In 1895 experimentation with the automobile began in Auburn.
Soon automobiles were being manufactured in Auburn, Butler,
and Garrett. Sometimes called “Little Detroit”, Auburn was the
home of many evolving car companies. The buildings of the
prestigious Auburn Automobile Company (National Historic
Landmarks) currently house two of the county’s major automotive
museums.
DeKalb County is also home to the world famous Auburn Cord
Duesenberg Festival, where every Labor Day weekend owners
of these classic cars return for their annual reunion and parade.
Also held that same weekend are two world renowned Classic
Car Auctions. These three events bring in over 250,000 people
each year.
We invite you to visit and enjoy our many other festivals and
events throughout the county, or stroll along our quiet streets and
browse the specialty and antique shops.
