SPEAKER PROFILE
Dr. Michael Anganstiniotis, Medical Advisor, Thalassemia International Federation
Dr. Michael Anganstiniotis is currently the medical advisor at the Thalassemia International Federation and
the consultant – hereditary anemias at WHO. He has his degree in medicine from the University of Aberdeen
with a specialization in pediatrics from Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow. He has held the position of
Director in pediatrics at Nicosia with a background in practice in medical pediatrics from Dundee and Oxford.
He has worked very closely with the Cyprus Ministry of health in the thalassemia programme and helped
in creating policies for the country. He has authored many important books on the screening of
hemoglobinopathies and has over 40 publications to his credit. He is a member of varied scientific
associations in the field of pediatrics and thalassemias.
Dr. Ajit Golwilkar, Founder and Managing Director, Golwilkar Metropolis, Pune
Dr. Ajit Golwilkar is a practicing pathologist for the last 37 years in Pune. He is MD DCP with a meritorious
academic record. He is the founder of Golwilkar Laboratory and currently the Managing Director of Golwilkar
Metropolis Health Services. Dr. Golwilkar has always kept himself updated by continuously attending
workshops, updates and international meets since 1986. He has actively organized various meets, updates
and workshops for other fellow colleagues from the medical fraternity. He has delivered many lectures on
diverse medical topics for different medical fraternities and has several national and international publications
to his credit.
Dr. Rupesh Patel, Consultant Pathologist, Indian Red Cross Society, Ahmedabad
Dr. Rupesh Patel is currently the Consulting Pathologist at Thalassemia/Sickle cell prevention, control
and research programme, Indian Red Cross society, Ahmedabad. He has his MBBS from BJ Medical
College, Ahmedabad and MD in Pathology from NHL College, Ahmedabad. He has worked extensively
along with Indian Red Cross society at various stages of their screening programmes targeting the school
and college students and various high risk communities and tribal groups. His main focus area has been
in antenatal screening and prenatal diagnosis of sickle cell disorders and other hemoglobinopathies.
He has 4 publications to his credit.
