About ACECON
The Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) will be holding
the Fourth Asian Conference on Ecstasy in
Concrete on October 8-10, 2015 at Kolkata.
ICI, which is a premier organization in the sphere of
structural concrete in India, operates through 30
local centres and 85 student chapters spread
throughout the length and breadth of India. With
the objective of disseminating latest technical
advancements in concrete, ICI has been
conducting many national and international
technical events. Two principal international events
being held by ICI include the Innovative World of
Concrete (IWC) and Asian Conference on ecstasy
in concrete(ACECON).
The First ACECON was held in Begaluru in the
year 2000. After this, this event is being held at five
year interval second ACECON in 2005 in Mumbai
and third ACECON in 2010 in Chennai. The event
to be held in Kolkata is the fourth in the series.
Themes of ACECON 2015
Under the encompassing theme of Ecstasy in Concrete,
ACECON 2015 will focus on Recent Advancements in
Structural Concrete, covering innovative applications of
concrete in housing and infrastructure, latest innovations in
concrete and its ingredients, cutting edge research,
sustainability in fact all important avenues embracing the
design and construction of structural concrete.
ACECON 2015 will also have two Special Sessions on the
topic “Future of Concrete in Asia”.

About Kolkata
The History of Kolkata dates back to late seventeenth century.
While the archaeologists believe that the area has been inhabited
for over two thousand years, the documented history of Kolkata,
however, starts from the arrival of the British East India Company in
1690. The company, headed by Job Charnock, decided in view of
spreading its business in Bengal, to establish a city. Kolkata is known
for its literary, artistic, and revolutionary heritage; as the former capital of India, it was the birthplace of modern Indian literary and artistic
thought. Kolkata has been called the "City of Joy" as well as the "cultural [or literary] capital of India".
Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal, a state in the eastern region of
India having boundaries with neighbouring countries of Bangladesh,
Nepal and Bhutan. It was the capital of India till 1911.The city of
Kolkata, situated on the eastern bank of the river Ganges, can boast of
having most listed and recorded heritage buildings viz. the Victoria
Memorial, National Library, Shaheed Minar, Eden Gardens, Salt Lake
Stadium, Indian Museum-the oldest in India established in 1814,
Dakshineswar Temple etc. The river Hooghly is bridged by icon structures
to link the twin cities of Kolkata on the east and Howrah on the west. All
the bridges viz. Rabindra Setu (Howrah Bridge), Vidyasagar Setu (Second Hooghly Bridge), Nivedita Setu (Second Vivekananda Bridge),
Vivekanada Bridge are classic examples of bridge structures. The Science
city, the venue of the event, at a distance of about 16km from Netaji
Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, is also a place of major
attraction for all. One of the other major attractions around Kolkata is the
vast forest area of Sunderbans which is more or less 100 kms from the
city. Sunderban is the habitat of many flora & fauna. The most attractive
of the things is the sight of the Royal Bengal Tigers. The most pleasant
period for sight- seeing in Kolkata is mid October to December end.
About Science City
Science City, the largest science centre in the subcontinent, under the National Council of Science Museums (the apex body of science museums/centres in
India), consists of two facilities, the Science Centre and
the Convention Centre. The Science Centre complex
comprises Space Odyssey, Dynamotion, Evolution
Theme Park, Maritime Centre and a Science Park. The
Space Odyssey houses India’s first Large Format Film
Theatre, Time Machine, 3-D Vision Theatre, Mirror
Magic and exhibits on space science, motion, electricity
and virtual reality. The Dynamotion Hall has a Butterfly
Corner, Aquaria, an exposition on giant robotic insects
and host of interactive exhibits on science & technology
for both education and entertainment of the visitors.
The Convention Centre complex comprises
the Grand Theatre (2232 seating capacity), one Mini Auditorium (392 seating
capacity) and a Seminar hall building with 11 halls ranging from 15
to 100 seating capacity, indoor
(270sq.m.) and open air exhibition ground (20000 sq. m).
The auditoria’s and the seminar halls
are fully air-conditioned. The Convention Centre of Science City is the most
sought after destination for conventions, meetings, company AGMs and cultural programmes.
