single space.)
5.Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Installation of Sage Timberline Estimating software will begin.

Step 2: Installation of the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition virtual server
1.View the contents of the Sage Timberline Estimating software disc.

3.Click the Install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition link to start the installation process.

6.Enter SAGE_ESTIMATING as a unique instance name.
7.Click the OK button to continue. (In some cases the SQL database may take in excess of 15 minutes to
install.)
8.Click the OK button to restart the computer system.

5.Read the Sage End User License Agreement presented and click the radio button located next to the “I accept the terms of the license agreement” text.

Step 4: Setup of the Sage Timberline Estimating software application
1.Open the installed Sage Timberline Estimating software application by following the path:
Start > All Programs > Sage > Sage Timberline Estimating > Sage Timberline Estimating
2.Click the I would like to perform the setup now link.
3.Click the OK button on the Welcome to the Estimating Software Registration Setup pop-up window.

4.Double-click on the EPT-ENU-ePlan Takeoff in the Available Features menu.
a.This item will move to the registration window to the right.
5.Double-click on the PWX-ENU-Estimated-Extended in the Available Features menu.

6.Type Demo in the Registration Name text box.

16. Click the Install sample/commercial databases button.
17. Select the Sample Extended Commercial GC database from the list of Available Databases shown
in the window to the left. Click the > button to move the selected database into the “Databases to install”
window to the right.
18.Repeat the previous step to also select the Sample Commercial GC and Sample Extended Residential Hmbldr databases.
19. Click the Install button to install the database(s) displayed in the “Databases to install” window. The
Database/Estimate Installation results pop-up window will display whether the database was installed successfully or not.

22. Click the OK button.
23. Click the Launch Estimating button.
a. The Estimating Management Console v11.2.0 can be closed after clicking the Launch Estimating button.
b.If this window remains open, an error may be displayed when returning to this screen after the proceeding steps. Close the error window displayed if necessary.

24. Click the Demo button.
25. Click the OK button. The Sage Timberline Estimating software is now available in the demonstration mode
for the next 180 days.
26. Click the Yes, I would like to open a database link.

27. Click SampleExtendedCommercialGC in the My Databases window.
28. Click the OK button. The name of the open estimate will change (top of window) to show the name of the
loaded database that will be used for this estimate.
29.The Sage Timberline Estimating software is now ready for use.
