Our Road to Freedom
ScheduleofServices
forApril2015
Chaverim,
When I look at the calendar for the month of April I see a path carved for
us to freedom. We start with Passover on the evening of April 3rd, when we begin
our journey into the wilderness. Our ancestors had to find the courage to leave
behind all that they had known for 400 years and embark on a perilous flight of
the unknown. We are taught that during this holy time of the year, we Jews align
ourselves with our ancient people as if we too were there – escaping through the
Sea of Reeds and beginning the journey to Mt. Sinai to meet our G!d. In order to
meet G!d within us, we need to clear ourselves of all the impediments to freedom.
This is a time to look deep within and let go of anything that is holding us back
from being free. Through prayer, meditation, a walk out in nature, or any other
way you have discovered that calms your spirit, you can identify what is stopping
you from following your path to Mt. Sinai. Reb Nachman of Breslov always used
to say, “Know! A person walks in life on a very narrow bridge. The most important thing is not be afraid.” (LM 11:48)
As we move through the month and the years of our lives, we encounter
the reality of the Holocaust and we remember. Yom Hashoah is on April 16 and
our community will commemorate it in a beautiful service of remembrance on
April 19 at FIT at 2 pm. Holocaust Survivor Gene Klein will share with us his family’s story. Out of the ashes of the Holocaust and the letting go of that nightmare
of fear, the State of Israel was formed. Join us at Temple when we celebrate its
birth on Friday Night April 24th with the music and dance of Yisrael!
It is a month of journeying. It does seem like our people are always walking a path that is oft times perilous. The Anti-Semitism that has flared up in our
world reminds us to never forget and to work towards the day when our world
will be one and at peace.
Walk with me this month. Be part of a community of Jews who walk forward in the light of G!d.
Ray, Jenny, Gabrielle, Rob and I wish each of you a Zissen Pesach, a Sweet
Passover!!
Chag Sameach,
Rabbi Pat

WOMEN OF TEMPLE ISRAEL SISTERHOOD
President’s Message
The good news is that I was overwhelmed by the response to help at the Jewish Festival. Thanks to MAXINE LAUER,
JOY INVENTASCH, CAROL ROBERTS, BOBBI RODRIGUEZ, ROSE SCHOENFELD, BERNICE HABERMAN,
IRENE ABRAMOWITZ, NANCY McGINLEY, EILEEN PHINICK, TRUDY HORKIN, DIANA LANDO, and LYNNE
TUTTLE, I had company and workers from start to finish. I especially have to thank LYNNE for the hours she spent with
me organizing and pricing Judaica items for sale, and schlepping them to the auditorium and back to the Temple. Thanks
also to everyone who donated items. I don’t know everyone who left their beautiful Judaica for us in the Temple office,
except for PATTY SIEGEL, who was our Purim “Santa Claus”. And, my “thank you” list is not complete without acknowledging JOY, NANCY, LYNNE and DIANA for chocolate-coating 100+ pretzel rods.
The bad news is that the Festival was poorly attended, and, while we didn’t lose money, our profit was shoe-string thin.
2015 - MARK YOUR CALENDARS & SAVE THE DATES:
May 8: Sisterhood Shabbat
October 28: 3rd Annual Mah Jongg Tournament
Stay tuned for other events.

MEMBERS OF TEMPLE ISRAEL
HONOR OR REMEMBER A LOVED ONE…
CELEBRATE A BIRTHDAY OR ANNIVERSARY…
WELCOME THE SABBATH…
OR
JUST FOR THE “MITZAH” OF IT
Dear Congregant:
As you may know, Sisterhood pays for all Onegs not sponsored by a loved one. This deprives you of the mitzvah of celebra ng someone you love, and reduces the amount of money which Sisterhood would otherwise have to help support the
Temple.
Cheryl Mendelsohn is Sisterhood’s Oneg coordinator. She wants to help you find the perfect Friday night to commemorate
the important events in your life.
All that is needed is a challah, 3 or 4 trays of “goodies” (fruit, cheese, crackers, cookies, cake…). Just bring everything to the
Temple kitchen before services begin. Kyle will help with the set-up, put out soL drinks and make coffee.
We hope that each family will sponsor at least one Oneg, but there is no limit. Sponsor two, three, or more, or share the
honor with friends.
Choose a date and call Cheryl, 321-693-5030. Have an alternate date in case your first choice has already been reserved.
HERE’S HOW TO GET THE CREDIT WITHOUT DOING ANY WORK!
Reserve your date, and send $40.00 to Women of Temple Israel.
We do the shopping; you get the sponsorship credit.
*(Special orders may increase your cost)
