OutDry technology achieves a fully waterproof, windproof and
January 09 - Press Release
OutDry® technology achieves a fully waterproof, windproof
and breathable laminated glove outershell.
Mountain Hardwear is the first outdoor brand to adopt it.
Thanks to the unique and patented OutDry lamination technology, rain, snow and
wind are blocked on the glove’s external surface, keeping hands dry and warm while
allowing greater breathability and
dexterity:
Extreme Waterproofing
– The waterproof/breathable membrane
is bonded to the shell, sealing the
stitching and any other water entry point.
This eliminates gaps between membrane
and shell where water can stagnate and
create a wet, cold sensation.
Windproof: Keeps hands warmer
– With OutDry® bonded membrane
technology, wind is blocked on the outer
surface. With conventional construction,
cold air can penetrate the exterior and fill
the space between shell and membrane,
reducing the thermal properties of the
glove.
Highly Breathable: Manages excess body vapor
– The OutDry® System prevents moisture build up between shell and membrane
which allows body vapour to easily push through the glove, keeping hands dry on the
inside.
Perfect Fit: Increased Dexterity
- Because the membrane is bonded to the shell, there is no floating insert sandwiched
between the shell and the glove’s inner lining that can slide around. This creates
greater dexterity and comfort for the user. Additionally, the bonded membrane leaves
more room for insulation without adding unnecessary bulk.
The US outdoor gear leader brand Mountain Hardwear introduces OutDry in its
FW09 Handwear collection: “We were so impressed with the superior performance of
the OutDry® lamination process that we chose to incorporate the technology into all
categories, Alpine, Backcountry and Snowear, as our premier waterproofing solution,
for a total of 13 new or updated OutDry® styles,” said Dan Ramos, product manager
for Accessories.

OutDry® waterproof/breathable technology continues to
grow in footwear markets
LAFUMA
The French leader of outdoor clothing and gear introduced OutDry two years ago with
a few styles. The market reaction has been so positive that the styles with OutDry
have increased season by season. Up to 18 styles are on tap for this FW09, covering a
range of use: Trail Running, Hiking, Mountaineering, Kid’s…
Lafuma R&D team makes brilliant work
exploiting the technical advantages of
OutDry
in the new collection. An example of
such
work is the Skyrace style (pictured): a
Trail Running shoe where weight was the
driving concept of the project.
The results is a unique lightness
combined with very precise foot control
thanks to the
exclusive Lafuma “X” construction
system and the patented “Twinlace”
lacing technology.
This shoe was selected by the ‘Sport2000-Vibram-OutDry Team’ to obtain a
fantastic third place at the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge last December 2008.
KAMIK
For this Canadian footwear manufacturer,
OutDry is the best waterproof solution for the
extreme conditions of the markets in Canada.
The styles featuring OutDry for the upcoming
FW09 season includes Shadow, a children’s
snowboot, and Snowpass, a trail
boot (pictured), which will be extensively
advertised at ISPO.

TREZETA
Just like many other hihg-end outdoor footwear brands, Trezeta has introduced
OutDry technology in its mountaineering collection.
OutDry is the technology adopted by Trezeta to guarantee waterproofness and high
breathability in eight top styles, like the Brix dom (pictured) and the last winter
season best-seller Idaho dom.
OutDry perfectly integrates
“Dry on move®” - Trezeta’s
proprietary system developed
to provide high ventilation to
the foot while walking.
In fact, since OutDry
membrane is directly laminated
on the inner side of the upper,
the volume of dry and fresh air
surrounding the foot is much
higher than with the standard
‘bootie’ system.
GRONELL
Gronell’s competence in alpine and
mountaineering products is undeniable and
has contributed to the development of OutDry
application in boots for extreme conditions,
like Himalayan climbs.
In particular, the collaboration of Gronell and
OutDry with Silvio Mondinelli (one of the
seven who have climbed all 14 highest
mountains on the earth without the use of
oxygen) have led to the creation of some of
the most technical high altitude boots on the
market.
The Gronell-OutDry line includes many
other hi-tech products like the new Annapurna,
the X-Failes (pictured), the ever-green
Fujilight and obviously the GII, adopted by the
best Himalayan climbers in the world.
