Athletics has a unifying effect on us all. Despite
differences in experience, ability and background,
individuals coming together as a team with a common goal of excellence, creates unity. This unity
of purpose has set the foundation for our tradition
of exceptional athletic teams that exemplify good
sportsmanship at Shawnee Mission Northwest High
School. We realize that our success will ultimately be
measured by our unity as student-athletes, coaches, administrators, students, families and fans in
approaching each athletic endeavor with the spirit of
rigorous competition while maintain good sportsmanship on and off the field of play.
I am optimistic that the coming year at Northwest

Cougars Men’s Coaches
Head Varsity Coach - Mike Rose
Coach Rose is entering his third year at SM Northwest and is also the assistant cross
country coach. He taught math for 10 years in Independence, Kansas where he spent
3 years as the head boy’s basketball coach, head cross country coach and an assistant
track coach at Independence High School. He has been married for 16 years to his wife
Lori, and has 4 children.
Assistant Varsity/ JV Coach - Jim Mowry
Coach Mowry is in his fifth year coaching at SM Northwest and in his fifth year as
counselor. Prior to coming to Northwest, Coach Mowry spent 27 years in the Olathe
School District. Coach Mowry played at McPherson College, graduating in 1970. He has
34 years experience coaching boys and girls at both Junior Varsity and Varsity levels.

Coach Stubenrauch is entering his fifth year of coaching at Northwest. He teaches 9th
grade World Geography, He is a 1998 graduate of Shawnee Mission North, and a 2003
graduate of the University of Kansas.

Coach Mowry is in his second year of coaching at Shawnee Mission Northwest. He
graduated from McPherson College in May, where he played and was a student assistant
for the team. Coach Mowry played and graduated from Olathe North in 2005, and is the
son of the JV coach. He is currently substituting in Shawnee Mission, Olathe, and Blue
Valley.

Entering his first season as Freshmen B coach, Coach Burdolski is a 2006 graduate of
Shawnee Missouri Northwest where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He had the
pleasure of playing for the finest coach in the state of Kansas, coach Ben Meseke, for 4
years. Coach Burdolski played 3 years of collegiate basketball, most recently at Emporia
State. He has now come into the family business of auto collision repair (Classic Collision
Center) which allows him the freedom to pursue a coaching career.

Steve Carver
Steve is the son of Brad and Liza Carver. His activities during his years at Northwest
have included Basketball, Football, Track, National Honor Society, Shawnee
Mission Cotillion, Sophomore Top 100, Student Council, CCC, and Fellowship of
Christian Athletes. Steve has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at
Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts in the fall of 2010 where he would like to earn
a degree in Business.
Nick Feighner
Nick is the son of Tammy and Jim Twait and Todd and Mona Feighner. While at SMNW,
Nick has earned varsity letters in both basketball and baseball. His other activities
include football, NHS, CCC Executive Board, DECA, Spirit Club, Honor Roll, JLJWC
Cotillion, Newspaper, KUGR, Prom committee, FCA, and Young Life. Nick has accepted
a baseball scholarship at the University of Central Missouri.
Brady Smith
Brady’s parents are Lisa Smith and Richard and Judy Smith. He has played SMNW
basketball for 4 years and ran track for 2 years. Brady is a 4.0 Honor Roll Student and
a member of National Honor Society. Activities have included Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, Spirit Club and Sophomore Top 100. Next year, Brady will attend Kansas
State University.
