It is my honor and privilege to join you for the premier greater Olean area social
fundraising event. Our Gala Committee, their families and the myriad number
of volunteers who have made Central Park Live so enjoyable and beneficial for our
Southern Tier Catholic and Archbishop Walsh students are to be heartily commended.
Watching our Eagles Gala Auction Committee in action was giving witness to
democracy in action. Many parents volunteered for a variety of assignments and
delivered results on time with significant results. A special “shout-out” goes to our
Eagles Gala Auction Coordinator, Theresa Smith, whose leadership, inspiration and
dedication have made our Gala Team so successful and the journey so enjoyable.

All silent auction areas will open at 5:30 p.m.
Bids are made using the assigned Bidder Identification number printed on your Auction
night bidding paddle. You may only bid with the number assigned to you. This number
matches your name with the Auction database and bank for all your bidding and purchases
throughout the evening.
Each item in the Silent Auction has a bid sheet. Each sheet is divided into a series of
incremental bidding steps. Place a bid by printing your assigned bidder number on the
appropriate line. Please print clearly, since illegible bids will be discarded. Under no
circumstances may a bid sheet be removed or earlier bids crossed out.
Each opening bid must equal or exceed the minimum bid indicated on the bid sheet and you
must increase the bid by at least the next minimum raise indicated.
An item is closed when a bid is placed in the “Buy It Now Box” or an Auction Official closes the bidding area at the posted closing time. No further bids will be accepted for that
item, with no exceptions.

At the end of the evening, head to “QuickCheck” located in the lobby. Review your
final purchase total for the evening and then head directly to Gift Depot to pick-up your
items. We will complete the payment process for you. Following the Auction you will be
mailed a final purchase statement, as well as a reservation statement (if applicable)
summarizing your total purchases and any tax deductible amounts.
STCS & Walsh have endeavored to catalog and describe the donated goods and services correctly based on the
information provided by the donor. STCS & Walsh make no express or implied warranties whatsoever, including
estimate of value with respect to any items sold. All goods and services are auctioned in “as is” condition. In the
event that a donor defaults in providing a promised service or the item purchased, the refund by STCS/Walsh is
limited to the amount paid at the Auction.

One lucky bidder will enjoy a ten day stay in Hermit’s Cottage
on the Greek Island of Patmos. This unique and quaint cottage
sleeps two persons and is donated by Marcia Kelly and the
Robert Lax Literary Trust. Robert Lax, the Olean-born poet
and friend of Trappist monk Thomas Merton moved to the
Greek islands where he lived simply and wrote, over a period
of 40 years. House is perched in the hills overlooking the town
and harbor of Skala. Cottage has a small kitchen, main room
and bedroom with a double bed. The windows look out to the
harbor, bathroom window frames the monastery. Groceries,
bakery and cafes are close by. Patmos is reached by ferry from
the port of Piraeus, near Athens. House is available in the
spring and fall of 2016.

513 Three Days in the Life of
Ambassador Ed Gabriel
“Not only did I learn more about how our government is run, but I
also learned about our country’s foreign relations. When driving into
Ambassador Gabriel’s office in the morning, I would see the embassies for all
of the different countries that have ties to the United States. Some of these
countries I have never even heard of. It was very enlightening to see this and
to witness foreign affairs first-hand at Ambassador Gabriel’s office. This was
a life changing trip for me. It has helped me to form my own opinions, that
are not all the same as my parents.” Grant Stephen - 11th Grade
This unique experience is a three night stay for one student in Washington,
DC, living and working with former Walsh Class of 1968 graduate,
Ambassador Ed Gabriel. Ambassador Gabriel served as US Ambassador
to Morocco, 1997-2001, where he was involved in the Middle East
peace accords, national security matters and economic and democracy
development policies. Ambassador Gabriel owns and operates one of
the biggest public affairs companies in Washington, which specializes
in advancing US policies for corporate, government and nonprofit
organizations. The lucky student will spend three days with Ambassador
Gabriel, learning how the Washington policy community works and makes
policy, with an emphasis on foreign affairs. As part of this experience the
student will meet with current and past policy makers to learn more about
their careers and experiences, as well as the process of formulating US
public policy. Room and board included. Airfare not included. Valid for
a student who is at least a freshmen in high school up to a current college
student. Dates to be negotiated with the donor.

an authentic Chinese cooking lesson in your home for six
by Chan Hing-Toi. Chan Hing-Toi grew up in Hong Kong
during the Cultural Revolution. He attended a British school
founded by his father Chan Ching. Life in Hong Kong
afforded Chan many opportunities that his extended family
who remained in China did not have due to the communist
regime. As a young man, Chan moved to the United States
to pursue his studies and later became an engineer for Arvos,
located in Wellsville, NY. This hands on, one of a kind
cooking experience and lesson provided by Chan Hing-Toi,
who now goes by his American name: Danny Chan, will give
you and your party an authentic Chinese fare straight from the
practiced methods of his ancestors.
