Redtail Hawk
This sealed float-activated level gauge features a unique dry-seal design making this unit superior
to other sealed level gauging systems. It can be relied upon to measure storage and production
tanks, with an 18 year production history and over 8000 units installed globally.
Design
The robust dry-seal design of the Redtail Hawk gauging system
utilizes two reels of cable separated by a pressure seal and fixed
to a common axle. One reel, on the sealed side of the gauge
head, is exposed to the tank process and attaches to the float.
The other reel attaches to the external gauge board indicator and
moves in unison with the tank-exposed reel. The integral sloped
channel to the tank connection allows condensation to drain
back into the tank, eliminating freezing risk.
Construction
Cast aluminum and stainless steel construction makes this
gauge head ideal for any process conditions, including high temperature, corrosive and sour gas environments. Available with
optional stainless steel float.
Flexibility
The Redtail Hawk gauge head can transmit level electronically
by attaching a Goshawk Transmitter. Performed before or after

Roadside Hawk
Using the same principles as the Redtail Model, the Roadside is a compact design suited for higher
pressure applications as well as underground tanks. The renowned Hawkeye durability and maintenance-free design are evident in this level gauge.
Design
The Roadside Hawk Gauge Head utilizes the same robust dryseal technology as the Redtail Hawk Gauge System, eliminating
downtime and maintenance associated with a leaking gauge
head. The same integral sloped tank connection channel as
found in the Redtail Hawk Gauge Head allows condensation to
drain back into the tank, eliminating freezing risk. Two different
Roadside Hawk Gauge Head system models are available, Standard (S) for use with a standard mechanical indicator, or Retractable (R), which does not require an external gauge board
indicator for operation, instead using a Goshawk Transmitter and
a precision balanced spring return mechanism, suitable for underground tanks.
Construction
Cast aluminum and stainless steel construction allow this unit to
operate in most process conditions including high temperature,
corrosive, sour gas. Due to the compact design, the Roadside

Sparrowhawk
When emission prevention and control are not required, the Sparrowhawk Model is the reliable,
economical choice. The compact and easy-to-install level gauge works on any size storage, production or mud tank.
Design
The close tolerances between the pulley and the housing prevent the cable from “jumping” off, a problem which has plagued
operators in the past. It is compact, simple to install and easy to
move from tank to tank.
Construction
Cast aluminum pulley and housing along with the stainless steel
shaft makes this a rugged and reliable gauge.
Flexibility
The Sparrow Hawk also comes with a 1-1/2 NPT connection,
and can be used on tanks from 3 to 80 feet

Connection Accessories
Hawkeye stocks several common connection accessories to ensure you can mate your Hawkeye
Gauge Head to most any tank connection.
Cam Lock Connections
Design
Cam Lock fittings are carried in sizes suitable for all Hawkeye
gauge heads. Using a Cam Lock connection on your gauge head
allows easy head installation, eliminating need to align the gauge
head, or spin it on -- useful in tight installations where there is no
room to turn the gauge head to engage threads. Cam Locks also
allow tool-less gauge head removal and reinstallation when moving or transporting a tank.
Construction
All Cam Locks are cast aluminum with machined threads and
brass cam handles. The parts are sealed with an integral Viton
gasket for sour service, Buna for standard service. Cam Locks
are supplied with a lockout to keep cams engaged. Other materials available upon request.

A gauge head is only one part of a complete tank level indication system, so Hawkeye offers everything required to complete the indication system, including floats and float guides, anchors, indicators and gauge boards with volume / height decals made to your specification.
Polyethylene Floats
The standard polyethylene float boasts integrated float guides
and cable. PE floats are molded from LLDPE material, and suitable for use up to 80°C. The resilient float is designed to work
in harmony with the Hawkeye Indicator, but can also replace
third-party floats.

floats for use with still wells, retractable gauge heads, or other
applications where there are close fits, or float guide kits are not
available. All stainless floats are 316L, and come with an integrated pigtail cable connection system. Horizontal floats also
come with float guides.
Float Guide Kits
Float guides cables run inside the tank and provide guide for the
float to run on, preventing wandering or twisting. The float guide
kit includes two cable locks, cable, and strap forks.

Severe Service Trim
The Severe Service Trim option provides exotic alloy cable and connections for long term reliable
use of Hawkeye Level indication systems in concentrated hydrochloric acid and other high chloride
ion applications.
Design
The Severe Service Trim (SST) option uses corrosion resistant alloys to replace wetted stainless steel components in the Hawkeye Float Guide Kit, Float Cable Assembly for use with the
Sparrowhawk and Model 750 / 750LS Gauge Heads, as well as
the Redtail and Roadside sealed gauge heads.
The major non-material difference between the SST and standard trim is the Severe Service Cable Termination (SSCT). The
SSCT replaces both the threaded stud and the strap fork terminations. Using a low-stress ball lock, the cable is held securly in
the barrel of the SSCT, keeping the cable free from kinking or
fraying, and eliminating the possibility of float or guide disconnection due to the cable breaking.
Above: Severe Service Cable Termination (SSCT) in Type A
(Stop) configuration.
Below: SSCT in Type B (Loop) configuration.
The SSCT can be used in two configurations, either as a stop for
attaching a float, or as loop for fixing float guide cables to attachment points on the floor of the tank.
Construction
All wetted cable and components of the float guide kit, float
cable assembly and gauge heads are made from an exotic alloy
developed in the nuclear industry specifically for superior corrosion resistance in acid and chloride applications. Non-wetted
components remain the same as in their standard counterparts.
Flexibility
The Severe Service Trim option is available for all sizes of Float

Level Indication > Zero Emission
Greyhawk
The Greyhawk Level Indication system provides an effective and economical way to directly gauge
level in knock-out or other horizontal tanks.
Design
The Greyhawk Level Indicator brings together the proven
Cooper’s Hawk level gauge with an integrated float and stillwell
for use on knock-out or other horizontal tanks. The gauge extends upward from the top of the tank, making it visible over
berms and other obstacles. This, coupled with a high visibility
red marker and high contrast background make the Greyhawk
gauging system a simple and effective method to gauge tank volume. The float and indicator are internally secured to the gauge,
making installation as simple as inserting the float guide tube
into the tank, and screwing the plug into the tank bung.
Construction
This system features the same durable aluminum, borosilicate
and teflon construction of the Cooper’s hawk gauge system with
resilient aluminum float guide tube, a molded polyethylene float
and polyethylene indicator.
Flexibility
The Greyhawk comes complete with the polyethylene float, 3 NPT
bung, and can be supplied for tanks with a diameter of 18” to
96”. Stainless Steel wetted components, including the float,
are available for corrosive or high temperature applications.

Skimmers > HDPE
Model 1200
The Model 1200 Floating Skimmer provides an effective non-metallic solution to skimming product from the surface of tank conents, regardless of the overall tank level.
Design
The Model 1200 consists of a custom made HDPE pontoon with
siphon and hose assembly slung underneath. The pontoon floats
on the liquid while ensuring the siphon is fully submerged just
under the surface. To guide the skimmer, the pontoon features
two pairs of guide holes through the web for guide cables. Using
float guide cables keeps the apparatus from floating around horizontally inside the tank, while still allowing full vertical travel.
The siphon inlets, set below the liquid level, draw product in to
the skimmer and direct it through a flexible hose to the tank outlet connection. Hose outlet connections are nominally 2 NPT,
but can be fit to most any kind of pipe or flange connection.
Construction
Above: Skimmer Pontoon (red) with siphon and hose hanging
below; shown with float guide cables passing through the
guide holes in the web.
Below: Skimmer Pontoon
The pontoon is and siphon are made from polyethylene; the pontoon from the same red LLDPE resin as our popular level indicating floats, and the siphon from black HDPE. The hose is a
flexible 2.5” ID PVC tube with a hard PVC helix for rigidity and
abrasion resistance, and is connected to the siphon and outlet
connection with stainless steel hose clamps. Hose connections
and flanges are carbon steel, standard.
Flexibility
Because the Model 1200 is a floating skim, it follows the liquid
level, ensuring that the product it draws off is always from the
top of the liquid column. The flexible hose used on the Model
1200 not only allows unimpeded travel of the skimmer pontoon,
but provides flexibility in placement of the skimmer in relation to
the desired hose outlet tank connection. For Model 1200 skim-

Vapor Control > Tank Relief Vent
Marsh Hawk TRV
The Marsh Hawk is a deep-set pressure and vacuum relieving vent for atmospheric tanks. With recessed seals for both pressure and vacuum relief, the Marsh Hawk resists freezing, providing reliable year-round operation.
Design
Both the pressure and vacuum seals are situated over 9” inside
the tank, using the intrinsic heat of the product to prevent the
vent internals from freezing. Pressure release settings are easily adjustable, from 2 ozsi to 16 ozsi (18 - 32 ozsi with double
weight spring), using proprietary pressure spacers. Flutter and
leaks are eliminated via guided spring and seal pallet. The removable internals allow for tank access and simplify seal maintenance.
Construction
Rugged stainless steel and aluminum construction make the
Marsh Hawk TRV perfect for sweet or sour gas applications.
Flexibility
The Marsh Hawk TRV is available with a variety of seal materials
and coatings to suit the vent to any application. Additionally, the
field-adjustable pressure relief setting makes the Marsh Hawk
TRV a flexible tank vent solution. The Marsh Hawk can replace
a thief hatch on an 8” API flange, and many mounting adapters
are available to suit other common tank connections. An optional pipe-away adapter is available to pipe vapors to containment or flare.

Manual Relief Option
The Manual Relief Option allows an operator to manually actuate the vent, relieving pressure in the tank to allow safe removal
of the spider cage internals. Additionally, manual actuation allows any accumulated condensation collected on the valve pallet to be drain back into the tank without having to rely on the
tank drawing vacuum.
The large mushroom button is connected to the vacuum disc via
a spring-loaded poppet. Pressing down on the button opens the
vacuum disc, allowing pressure to escape. The button and poppet are supported independently of the vacuum disc, and as
such do not affect the vacuum or pressure relief performance of
the vent.

Hard Anodized Option
For situations requiring improved corrosion resistance above the
standard Marsh Hawk, we offer a Hard Anodized Option. Anodizing is an electrochemical process which increases the thickness and durability of aluminum’s naturally occuring oxide layer.
All aluminum components of the vent, including the body and all
internals are anodized to meet MIL-A-8625F Type III Engineering
Hardcoat. The anodization slightly darkens the cast components, and adds a slight bronze colour to the machined components.
The anodized Marsh Hawk will exhibit improved resistance to
moderate saline, as well as acetic, boric & nitric acids. For prolonged exposure to concentrated brines, high-chloride ion content, or hydrochloric, sulphuric or other acids not listed here, it is
recommended the Severe Service Coated Option be used.

Severe Service Coating Option
For situations demanding the highest corrosion resistance compared to the standard and anodized offerings, consider the
Marsh Hawk with the Severe Service Coating Option.
The body and lid of the Marsh Hawk are coated in a red epoxy
material, providing resistance to strong mineral acids, including
hydrochloric, hydrofluoric and sulphuric acids, high chloride ion
solutions, inlcude aluminum chloride, potassium chloride and
brine solutions, as well as many organic compounds common in
the oilfield.
The internals of the Marsh Hawk are coated in a proprietary
black Teflon PFA material, providing the spidercage the same superb chemical resistance properties as Teflon .

Risers, Spools & Pipe-aways
Hawkeye offers Riser, Spool and Pipe-away System adapters to complement our vapor control
product line.
Hatch Risers
Hatch risers are used to mount Marsh Hawk TRV units to tanks
with sloped roofs. The riser accommodates the slope angle of
the roof, allowing the hatch to sit in an upright orientation, while
keeping the internals of the vent within the heat envelope of the
tank. The risers have 8” API mounting flanges on top and bottom, and a canted at the standard 12:1 roof pitch.
Adapter Spools
Adapter spools are used to mount a Marsh Hawk or TVTH to a

tank lacking the standard 8” API mounting pattern. The spool
height accommodates fastener installation, while keeping the
Marshhawk internals within the heat envelope of the tank. Common adapter spools include 8 and 12 150# ANSI, as well as the
API 18” and 22” oblong bolt patterns. Custom mounting patterns can be accomodated, call us for more information.
Below: Pipe Away with 4 150# ANSI Flange pipe connection
Pipe-away System
The Pipe-away system provides means to capture emissions from
a tank while still maintaining the pressure- and vacuum -relief
characteristics of a Marsh Hawk TRV. The Pipe-away System
sports a 4” 150# ANSI flange connection to pipe vapors away, in
addition to a 8” API flange at the top that can accommodate a
TVTH. The Pipe-away ships standard with a modified Marsh
Hawk, blind 8” API flange, gaskets and tank mounting hardware.
Construction
Risers, spools and pipe-away systems are welded carbon steel,
and coated with high temperature flat-black paint.

Mesh hats, gaskets and bolt kits to complete your tank relief vent installation..
Mesh Hats
These mesh hats fit on the Marsh Hawk body to keep debris and
wildlife out of the deep-set hatch cavity. Made from stainless
steel woven mesh, they are manufactured to snap onto the top
of the Marsh Hawk, and require no additional installation tools.
The mesh itself has a negligible impact on the venting performance of the Marsh Hawk thief hatch.
Tank Gaskets
Hawkeye provides this standard neoprene gasket that seals between the tank and the Marsh Hawk or TVTH. The standard gasket conforms to the 8” API 12B/F Thief Hatch bolting pattern,
although other sizes may be available. Contact us for more information.

Polyethylene & Pipeline > PE Fittings
Transition Fittings
Polyethylene to steel weld-end non-ID obstructed fittings are a convenient way to connect polyethylene pipe to steel pipe. Hawkeye Industries Inc.’s ID Controlled Transition Fitting are PE 100 standard, and offer a piggable alternative to traditional, non-ID controlled fittings.
Design
The transition fitting joint uses a combination of elastomeric
seals and significant interferences to ensure a leak-free design.
The joint, designed to be stronger than the polyethylene pipe,
exceeds pullout requirements of CSA B137.4-05. ID controlled
fittings boast a smooth transition from the polyethylene insidediameter to the steel inside-diameter. By eliminating the tubular
insert stiffener, and instead using the steel pipe itself the insert
stiffener, the non-obstructed inside diameter makes these fittings suitable for pigging.
Construction
The standard materials of construction are ASME A106 B for the
steel portion and PE47101 for the plastic portion. Hawkeye transition fittings are designed in consideration of CSA B137.4-05 &

RACI Casing Spacers
Innovative no-fastener RACI spacers isolate carrier pipes from casing pipe in a simple and cost-effective manner. The unique RACI design provides projections around the entire circumference of
the carrier pipe, and has no fasteners to scratch or mar the casing during installation.
Design
RACI spacers attach rigidly to carrier pipe to mechanically and
electrically isolate it from the casing pipe, eliminating the possibility of galvanic corrosion and coating abrasion due to dynamic
loading. Additionally, RACI spacers keep bell and spigot Joints
from sliding or resting on the casing, reducing wear on the carrier pipe. The RACI spacer itself is chemically resistant, and can
withstand significant thermal and mechanical stresses during
installation.

Wrap-Around End Seals
Flexible, durable and economical end seal solution.
Design
Hawkeye end seals are a versatile and cost effective method of
sealing casing ends. The end seals are designed to create a flexible seal over the casing pipe and may be installed even after
the carrier is installed.
Construction
End seals are made from 1/8 inch thick neoprene rubber for optimal chemical resistance and resilience. The seam is sealed by
two strips of butyl tape for ease of installation from an instant
bond and flexibility along the seam due to its non-hardening nature. The seal is secured to the pipes by stainless steel banding
with fully stainless steel worm gear clamps for extended life and
ease of installation as only a screw driver is required.

Tubing Drains
The Hawkeye Industries Inc. tubing drain significantly out-performs drains available today. The
pressure activated device, located near the bottom of the tubing string, allows oil and other sediments to flow from the tubing string, enabling safer, cleaner, and easier well maintenance.
Design
The Hawkeye Tubing Drain has both increased drain capacity,
and tensile strength relative to others on the market today, as a
result of the unique port configuration.
Construction
The EUE threads of the Hawkeye Tubing Drain meet fully API
Spec 5B - 1998 (2004), and the drain itself meets EUE Coupling
dimensions specified in API Spec 5CT - 2005. All drains come
with mechanical activation grooves, and generous bevels.
Flexibility
Tubing Drains are available in four EUE sizes (2-3/8, 2-7/8, 31/2 and 4-1/2 Tubing) and one of six (ten for 4-1/2) activation
pressures (based on number of shear screws used.) Additionally,
shear screws and seals are available as a spare-part replacement kit.
The Hawkeye tubing drain is unique in that it can be manually
activated. With the mechanical activation kit, a shop press is all
that is required to activate an intact drain.
Compatibility & Refurbishment
The shear screws used on the Hawkeye Tubing Drain are compatible with other drains that use brass shear screws. However,
the pressure sleeve is not interchangeable with other manufacturer’s drains. It is recommended that only Hawkeye parts are
used to repair or refurbish Hawkeye Tubing Drains.

Tubing Shear
The Hawkeye Tubing Shear is a box-by-pin tubing coupling used when release of the tubing string is
desired. The robust interlocking castelation design resists torque, and internal supports resist
compression, allowing the Tubing Shear to only activate in tension.
Design
The Hawkeye tubing shear allows the tubing string to be disconnected from packers and other equipment in single, dual and
stacked completions. The tubing shear sports an interlocking
castellation for torque resistance, eliminating any combined
loading on the shear screws that could affect activation force.
The geometry of the castelation, coupled with the high-strength
alloy, allow the tubing shear to easily resist and transmit the maximum P110 make-up torque. Additionally, the internal geometry of the tubing shear fully supports compressive loads. These
two features ensure that the tubing shear will only activate in
tension, never compression or torsion. Internal seals ensure the
tubing shear is a leak-free component of the tubing string.
The precision designed and manufactured brass shear screws
offer precise and repeatable activation forces.
Construction
The tubing shear body is manufactured from AISI 4140 Q&T alloy,
far exceeding the strength of P110 grade tubing. The shear
screws are manufactured from a proprietary brass alloy to ensure consistant and repeatable operation. Seals are FKM (Viton)
standard, with PTFE (Teflon) back-up rings. Tubing shears ship
with thread protection on male and female threads.

Dynamic Torque Anchor
The Dynamic Torque Anchor is a multi-lobe active-anchor no-turn tool designed to resist clockwise
rotation of the tubing string by anchoring it to the casing.
Design
The anchor consists of a one-piece alloy tube body with milled
pockets to carry the hardened anchor blocks. Each block is
spring energized to positively locate and dig in to the casing wall.
Additionally to the anchor block pockets, slots are milled to increase the bypass flow area.
Construction
The torque anchor body is manufactured from AISI 4140 HTSR
material meeting the mechanical requirements of API L80. The
drag blocks are a hardened alloy steel and the drag block carriers are cast steel. Springs and retaining screws are Inconel
X750 and 316 SS respectively.
Flexibility
The Dynamic Torque anchor is currently available in a 7.00 Casing x 3-1/2 EUE size with 5 anchor blocks, and a 5.50 Casing x

Shear Couplings
Hawkeye Industries Shear Couplings for Sucker Rods provide consistent tensile shear loads, while
not compromising the torsional strength of the sucker rod string.
Design
The Hawkeye Shear Coupling relies on two separate mechanisms
for tension and torque resistance. Shear pins, transverse
through the coupling provide consistent and repeatable shearing
in tension, while an integral square key -- the largest in the industry -- provides torque ratings far exceeding those of API Grade
D sucker rod.
Construction
The Box and Pin of the shear coupling are manufactured from
AISI 4340 HTSR material, with a proprietary high-quality steel

Production Equipment > Flow
Critical Flow Prover
The critical flow prover (CFP), uses principles of critical, adiabatic, frictionless compressible flow to
provide means to determine flow rate by measuring only upstream pressure and temperature. The
rugged design of the Hawkeye Industries critical flow prover ensures accurate, repeatable results.
Design
The critical flow prover consists of a cylindrical body with a honed
2.00in. ID. The upstream end has a 2 NPT male connection, and
the outlet end has a sealed recess suitable for a 0.25 in. thick
orifice plate, which is retained with a knurled end cap. The critical flow prover comes complete with two taps, a 1/4 NPT and a
1/2 NPT, approximately one-diameter upstream of the orifice.
For operation and technical information, please refer to the Critical Flow Prover Technical Bulletin, document TB-0607-CFP.
Construction
The body and cap of the critical flow prover are manufactured
from carbon steel, plated with zinc dichromate for corrosion resistance. Standard viton seals in the orifice plate recess ensure
leak-free operation and are suitable for use in a wide array of
gaseous environments.
Flexibility
The critical flow prover provides meaningful results over a wide
range of upstream / downstream pressure ratios. Empirically,
the flow of natural gas exiting the orifice will be critical when the
exit pressure is 56% (or less) of the upstream pressure, and the
orifice diameter is 60% (or less) of the upstream diameter.
Technical Information
Please refer to the following technical bulletins, available on our
website, for usage information regarding the critical flow prover.
