edition one a dark matter
EDITION ONE
A DARK MATTER
Astronomers believe that dark matter - a hypothetical
substance - accounts for around five-sixths of the
matter in the universe.
In our world darkness matters because true beauty
hides in the absence of light. Fantasy and creativity
emerge from the mysterious depth of space and every
object highlighted in it is exempt from context and
becomes a world of its own. Small details turn into a
grander vision and materiality starts touching our senses
in the most unexpected ways.
Our first editions shed more light on the universe of
Bazar Noir. The objects, scents, art and machines brought to life by the creative minds and skilled hands
of some of the most talented designers from around
the globe - share this simple philosophy:
Every thing surrounding us matters.
Martensen is a third-generation
master craftsman running the
company established by his
grandfather in 1931. He adopts
a minimalistic approach, giving
space a primary role. With an
obsessive eye for the very best
materials, much like that in
evidence on fashion runways,
Sönke reinterprets “Haute
Couture” through his furniture.
His love of the finest and most
luxurious materials is here
expressed in the use of the
exclusive nappa leather which
features in both the s359c and
k200 designs.
s359c

vegetable-tanned aniline leather seat filled with

minimalistic look without detracting from its
comfort.

Büro Famos is a Berlin-based
office run by Hanna Litwin and
Romin Heide. Together they
develop solutions in various
fields of design. Drawing on their
knowledge of lighting, furniture
and accessories, they juggle
disciplines in order to create new
concepts, combining traditional
techniques with new materials
and modern processes. This
approach results in a rich variety
of contemporary products and
innovative solutions.
Copeau
is a series inspired by the movement made while
chiselling wood. The handle of the lid, made of solid
anodized aluminium, is reminiscent of the shavings
created during the woodturning process of the base.
Made of ash wood and finished with natural oil.
Entirely hand-made in Germany, this exclusive and
timeless piece is sure to age gracefully.
Set of 2 containers:
Small: ø 92 mm x H 155 mm

Andree Weissert worked for
more than 12 years as a
carpenter, designer and architect
before founding his Berlin studio
SAW in 2009.
In addition to consulting,
planning and managing projects
for commercial and residential
customers Andree works
simultaneously on independent
designs where he develops
various prototypes, objects and
ideas. The starting point of his
work is his fascination with the
potential of spaces and his
passion for fun figures through
which he lets all of his ideas flow
and come to life.
X-Table
is the final result of many years of design study. Over the
last 5 years, Andree has developed 15 different tables,
some becoming projects for renowned companies.
In the process of creating the X-Table, Andree has
transcribed the atmosphere and feeling one experiences
while walking through Bazar Noir’s exhibition space.
The X-Table is characterized by its robust 8mm-fibre
cement panel. Despite the cold and solid characteristics
of this material, the construction results in a light
structure. The poles are barely touching one another as
if the panel were just hanging there. The oval form of
the panel, meanwhile, has no definite orientation, which
serves to emphasise the free space which surrounds it.
5 different panels are available for the Bazar Noir limited
edition. Naturally, each is available in a variation of black.
However, each black has its own unique depth and
intensity, making each surface seem inhomogeneous
and texturally striking, its pigment turning into an organic
material.
Frame made in oak wood. Fiber-cement table top
hand-finished with natural pigment and oil.

Roberto Sironi is an Italian
designer who has worked with
countless design studios. Over
the years, he has developed his
own design approach and
considers each project as a story.
Each story reveals itself through
research and evolves in different
aspects, from rituals and
anthropological references to
historical memory. His
contemporary minimal style
stays faithful to the appropriate
context, while revealing the
poetry of the object.
Madre Pane
is a modern interpretation of four sculptural bread stamps.
They abstractly represent an egg, a hen, a tree and a
millstone, these being respectively references to birth,
maternal protection, growth and strength.
Made of refractory ceramic – a tactile raw material found in
bakery ovens – the collection is finished in various colours.
Each displays the owner’s initial, completing the stamp in
traditional fashion. Madre Pane stamps are produced by
Ceramiche Puzzo in Milan.
Bread stamps made of refractory ceramic
available in pink, terracota and black.

Azadeh Shladovsky is a Los
Angeles-based designer who
imbues organic materials and
forms with a sleek glamour.
Since 2003, she has established
a studio that reflects a seamless
confluence of art, design and
interior architecture. Her work
is the exploration of sensory
awareness and visual
consciousness where she
manifests perceptual
dichotomies in material and
spatial expressions. Azadeh
constantly broadens her artistic
reach in order to discover new
ways of communicating.
Infinity
is a bench based on a steel frame finished in a smoky
charcoal alternating walnut wood and a sumptuous
Patagonian sheepskin.
The rigidity of the base in juxtaposition with the softness of
the sheepskin makes this piece an intriguing and yet inviting
item of furniture.
H 49cm x W 180cm x D 36cm
AOIRO is an airdesign studio run
by Shizuko Yoshikuni, a
Japanese scent designer, and
Manuel Kuschnig, an Austrian
communication designer.
Together they travel the world in
search of the highest- and
purest-quality sources of
botanical essences in order to
develop unique scent creations.
They devote their passion
to creating olfactory
interpretations of concepts in the
air. They have studios in both
Berlin and Tokyo, and work
widely with international clients.
AER
The essence of Bazar Noir - a scent of duality
that encompasses light and dusk.
Empowered by smokey ajowan cypress, deep
and earthy notes of hiba and sandalwood
are vividly enlightened by the delightful dew
of jasmine Sambac and green bergamot.
Composed of 100% botanical essences.
Place the charcoal diffuser on its metal base
and add a few drops of the essence on the
surface of the cube. The essence will slowly
diffuse itself in the air while creating a subtle
scent.
Each box is made of paulownia wood and
handcrafted in Ishikawa - Japan.
UNIKAT Grzegorz Korczak is a
former special effects director
who now uses his skills to build
unique motorcycles. He founded
Unikat, a workshop based in Poland specializing in redesigning
old motorcycles. The workshop
combines his two great passions:
speed and visual art.
Honda CB350 Noir
Gregorz has given new life to this rare 1973 motorcycle.
He began by removing 27kg of unwanted parts and
redesigned the bike in true Unikat style, granting it its
distinctive retro look. A hand-crafted air filter, 4-2 exhaust,
saddle, tail and hundreds of hours of hard work have
transformed this machine into a great companion. With
old-school Firestone Champion tires and original leather
from a Mercedes 300SL, it glides through the city streets.
And thanks to its meticulously tuned silencers, each ride
will be music to your ears. In short, truly a one-of-a-kind
machine.
