This fun event is open to all sailboat racers whether you're a novice or experienced sailor in any sized vessel. The handicap rating system allows boats of all types and sizes to race together. Our awesome Midland Bay Sailing Club race committee ensures the event is smooth sailing for everyone. We were very proud of our skilled Bay Port boaters who took the trophy home as top Parkbridge finisher last year, taking the title from our sister marina who has held it for years. We're encouraging everyone to keep it here. Gather your crew (remember you need at least one male and one female crew onboard) and sign up today in the office. Refer a friend and you both benefit We believe the experience you have makes the best sales tool so we’ve introduced the 20/20 Parkbridge Advantage Incentive program. It’s the perfect way to share the news about Bay Port in the Heart of Georgian Bay. All you need to do is refer a friend or relative (who isn't currently a Parkbridge customer) and when they rent a slip at any of our Parkbridge Marinas you receive a cheque or credit for 20% of their dock rental. As a bonus they receive 20% off their dockage! We all know boating is just more fun with friends so spread the word and save -- we’d love to reach half a million dollars in referral credits! Don't forget about our photo contest! See page 4 for details Give us your best shot to win great prizes! Spring/Summer 2015 Issue Boating Life Magazine 23 Bay Port Midland Experience the Bay Port Difference BAY PORT Scott Cain General Manager Make 2015 your year to explore Georgian Bay. Sure you enjoy weekends away at Beausoleil Island but there is an entire bay waiting to be discovered – about 15,000 square kilometres actually. With endless nooks and crannies, large islands and small, secluded bays and social settings you could boat for years and never stay in the same place twice, and never be bored. American boaters completing the Loop that takes them through the Great Lakes, inland rivers and Intercoastal Waterway of the United States all the way to Florida and back put a lot of miles on their vessels but they all agree the absolute best part of the entire Loop is Georgian Bay. We're so fortunate that this is our home cruising grounds. Roll out your charts (or your GPS) and pick a new destination. Go where you've never been before and take someone with you. We're happy to help! Come in to the office and see me for some suggestions and amazing anchorages to try out. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for regular updates to “Scott's Picks” as I help you chart a course for a new dream destination. After two years in a row of solid ice coverage we are enjoying stable water levels so this is an excellent year to really get out and enjoy exploring the Heart of Georgian Bay. 22 Boating Life Magazine Spring/Summer 2015 Issue YACHTING CENTRE Not sure where to start? Sign up for one of our guided excursions where expert staff and seasoned boaters help you every step of the way. Boating really is more fun with friends! Sign up for our Family Flotilla which is a super shake-down weekend for the boat at the end of May. The kids will be swimming and will make new friends for the summer. Along with Mike Sweet from Bay Moorings I'll be hosting our Sailboat Rendezvous over the July long weekend. There's still room on our first Powerboat Rendezvous in July and I'll be back at the helm for the second Powerboat Rendezvous in August heading to Parry Sound. If you've been dreaming all winter of a new boat then plan to attend our Georgian Bay In-Water Boat Show right here at Bay Port June 5-7. Over 100 new and used boats will be ready to welcome you aboard, there will be 40 vendors, live entertainment, wakeboard shows and the popular Kidz Zone. Last year's event was amazing and we thank all of our boaters who moved slips to accommodate the show and help make it such a tremendous success. This year's show helps launch 2015, our year of exploration. See you on the water! Please use them. Need a new dinghy? See our selection and check out the entire line-up of new 2015 Mercury Inflatables and outboard motors. We are Simcoe County's only full line Mercury dealer and Bay Port Yachting Centre is the area's largest dealer. Harris & Ellis Yachts Set sail for social fun New friends and old friends make boating better. Our Sailboat Rendezvous is one of the highlights of the season and is a wonderful way to explore Georgian Bay. Again this year we plan to kick off the trip with a wine and cheese at Bay Moorings the evening before our departure. We'll gather at the red can in Penetanguishene Bay before sailing up to Twelve Mile Bay where we are looking forward to creating a record setting raft of sailboats. Weekend activities will of course include the pancake breakfast and potluck dinner we all love along with a dinghy rally and kids fishing derby – who will haul in the biggest fish this year for bragging rights for the season? There's always lots of spontaneous fun as well (can you say waterfight?). The beauty of the rendezvous is you can be as busy or as relaxed as you wish. Sit back and enjoy the scenery or climb aboard for all the activities. Please reserve your spot by signing up in the office so we can plan ahead! HARBOUR WEST MARINE TRANSPORT You will notice some changes at our gas docks as we install new larger capacity state-of-the-art above ground fuel tanks. These environmentally friendly tanks remove the risk of in-ground contamination and damage to our beautiful Georgian Bay. The large capacity will help provide fast, efficient service to serve you better. Once the fuel tank installation is complete we will start our south road paving project to reduce dust and help with parking. It's all part of our continued commitment to maintain and upgrade every aspect of your experience at Bay Port. We now offer dockside pump-out where available to avoid the inconvenience of heading to the gas dock if you don't need fuel. See Patti in the office to discuss the fee if this service can be accommodated at your slip. Trailer Storage As we continue to refurbish, clean up and work towards creating an enjoyable and safe resort setting we are changing our trailer storage options and fee structure. Our innovative rack trailer storage system helps preserve your tires and is now complete and ready for use. You can opt for these off the ground racks to the west of our drystack building, put your trailer in our outdoor storage coral or choose our off-site secure indoor storage where your trailer will be out of the weather and ready for your use with a day's notice. As we work towards our clean safe goal, please help us by clearly identifying your trailer and seeing us in the office to let us know your storage choice. BAY PORT YACHTING CENTRE Remember to recycle Let's preserve our pristine bay one bottle and can at a time. At Bay Port we are committed to the environment and value our Clean Marine rating. We encourage all our boaters to separate their recyclables from their garbage and dispose of them in the recycling bin, conveniently located on your way out of the marina. Or, we remind all boaters that our dock runners are happy to pick up your garbage and recyclables at your boat, just ask. We encourage you to get in the habit of recycling today, for a cleaner tomorrow. Battery recycling Let's keep harmful chemicals out of the landfill by recycling batteries. Bring in your used household batteries (AA, AAA, 9V etc) to the office for recycling. Waste oil Attention do-it-yourselfers: remember we have a used oil container beside the travel lift area so after an oil change please dispose of used fuel filters and oil safely and properly. M. To help preserve our relaxed, resort-like environment and to increase safety we ask you to use this route to access the north side of the marina. This helps divert traffic from the pool and gazebo area and reduces traffic flow in front of the busy drystack launching area making it safer for everyone. Thanks for your help! We appreciate everyone's efforts to make Bay Port a relaxing and safe escape from the every day. Drystack Our industry-leading drystack storage is immensely popular and fills up fast. One way to secure your spot is to book your space for year round storage then you'll never be left out in the cold. As we continue to sell out during the summer season, booking year round space also saves you money. We are now able to accommodate larger vessels – please come in to the office to discuss your needs. Now turn your dreams into reality at the Georgian Bay In-Water Boat Show. What started out as a small idea to get people interested in boating turned into so much more. Last year's inaugural event was an awesome weekend – Mother Nature delivered superb weather, boats were sold, slips were rented and people got out on the water. We want to introduce even more people to the boating lifestyle at this year's show June 5 to 7 at Bay Port Yachting Centre. We're excited with the show's new name that reflects its own successful identity. Presented by Parkbridge Marinas, Pride Marine, Crate's Lake Country Boating and our lead sponsor MD Marine Experts this year we have over 40 vendors at the Mariner's Marketplace, more than 100 new and used boats for sale, interactive shows, live entertainment, food and beverage tent all weekend, live fishing demos, the Muskoka Wake wakeboarding show, a school contest and an educational component. For details go to www.inwaterboatshow.ca Parkbridge Marinas Heart of Georgian Bay Here's a friendly reminder for all boaters Looking for adventure and new skills? What's in a name? Lots! Everyone in Canada requires a pleasure craft operator card (PCOC) or proof of competency to operate any powered craft and the PCOC must be carried while operating any powered craft – whether the engine is on or not. For full details, including what to do if you have lost your card, consult Transport Canada's website www.tc.gc.ca. On board you also need to carry: A copy of your vessel license if it is powered by more than a 9.9 HP engine. A valid fishing license if you are actively engaged in fishing. And of course all safety equipment for the size and type of vessel is required at all times. So even if you're just 'heading out for a few minutes' or zipping in to shore, be prepared. American residents must carry whatever is legally required in their place of residence. If they are in Canada for more than 44 days they will require a PCOC. Those renting a vessel will be required to complete a rental safety checklist which is a substitute for proof of competency but is only valid for the rental period. What are you going to do? Why not let your Parkbridge Marina give you a guided tour along the Small Craft Route. It is our commitment to you to help you every nautical mile of the way. Over the year we host four Rendezvous trips; the first is May 29t-31. This is our Family Rendezvous. We know it is important to have your kids meet other kids and this is a great opportunity to do so. The second is our Sailboat Rendezvous held June 27 to July 1. This takes the participants up to 12 Mile Bay. Moving into summer, July 9-2 we have our first Power Boat Rendezvous. This year we will head to Parry Sound and then onto Port Rawson. On August 13-16 we host our second Power Boat Rendezvous. We will take you up to Killbear Park area and then to Port Rawson for some relaxation. Prior to the cruise we will get together as a group to ensure that you have the proper charts and we assist you in marking them. Along with this we will help you prepare a repair kit should you require an impeller or fuel filter along the way. These cruises do a number of things from meeting new friends, seeing different parts of Georgian Bay and learning how to navigate the Small Craft Route. Once we get anchored or docked we always host a gathering of some sort or a dinghy excursion. By the time the cruise is over you will have made many new friends and memories. We find after the Rendezvous happen that people will start to go out on their own from the confidence they got from the trip and in speaking with their “new” boating friends. Please contact your Marina office for more information. We hope to see you there. When you fuel up at a Parkbridge Marina rest assured you are receiving non-ethanol fuel. The engine, fuel lines and tankage in your boat was not designed to run on ethanol. Ethanol fuel has been proven to attract moisture in your fuel tank in some cases have a detrimental effect on your fuel lines and tanks. A few precautions can prevent an unnecessary breakdown. Buy a fuel-testing kit: when using an ethanolblend gasoline use a test kit to ensure the level of ethanol is at or below 10 percent. Marine engines are not designed to run on gasoline with higher than 10 percent ethanol. Use fuel stabilizer and conditioner: stabilizers help delay 'phase separation'. Add a quality fuel stabilizer and conditioner (without alcohol) to the tank every time it is filled and before seasonal lay-up. Change your filters: install a 10-micron rated water/fuel separator filter a nd change it every 50 to 100 running hours. Add a carbon cleaner: Reduce the possibility of rusting, piston-ring sticking and carbon build-up by adding carbon cleaner to the fuel tank each time gasoline is added. Storage: Avoid storing gasoline in a tank for more than 90 days when possible. Looking for ways to put money in your pocket and extend your boating budget? Parkbridge Marinas Rendezvous Parkbridge Marinas Ethanol So you have made the first step and moved to Georgian Bay with your boat but you haven’t made it past Beausoleil Island. American boaters completing the Loop that takes them through the Great Lakes, inland rivers and Intercoastal Waterway of the United States all the way to Florida and back put a lot of miles on their vessels but they all agree the absolute best part of the entire Loop is Georgian Bay.
