active on the land
For land lovers: active on the land
The land between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea seduces holidaymakers to take part in
numerous activities with picturesque lakes, rich green fields, rolling hills and enchanting rivers.
The Viking-Frisian Way, Monks’ Way and the North Sea coast cycle path are just three of the
twelve optimally built and signposted cycle routes, which open up very special views of the
land between the seas for cyclists, with plenty of tailwind. Canoeists will be in paradise on numerous lakes, and those who like to have the ground firmly beneath their walking boots will be
right at home on the Baltic Sea walking route or in one of the Nordic walking parks. Golfers can
choose from over 60 greens, and tee off with a view of the Wadden Sea or the Baltic Sea.

active on the water
For sea fans: active on the water
Sailing, surfing, deep-water fishing, sand yachting or Nordic walking across the sea floor –
Schleswig-Holstein is situated between two seas and offers holidaymakers countless activ-ities
on the water. Over 100 harbours and marinas are closely packed along the 384-kilometre-long
Baltic Sea coast: paradise for both experienced seafarers and for landlubbers who are setting
sail for the first time here. The North Sea coast is heaven for surfers and kitesurfers, and sand
yachters. Kite buggy riders take advantage of the strong North Sea breeze on the beach. When
the tide goes out in the Wadden Sea, the sea floor is free for Nordic walking or lengthy strolls
across the mudflats.

culture
Cultural treasures and garden design
Visitors can discover Schleswig-Holstein’s rich garden culture on the seven garden routes
between the seas* in a car, on foot or by bicycle. The tours lead you to enchanted cottage
gardens, green gems and to the oldest Baroque garden in northern Europe. The imposing
terrace garden at Gottorf Palace is even older than Versailles; today, the former residential
palace displays the state’s archaeological treasures. Travel to the Hanseatic town of Lübeck on
a journey through time and architectural history from Gothic through to Classicism, where the
Burgkloster, the largest medieval monastery in northern Germany, the magnificent St Marien
Church and the famous Holstentor gate await you.

Shopping and relaxation by the Baltic Sea
Take a mini-holiday. Relax in traditional seaside resorts such as Timmendorf Beach. Or spend a
few days at a spa in Glücksburg, Damp, Hohwacht or Grömitz. You’ll also be delighted with the
Baltic coast if you love sophisticated shopping trips and seaside towns.
The attractive region is just three hours away from Copenhagen and Malmö. Travel with Scandlines from Rodby and start your trip on the sunny island of Fehmarn, which was still part of
Denmark up until 1542. The towns of Schleswig, Plön and Eutin should definitely be part of
your journey of discovery – you can experience pure northern history and culture in the beautiful
castles. Another tip: pay a visit to the traditional local breweries in Schleswig and Eutin.
