Targeted for Profit: An Educators` Forum on Human
Targeted for Profit: An Educators’ Forum on Human Trafficking March 12, 2015 Welcome On behalf of Hollowell Church, we want to welcome you to our first forum event focusing on issues of community concern in Franklin and Washington Counties. Human trafficking is a human rights issue that is only recently coming to light here in the safe havens of small town America, but it has been an ongoing and developing problem for some time. It is our hope that by bringing it into the light, developing awareness and exposing its true nature as modern day slavery, we will be able to make a difference and serve notice to the darkness of societal evil that we disagree. This forum is one of our first steps in combating human trafficking in our region. We have chosen to focus upon educators because we see you as front line warriors in the battle. We have an opportunity to partner with you in informing, equipping and empowering those most vulnerable; those who spend a great deal of time under your tutelage and care. It is our privilege to partner with you in bringing awareness and in providing resources that will assist you and your organizations in the effort to protect the children of our culture and stop those who would target them for profit. – Dee Martin, Worship Pastor About Hollowell Forums At Hollowell we recognize that God’s heart breaks for the wounded and oppressed. He repeatedly calls people to look after the orphan and widow, to seek justice and love mercy. Hollowell Forums creates opportunities for social engagement, information exchange, and mobilization of the social-justice arm of our ministry. Human trafficking is massive, and not just in human terms; but in cold, hard cash. Many adults who engage in prostitution do so as a result of poverty and lack of economic opportunities. This is very sad and they need assistance from service providers. However, it is not sex trafficking. Hoffman, K. Human Trafficking of US Adolescents. A person victimized through sexual abuse is not always a victim of sex trafficking. A person victimized through sex trafficking is a victim of sexual abuse. In order for it to be sex trafficking the victim must have been abused in exchange for money, goods, debt forgiveness, or something else of value. Hoffman, K. Human Trafficking of US Adolescents.
