PCL is a company of over 100
years that remains strongly
rooted in the legacy of Ernest
E. Poole, a young carpenter
who in 1903, at the age of 19,
travelled west to Stoughton,
Saskatchewan in search of a
summer job. Little did he know
that this journey would lead to
his founding of a small prairie
construction business in 1906
and the eventual building of
Canada’s largest and most
successful general contracting
company, with operations from
coast-to-coast, to the Arctic
and into the United States,
and beyond.
When passing the mantle on
to his sons John and George in
1948, Ernest Poole penned a
set of guiding principles that
came to be known as ‘Poole’s
Rules’ and that remain today the
essence of our core values and
company vision…
aspiring to be the most
