Message from the Mayor
Lethbridge enjoys the advantage of being uniquely situated near the majestic Rocky Mountains and the U.S.-Canadian
border. The landscape is extremely beautiful and our weather is temperate. Our summers are not too hot and our
winters are generally mild.
The Old Man River runs through Lethbridge, and the adjacent ‘coulees’ provide a striking counterpoint to the
surrounding prairie landscape. Our urban forests and green spaces are second to none, making the city a prairie oasis.
Our citizens are friendly, and a trip to Lethbridge is an experience to be savoured. Visitors will encounter the beauty of
our river valley and the century-old High Level Bridge, an awe-inspiring structure. Visit our art galleries, the Nikka Yuko
Japanese Gardens, Fort Whoop Up, the Helen Schuler Centre or the Galt Museum and you’ll find diverse, culturally-rich
experiences. Our network of parks, trails and recreation facilities provide abundant opportunities to enjoy natural beauty

We are also home to two premiere educational facilities, the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College, both of

• The spectacular chandelier in the grand ballroom of the Coast Lethbridge Hotel & Conference
Centre was originally shipped from Czechoslovakia in early 1960. It must be polished piece by
piece and the entire cleaning process takes three days to complete.
• All the original tropical plants in the atrium of the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel & Conference Centre
came from Florida – many of them are over 30 years old with the tallest plant reaching 37 feet.
• Over the summer months of 2012, the front entrance area of the Holiday Inn was renovated
and incorporated 12.5 tonnes of rocks!
• The ceiling in the ballroom of the Coast Lethbridge Hotel & Conference Centre is art deco and
the only one of its kind in a southern Alberta hotel.
• The Holiday Inn Lethbridge has 24 solar panels on the roof. These panels assist the hotel with
heating the 12,000 square foot pool and pre-heating water available in the boilers. 90% of this
solar energy goes towards the 325,000 litres of water in Mariner’s Cove Water Park & Wave
Pool, the hotel’s on-site swimming facility.
• The cast light standards in the courtyard of the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel & Conference Centre
were originally gas lanterns from England. They were purchased and shipped overseas from
England to Lethbridge. The gas lamps were taken off and replaced with copper lanterns with
incandescent bulbs.
• The Holiday Inn has welcomed celebrity guests including: Robin Williams, Jason Aldean, The
Wiggles, Reba McIntyre, Johnny Reid and the 2011 World Junior Czech Republic hockey
team.
• Justin Trudeau attended the Liberal Party of Canada AGM held at the Sandman Hotel
Lethbridge in 2010. He stayed overnight at the hotel and staff described him as charming and
gracious, with a great sense of humour.
