& THE STORIES AND SCRIPTURE BEHIND THE SONGS
Hope.Glory
the story and Scripture behind the songs
INTRODUCTION
When we first started planning the night that would become Hope.Glory, we wanted the event to be full of expressions of worship that were fresh and relevant, and yet rooted in Scripture and true to a Salva<on Army understanding of spirituality. We started with the first chapter of the New Testament book of Colossians, which is full of deep truths that we honestly could write songs to fill several albums’ worth of material.
As our team began to worship God together and wait on Him and write together asking for His guidance, we really felt Him doing a new thing in us and through us. The theme of “Christ in us” began to be developed and sung and prayed and meditated upon. As you sing these songs and realize the truth of the Scripture behind them, we pray that God will do a new thing in you as well.

HOLY SPIRIT, COME
{the story...}
This is a song of redirec<on. We can aVempt to do the works of God without being powered by the Spirit of God, but we will ul<mately fail. At the same <me, we can aVempt to keep God to ourselves clustered away from the world, but it will ul<mately prove to be an empty spirituality. One thing is for sure, both in our <mes of gathering together and in our <mes of ac<vely engaging the world in the mission of God, we need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God’s promised agent of truth and victory in our lives. The Holy Spirit keeps us connected to Jesus (John 15), who promised that we could do nothing apart from Him.
{the Scripture...}
We bring our hearts and we repent
Of every empty phrase or hollow praise we’ve sung (MATTHEW 15:7-‐9, ISAIAH 29:13)
We turn our back on all our sin
We fix our eyes on You and everything You’ve done (HEBREWS 12:1-‐2)
And now our lives will be our praise (ROMANS 12:1)
As we seek to know You more and bring You glory (JOHN 17, PHILIPPIANS 3:8-‐10)
And now our hope is set in You and so we wait... (PSALM 39:7)
For Your glory and Your fame, for the honour of Your name (ISAIAH 26:8)
Holy Spirit, come, oh come
For the lives for which You died, for a pure and spotless Bride (EPHESIANS 5:25-‐32)
Come ignite in us a fire
Holy Spirit, come, oh come
With empty hands, with open arms (ROMANS 7:18)
We liH a beggar’s prayer beneath our Father’s song (LUKE 18:9-‐14; ZEPHANIAH 3:17)
With every step, with all we are We’re holding onto You and trusIng in Your love (HEBREWS 10:19-‐23)
Your love... Your love...
Not a clever plan, not the will of man
You alone do what You alone can (ZECHARIAH 4:6)
Open up blind eyes, raise the dead to life (MATTHEW 10:7-‐8)
Let Your kingdom come, let Your will be done, Holy Spirit, come... (MATTHEW 6:9-‐13)

THE ATMOSPHERE
{the story...}
Christ came to set us free from the power of sin and the penalty of sin and to write His love and grace on our hearts. We no longer have to abide by a set of rules in order to win God’s approval. He has sa>sfied the requirements of all of the Old Testament laws forever. When Christ died on the cross for our sins, we were released from our past and set free into a glorious future of hope and salva>on. Now we live in Him and He lives in us by the power of the Holy Spirit.
{the Scripture...}
Spin me around, overshadow my heart (PSALM 17:8)
I wanna get lost and dance like a fool, awash in Your love (2 SAMUEL 6:14-‐16)
Everything’s clear, everything’s new (PSALM 36:7-‐9)
You change the atmosphere just by being here in this room (ACTS 2, 1 KINGS 8:11)
Yeah, the kingdom of God is in power (1 CORINTHIANS 4:20)
Oh... Oh... Freedom is here in me, Christ in me
Oh... My God, Your love has set me free
Yeah, You set me free (JOHN 8:31-‐32, ROMANS 8:1-‐4, 10:4, GALATIANS 5:1)
Delivered from darkness, rescued into the light
Into the kingdom of the Son Who gave up His life (COLOSSIANS 1:13-‐14)
Purchased our freedom, cancelled our debt (EPHESIANS 1:7)
Now the prodigal ones have a heart for their home
In the Saviour who bled (EPHESIANS 2:13)
Yeah, the kingdom of God is in power (1 CORINTHIANS 4:20)
Don’t give me cold tradiKon, don’t give me dead religion
I just want grace, I just want truth, I just want You (JOHN 1:17, ROMANS 8:3-‐4)
Don’t give me man-‐made systems, don’t give me earthly wisdom (COLOSSIANS 2:8, 20-‐23)
I just want the kingdom of hope, the kingdom of light
The kingdom of God in power (1 CORINTHIANS 4:20)

WAIT FOR YOU
{the story...}
There’s a lot of wai<ng in the Bible. Throughout the Scripture, men and women waited on God in an<cipa<on for Him to act, in prepara<on to hear from Him and to renew their strength. However the biblical concept of wai<ng is not about si]ng around and doing nothing, but rather an inten<onal act of pu]ng ourselves before God and hoping in Him with expectancy. It sets our hearts right, rids us of impure mo<ves and lets God have our utmost aVen<on and devo<on.
The “wai<ng for God to come” doesn’t mean that He’s not there to begin with; rather, our eyes are opened and our hearts are so`ened to be sensi<ve to His presence.
{the Scripture...}
In this quiet place I will seek Your face (2 CHRONICLES 7:14, PSALM 105:4)
And my soul will wait for You (ISAIAH 40:29-‐31, PSALM 27:8,14)
I have made my choice, unIl l I hear Your voice (PSALM 95:6-‐7, 1 KINGS 19:10-‐13, 1 SAMUEL 3:1-‐10)
Lord, my soul will wait for You...
Yes, Lord, I wanna see Your face
Yes, Lord, I wanna see Your face
Yes, Lord, I wanna see Your face, so I will wait (EXODUS 33:12-‐23)

FOR US
{the story...}
Our iden<ty informs our mission. We will never fully realize the role the Lord has for us un<l we realize how much He loves us! This song is a bold declara<on of that love.
{the Scripture...}
Once we were lost, once we were lost, once we were lost and unclean
Separated, separated, separated, enemies (COLOSSIANS 1:21)
Reconciled now, reconciled now, reconciled now and redeemed
In You (COLOSSIANS 1:22)
Open our eyes, open our eyes, let us see
Who we are now, who we are now, who we are now that we’re free
Everything we, everything we, everything we ever need... is You
Your blood... has saved us
And Your love... has raised us (COLOSSIANS 1:20)
Your cross is our chorus, that our God is for us
Our God is for us (ROMANS 8:28-‐39)
Here in this hour, here in this hour, here in this hour and place
Wisdom and power, wisdom and power, wisdom and power and grace
Fill us up now, fill us up now, fill us up now as we wait... for You
Glory of God, glory of God, glory of God in this place
Glory of God, glory of God, glory of God in this place
Every heart full, every heart full, every heart full of your place
Every heart full, every heart full, every heart full of your place
Everyone sing, everyone sing, everyone shout out Your name! (COLOSSIANS 1:28)
Oh... what a mystery, the hope of eternity (COLOSSIANS 1:26)
And all of the saints will sing and join in the chorus (PSALM 132:16)
That our God is for us, our God is for us (JOHN 3:16-‐17)

POWER OF THE LAMB
{the story...}
“Some people trust in chariots.” What? Trus<ng in chariots is a biblical metaphor for pu]ng confidence in what man can do. When Jesus comes on the scene in the New Testament, He shows a different kind of power that is wrapped in weakness. When we look at Jesus’ life, the way He showed power was to keep close to the Father and do absolutely nothing outside of what He saw His Father doing. From the manger where He was born to the cross where He died, He placed Himself completely in God’s hands and showed us the power in being weak. For when we are weak, we are really strong in Him.
{the Scripture...}
Some people trust in chariots,
But our hope is in the name of the Lord (PSALM 20:7)
Some people trust in governments,
But our hope is in the name of the Lord
Some people wait for men to save,
But our hope is in the name of the Lord
So we wait on You
And we trust in You (PROVERBS 3:5-‐6)
We trust in the power of the Lamb (ISAIAH 53, JOHN 1:29; REVELATION 5, 12:11, )
Our God in the weakness of a Man (ROMANS 8:3)
Outstretched in the Father’s perfect plan (JOHN 10:17-‐18)
Steadfast and unshakeable Your love (LAMENTATIONS 3:22)
Our hope is Your covenant and blood (HEBREWS 7:25-‐28)
Our Rock in the rising flood
Yeah, the power of the Lamb (PSALM 18:2, ISAIAH 59:19, ROMANS 9:33)
Show us the way to be weak in You (2 CORINTHIANS 12:9-‐10)
For our hope is in the name of the Lord
Humbled Yourself unto death,
Name above all other names
Heaven and earth will confess, “Jesus”
King of glory now, every knee will bow (PHILIPPIANS 2:6-‐11)

ONLY HOPE OF THE WORLD
{the story...}
Watch the news for 10 minutes and you’re bound to come across a story that will either pierce your heart or make you cringe. As Chris<ans we know that Jesus is truly the only hope for our fallen and broken and needy world. And as we surrender to Him and live out Christ’s life in our world, we become healing agents for His sake, bringing His kingdom to Earth in real ways.
{the Scripture...}
Wars rage and the earth aches for a permanent soluIon Fires burn and our hearts yearn for a way out of this confusion (ROMANS 8:22-‐24)
And tears fall and You see them all (PSALM 34:18-‐19, PSALM 56:8)
Oh, Prince of Peace, it’s You we seek tonight (ISAIAH 9:6)
You’re the only hope of the world
You’re the only hope of the world
You’re the only hope of the world, Jesus (1 TIMOTHY 1:1)
Lord, come with Your kingdom and Your power and glory (MATTHEW 6:13)
Your will be done, Your Church be one, (MATTHEW 6:10; JOHN 17:21)
Our lives to tell Your story (EPHESIANS 2:10)
The great romance (PSALM 45, MATTHEW 25:1-‐13, JOHN 3:29; EPHESIANS 5:21-‐32; REVELATION 19:7-‐9, 21:2-‐3)
And the second chance (LUKE 15:11-‐32)
Oh, God of grace, it’s You we praise tonight (EPHESIANS 1:6)
And kingdoms will rise and kingdoms will fall (MATTHEW 24:7)
And You will be liHed high aHer all is said and done (REVELATION 19)
Jesus, You’re the One
So take the stage, come and take Your place (REVELATION 5)
Oh, King of love, have Your way tonight...

OH WHAT LOVE
{the story...}
“For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.” (MATTHEW 18:20) That’s the promise. All we need do is believe it.
{the Scripture...}
Oh what love
Oh what love is here
Is here (MATTHEW 18:20, JOHN 14:16-‐20)
And everyone led by the Spirit is a son or daughter
And everyone led by the Spirit is a son or daughter
And everyone led by the Spirit is a son or daughter (JOHN 8:14-‐16)
So let everyone here stand and sing in the freedom
Everyone here stand and sing in the freedom (GALATIANS 5:1)

The ba\le is won and the enemy defeated (COLOSSIANS 2:10-‐15)
In heaven and earth let the anthem be repeated
In heaven and earth let the anthem be repeated (REVELATION 5:13-‐14)

HOLY, WORTHY, WONDERFUL
{the story...}
It’s a simple prayer and a simple song... and yet, it is the stuff that we will be singing for all of eternity. He is holy, pure, spotless, otherworldly, high above us and altogether different from us. He is worthy. He came down to us and brought us back to Himself by the cross and resurrec<on. And for that reason we sing that He is wonderful.
All of Scripture, all of crea<on, all of history and all of heaven tes<fy that He is holy, worthy and wonderful.
{the Scripture...}
You are holy
You are worthy
You are wonderful

STARS IN THE NIGHT
{the story...}
This song is based loosely on some words by Frederick Booth-‐Tucker, a missionary and officer in the early days of The Salva<on Army. It’s a song of consecra<on, a “meet us where we’re at and take us where You want us to be” kind of prayer. And God always answers those kinds of prayers.
{the Scripture...}
All that is here within these bones
All that is future and unknown
All that the world would sell, it pales compared to You
All that is in us hears Your call
Mountains of doubt before You fall
All that we could not give before, abandoned now (PHILIPPIANS 3:8-‐11)
Take it all, Lord, sancIfy us (JOHN 17:17)
All we have is Yours
Separate us from this world, Lord, (JOHN 17:15-‐16)
Be our joy and song (JOHN 15:9-‐11)
And let us shine like stars in the night... (PHILIPPIANS 2:14-‐15)
to show Your glory (1 CORINTHIANS 10:31)
So help us to hear Your sIll, small voice (1 KINGS 19:10-‐13)
And never to fear the costly choice (DEUTERONOMY 31:6, HEBREWS 11:24-‐27)
As long as Your Presence goes with us, we’ll follow on (EXODUS 33:14-‐16)
Whatever price devoIon asks (2 CORINTHIANS 4:17)
Whatever darkness shrouds our path
Here is the one reward we ask: to know You more (PHILIPPIANS 3:8)
All of our flaws and failures, all we have yet to be
All of our deepest longings, all of our hopes and dreams
All that would stand against us, all that is in our way
Father, Your Word has promised, “Nothing can separate” (ROMANS 8:38-‐39)
