Schedule of Events
November 1st - Christmas in the Bight Craft Fair at the Kinsmen Community Centre from
9:00am – 4:00pm.
November 2nd - Torbay Community Skate. Torbay residents are invited to a community skate at the
Northeast Avalon Regional Arena from 3:00pm – 3:50pm. Helmets and parent supervison are required.
Sponsored by the WinterLights Committee.
November 1st – 14th - Community Coats for Kids Please drop off any gently used coats to the Town Hall.
They can be placed in a blue container at the Town Hall (upstairs).
November 5th - St. Nicholas Church Auction
November 5th - Guy Fawkes Night will be held behind the Torbay Town Hall from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. This
event will be supervised by our Torbay Volunteer Fire Department with the Ladies Auxiliary serving hot
chocolate.
November 5th - “Light it Right, Make it Bright” Pledge sheets will be available at the Town Hall. See page
7 of the newsletter for more details.
November 6th - High School Heritage Fair.
November 10th - Christmas Card Competition Deadline. This competition is open to Grade 4, 5 and 6
students. Submissions must include a pencil drawing and a colored drawing with your
full name, address, age and phone number printed on the back of your drawing. Please mail your entry to
Town of Torbay, P.O. Box 1160 Torbay, NL A1K 1K4 or drop it off to the Torbay Town Hall to the attention
of Tina Auchinleck-Ryan (Supervisor of Recreation & Healthy Living).
November 11th - Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Torbay Veteran's Memorial Site beginning at 11:00
am sharp.
November 12th - Breakfast with Santa Tickets go on sale at the Torbay Town Hall, during regular office
hours. Tickets are $4.00 each. Event to be held on December 6th.
November 15th - St. Nicholas Fall Sale and Pot Luck supper, doors open 2:30pm.
November 20th - Deadline for registering for November 23rd Christmas Decorating Workshop.
November 21st - Torbay Elementary School Skate and Pictures with Santa. The grades one and two students
of Holy Trinity Elementary have been invited for a skate and pictures with Santa at the Northeast Avalon
Regional Arena from 10:45 – 11:45am. Helmets are required. Sponsored by the Department of Economic
Development/Tourism and WinterLights Committee.
November 22nd - Children's Card Making at the Kinsmen Community Centre beginning at 10:30am for
children 5 – 9yrs of age. Children will make two homemade Christmas Cards and a Gift Bag for $5.00 per
child. Pre-registration is required by November 21st. Please call 437-6532 ext. 226.
November 23rd - Decorating Tips for a Mantle Piece and Making an Indoor Wreath. Teaching this class
will be decorators of the Dream Home, Maxine Tucker and Deanne Aylward. This class will be held at the
Kinsmen Community Centre and begin at 2:00pm. Registration is mandatory and pre-payment of $ 40.00 is
required by November 20th. Instructors will purchase all materials needed for the class. Please remember
you will be leaving this class with a professionally decorated finished piece.
November 27th - Adult Christmas Card Making. Join us at the Kinsmen Community Centre at 8:15 pm to
make three homemade Christmas Cards and three tags with instructor Shelly Patten. Cost
$10.00, this includes all materials, and refreshments. To register please call 437-6532 ext. 226.
November 27th - North Pond Home Bingo. In partnership with The Women’s Institute.
November 28th - Holy Trinity High School Skate for grades 7, 8 and 9 students. 10:45am - 11:45am.
November 29th - Children's Ornament Making at the Kinsmen Community Centre beginning at 10:30am.
This is for children 7 – 12yrs. We will be making two cards and an ornament. To register please call 4376532 ext 226. Pre-registration is required by November 28th. Cost is $5.00 per child.
November 30th - Community Skate at the Northeast Avalon Regional Arena from 3:00 - 3:50 pm, for parents
and children ages 12 and under. Helmets are mandatory. Admission is a non-perishable food item.

December 1st - “Light it Right, Make it Bright” All money and pledge sheets are to be returned to the Town
Hall. Please refer to page 7 of the newsletter for more details.
December 3rd - The 50 Plus Annual Christmas Dinner and Dance. To purchase a ticket or for more
information please call 437-1807.
December 5th - Christmas at Liddys for Seniors. This will begin at 1:00 pm. This event has been made possible
by Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator Paula Burke of North Pond Home and Liddys Lounge.
December 6th - Breakfast with Santa beginning at 9:00am at Holy Trinity High School. Entertainment by Sonya
Abbott. Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, November 12th at the Town Hall. Cost is $4.00 admission.
There will be no tickets available at the door.
December 7th - Santa Claus Parade. First ever evening time parade! We will be lining up at Quigley’s Lane and
proceeding onto Torbay Road to the Kinsmen Community Centre. The parade will begin at 4:30 pm sharp and
will follow with the Tree Lighting Ceremony beginning at 6:00 pm sharp at the Town Hall. To enter a float
please call Karen McGrath at 437-6473.
December 7th - Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at Torbay Town Hall, beginning at 6:00pm. There will be
entertainment by the High School Band, Reading of the Night Before Christmas, Hot Chocolate, and the lighting
of our Christmas Tree.
December 7th - Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast with Santa. This will take place at 11:00am. For more
information, please call Leo Galway at 437-6367. All are welcome. No Charge.
December 7th - Christmas Party for the Special Needs, will take place in the basement of the Torbay Fire Hall
from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. Sponsored by the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department and the Torbay Fire Department
Ladies Auxiliary.
December 7th - Holy Trinity Parish Christmas at the Home for Seniors. Join Father Butler from
2:00pm - 5:00pm.
December 10th - Holy Trinity Elementary Grades 1 and 2 School Concert. 7:00pm. Tickets at the door.
December 12th - Seniors Dinner and Dance. If you are 65 + and a resident of Torbay you are invited to a free
dinner and dance at the Kinsmen Community Centre. Pre-registration is required as there is limited seating. You
must register by November 21st by calling 437-6532 ext 226. Sponsored by the Town of Torbay.
December 14th - Outdoor Wreath Making with Ross Traverse. Join us at the Torbay Fire Hall from
6:00 – 8:00pm to learn how to make an Outdoor Christmas Wreath. Pre-registration is required by calling
437-6532 ext. 226. Cost for this event will be $ 5.00 per person. All materials will be supplied. Hot Chocolate
to be served.
December 15th - Judging of the Holy Trinity Elementary Bulletin Board Competition. The students of Holy
Trinity Elementary School have been hard at work participating in a Holiday Bulletin Board Competition.
Students participating have to decorate classroom bulletin boards using recycling materials and showing us how
creative they can be.
December 15th - Volunteer Appreciation and Networking Event. Hosted by the Town of Torbay.
December 15th - Pre-school crafts and stories. 10:00am at the Torbay Library. Call 437-6532 ext. 226 to
register.
December 16th - Holy Trinity Elementary Grades 5 and 6 Christmas Musical. Begins 7:00pm at Holy Trinity
Elementary School Gymnasium . All Welcome. Admission $ 3.00. Tickets are available at the School Office.
December 18th - Seniors Bus Tour. If you are interested in taking a bus ride through Torbay to view the
Christmas lights please call 437-6532 ext. 226. We will begin picking up interested residents at 5:30 p.m.
December 19th - Holy Trinity High School Breakfast, beginning at 7:30 am. You can drop by the school for a
light breakfast and all donations go to the Food Bank.
December 24th - Holy Trinity Church Service at 8:00pm and Midnight.
December 24th - St. Nicholas Parish Service at 7:00pm and 9:00pm.
December 25th - Holy Trinity Church Service at 10:00am.
December 31st - Holy Trinity Church Service at 5:00pm.
January - Feburary
Schedule of Events
January 1st - New Years Day Skate at the Northeast Avalon Regional Arena. 2:00pm – 2:50pm will be for
Torbay residents, specifically parents and children ages 12yrs and under. Helmets are required.
January 1st - New Years Day Skate for Torbay residents ages 13 and over from 3:00pm - 3:50pm, at the
Northeast Avalon Regional Arena. Helmets are required.
January 1st - New Years Day Skate for Torbay residents 35+ from 4:00pm - 4:50pm at the Northeast
Avalon Regional Arena.
January 4th - Torbay Community Skate for parents and children ages 12 yrs and under, from
3:00pm - 3:50pm at the Northeast Avalon Regional Arena. Helmets are required.
January 15th - Christmas Tree recycling. For more information please call the Town Hall.
February 1st - Winter Festival Kick Off. Torbay Council & Staff, versus OZ FM and NTV Staff in a
Recreational Hockey Game. The NTV-OZ Apaches are a well-known hockey team, which have played all
over the province for many charities. They stand undefeated, that goes back for years. (Source the NTV
NEWS). The team has plenty of talent with stars like Fred Hutton of the NTV Evening News, Mark Dwyer
from On The Mark, Dan Lake the man from behind the Camera evening weather NTV News, Bill Orr from
OZ-FM radio, Morning news Larry Jay from the OZ FM Dawn Patrol, along with members from production
staff and operation staff from the stations. Coach is Danielle Butt. The NTV-OZ Apaches look forward to
taking on the Torbay Crushers. This will take place at the Northeast Avalon Regional Arena from 3:00pm 3:50pm. Admission will be a non-perishable food item or $2.00 per person. Come watch the game, children
can have their face painted and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.
February 3rd - Seniors Tea and entertainment. Sponsored in partnership with the WinterLights Committee
and North Pond Manor, (Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator Paula Burke). Beginning at 2:30pm at the
Kinsmen Community Centre.
February 4th - Card Game and refreshments beginning at 7:30pm at the Kinsmen Community Centre.
Sponsored by the Fifty Plus Group and hosted by Citizen of the Year Jerri Pellegrinetti.
February 7th - Parent and Child Valentine Card Making and Craft. Pre-registration is required by calling
437-6532 ext. 226 by February 4th.
February 8th - Community Sliding and Candy Cane Hunt at Upper Three Corner Complex,
Bauline Line, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Join us for an afternoon of family fun. Sponsored by the Torbay
Volunteer Fire Department.
February 10th - Adult Scavenger Hunt - Details to be announced.
February 14th - Community Pancake Breakfast at the Kinsmen Community Centre from
9:00 am - 10:00 am. Free to residents. Pre-registration is required.
February 14th - Senior Jiggs Dinner and Local Entertainment at the Kinsmen Community Centre, from
3:00 pm - 5:00pm. Tickets must be booked in advance and will be available beginning January 26th. Call
437-6532 ext. 226 for more information. This initiative will be hosted by the 50+ Group, Citizen of theYear
Jerri Pellegrinetti and Paula Burke, Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator.
February 14th - Fire Works will take place from the Torbay Beach. Time of Fireworks will
be announced on sign entering into the Town.
February 15th - Ice Fishing - Details to be announced.

Get into the Festive Season Early! Let’s See Who Got What It Takes!
Join in the Neighborhood Christmas
Wreath Door Challenge
All you have to do is place a wreath on your Front Door. It can be very simple or creative,
The WinterLights Committee is hoping that residents of Torbay will join us in showing
their community spirit. Volunteer judges will drive through the town on Monday,
December 15th to see which neighborhood has shown the most community spirit.
Judges will announce the winner on December 15th. Remember you can work
together and share your creativity!
Best Decorated House
Competition Is Back Again!
The 2008 Judging will take place on December 12th and will be announced
by our National WinterLights Judges on December 15th. There will be three
winners and you will be judged on creativity, themes and lighting.
Christmas Card Competition
This competition is open to the Grade 4, 5 and 6 students of Holy Trinity Elementary
School. Students will design and submit a card reflecting Christmas and what Torbay
means to them. Deadline for submission is November 10th, 2008. The winner’s
submission will serve as the Town’s official Christmas Card for 2008 and will receive
recognition on the back cover of the card. The winner will also receive a $100 gift
certificate.
Holy Trinity High School
Classroom Door Competition
Students will use their creativity to create a holiday classroom door. Judges will tour the school and view
classroom doors on December 16th.
Holy Trinity Elementary School
Bulletin Board Competition
Students will be working hard on a Holiday bulletin board using only recycling materials.
Judging will take place on December 15th.
