Parent Orientation
At the beginning of the academic year 2014 -15 parents are always eager to know what is expected of them and the school for
the progress of their children. As usual all parents were invited to attend an orientation in the AV theatre. The principal, Col.
Prasad the future Vice principal, Mr. Biju Baby and the teachers were in attendance to answer questions and appraise the
parents of any queries they had. The principal gave an enlightening talk which was followed by a detailed description of the IB
currriculum by Mr. Biju Baby. At the end parents were given the opportunity to clarify their questions. The meeting adjourned
with all stake holders feeling quite good about the orientation.
Interhouse Volleyball
Interhouse volleyball was hosted on the 9 th of
April and the matches continued till the 11 th .
There were three categories: girls, junior boys
and senior boys. Houses played against each
other and the points were tallied to know who
won.
In the girls’ category, Savage came first, Wilson
came second, Palmer came third and Thomas
followed.
In the junior boys category, Palmer was first
while Wilson missed coming first by a few
points, Thomas was after and Savage came in
last.
And in the most competitive category, senior
boys, Wilson came first with Palmer just behind,
Savage third and Thomas last.
This even was exciting and it helped the new
students see the house spirit in our school.
INDUCTION OF NEW STUDENTS AT cvsl
The new academic year began last month and along
with a new year came new students. There were more
than forty new students who wanted to experience
boarding life at CVSL. In order to make their stay warm
and comfortable the school took them on a tour of the
campus and explained the rules and regulations of a
boarding school. During their first few days in the school
a trip was organized for them to various places of interest
in and around Lonavala. The kids loved their new home
and have settled down very well.
Havan celebrated before the Examinations
On the sacred day of 18 th April, 2015, a Havan was held in the early
hours of the morning to seek the blessings of the almighty. All the students
assembled in the indoor basketball court, beautifully dressed in authentic
Indian clothing that enhanced the splendor of the surrounding at 8:30 am.
A small fire was built in the centre of the room around which all the
students sat. The havan was conducted by a local priest. He chanted
and recited several religious litanies and pious songs in Sanskrit
as well as Hindi. The senior students, teachers and parents all took
part in this ceremony, while the juniors sat around.
This religious session is heldevery year before the students
of grades X and XII appear for their unnerving examinations
in May and June.
The Havan ended with distribution of sweets and all the
students confidently walked back to their classrooms,
a satisfied smile dancing on their lips .
CBFT team revisits CVSL
The four member CBFT team that was assigned to make commendations and recommendations for the school revisited in April
for meetings with the students, staff and administrators. They made suggestions regarding the curriculum and plan of work
which should be uniform across the school.
Annual Speech Day
By 5 pm, all parents had arrived to witness the much awaited
‘Speech Day’, which would show them the school’s
performance and their ward’s progress in an International
institution. To commence with, we had the Procession March
led by the proud senior prefects, each house flag held higher
than the other. They were followed by all merit achievers, in
the most formal demeanour. After some intimate clicks and
snaps, the school hymn was sung followed by lighting of the
lamp. It was then time for our respected principal to give the
annual report for 2014-15.. Quite positive the analysis was.
Hard work, sweat and consistency should pay off, right? Next
was the felicitation of toppers, excelling and promising
students and 2 special awards. Smiles were drawn over proud
parents’ faces, while achievers got certificates, books and cash prizes.
Shubh Gattani and Mahika Mukherji got the Arjuna Award, and Utkarsh
Sanghavi received the Eklavaya. Congratulations! The outgoing IB II
received their graduation certificates, who hoped to enroll into their
dream universities. Malvika (former head girl) also shared her experience
throughout her schooling journey, expressed with mixed emotions. Later
the highly regarded chief guest, Mr Sanjay delivered a thought provoking
speech on the 3 most important educations in one’s life. Last but not
least, the Recession March was rhythmically played to the tune of each
footstep by our orchestra. It wasn’t just the guitar or violin or piano, but
when all of them came together did the beautiful sound come. This
showed us the power of synergy, working together to get the best out of
everything. With this encouraging note, we must work together to eliminate all our weaknesses and thrive to create ‘home’ a b etter place to
live. No matter what the train is made of, the end is always decided by the track it goes on.
Farewell to the Class of 2015
“Stars can only shine at night.” Whoever said this was true and our IB 2
warriors proved this proverb totally correct. On the night of 29 April 2015
during their farewell where they had a blast of memories and fun I think
that this farewell was most probably their last celebration at CVSL. Putting
up a farewell actually doesn’t mean just saying good bye to your friends
but it means putting all the precious moments in a box of Joy, Unity and
Love. The evening started with couple entries. The IB-1 had arranged
some good entertainment for them. Some of the chief people who
supported the entertainment department were Tanisha, Riya, Kundan and
Arya. This farewell was surrounded by positivity. They were tired but they
could not stop dancing. They were also served with aromatic and tasty
food which they enjoyed. The farewell also had 2 amazing videos. The
first was by the IB-2 containing all their beautiful memories in this school,
and the second containing blessings and wishes from all CVSL teachers.
The fantastic farewell had a fantastic end with the distribution of awards.
All the IB 2 students were not only there to make their memories but
were also to get delighted before their examinations and we wish them all
the very best for their boards.
Farewell to Grade 10 IGCSE
On the 30th of April the school organized a fun-filled farewell party for the
outgoing batch of 10th grade. The luminous party started off at 7 pm in the outdoor
basketball court. The court was laced with vibrant balloons and the red carpet rolled.
The twinkling stars only added to the beauty of the night. The outgoing batch was
gracefully dressed in authentic Indian clothing while the hosts class was draped in
sophisticated western outfits. The party was organized and hosted by the incoming batch
of grade 10 who had spent long hours organizing this event. Firstly, a video casting all
our IGCSE teachers was shown. All of them gave their teary-eyed goodbye messages and
well wishes to their students‟ futures while making them laugh at the same time. Awards
were given out to our stars, like „The Best in the World” and “Overgrown Baby” awards.
Soon after this there was a demand for a slow dance. The partners were cunningly picked
by the hosts who hooted as they hit the dance floor. Soon after this, the crowd headed
for the lavishly laid out dinner and the mouth watering frothy chocolate fountain.
They feasted on the deliciously prepared meal ravenously while the chilled blue
lagoon remained their favorite. Soon the students again hit the dance floor till
the teachers dishearteningly dispersed them off late into the starry night.
The party ended with lots of hugs and moist eyes as the students parted ways-some
to their homes and some back into their dormitories. All the students will surely
remember this night and certainly they will preserve the memories of this
night forever.
LAND UP HIGH – By Shamita Sood
I travelled up high,
Looking for it in the sky.
They say it doesn’t exist
But its there over the mist.
This mystery I shall solve
My fears I shall resolve!
On the clouds I stood
In a black coat and hood.
I followed the bright light,
When it turned dark at night.
I heard a loud noise,
It was the magic tortoise!
Away I drove my fear,
As I knew it was near.
But the clouds had no end,
So I chose to descend.
Nobody found the land up high,
It just lies there in the sky….
