Southern Girls Basketball Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser (37)
4 pm – 7 pm, Southern Garrett Rescue Squad Hall, Route 135. The 2015
Lady Rams 2015 Class 1A State Runner-up Basketball Team will hold
a spaghetti dinner fundraiser. The event will include a delicious dinner,
silent auction, raffles, take outs, homemade spaghetti sauce, and limited

Parade Food Vendors (9)
9:30 am – 5 pm. Food vendors are primarily located in the M&T parking
lot and along Green Street between 2nd & 3rd. Support these 20 vendors

Oakland Shuttle (9)
10 am – 5 pm Saturday. The Garrett Transit service will provide a
shuttle service circulating between downtown Oakland (Town Parking
Lot), the craft/antique shows, and dinners. For more information, call

buses will circulate the area and the fare is $3 for all day or $1 per ride.

ROAD CLOSINGS
Second Street will be closed to traffic
from Liberty Street to Center Street
at 9:30 am. Both Seconds and Third
Streets, from Omar Street to Alder
Street, will be closed to all vehicles at
11 am. Traffic needing to bypass Oakland will be directed to detour along
Fourth Street until the parade ends.
Center Street will remain open until
12:45 pm. Memorial Drive also will be
closed to through traffic from Fourth
to Eighth Street. No one will be able to
turn onto Fourth Street from Memorial
Drive and there will be no access onto
Memorial Drive from Fourth to Eighth
Streets. Parking along the parade
route, which includes parts of Second,
Third & Alder streets, is prohibited
prior to and during the parade.
Please note this major change
this year: when dropping off passengers after you go through the parade,
to avoid any accidents, you must drop
off your passengers in a parking lot
past Lake Street. You cannot stop on
the north-bound side of Rt. 219 to
drop off passengers. This policy will be
strictly enforced this year.

town parking lot at the end of Second
Street across the railroad tracks.

Brenda’s Body Shop Performance (24)
11 am, Oakland Train Station. Dancers from
Brenda’s Body Shop will perform at the train
station at 11 am. The community dance project
has become a highlight during Autumn Glory
as a local charity benefits each year from
awareness and money raised. Brenda’s Body
Shop has raised just under $250,000 for charity. Email

Opens at 2 pm for the General Public–Field next to Tractor Supply (13631
Garrett Hwy in Oakland). Pumpkin Chucking will aim their machines down
a 350 yard range to see which team can fling their pumpkins the furthest
– taking advantage of Garrett County’s bountiful supply of pumpkins and
engineering talent. Free Admission but donations graciously accepted.

Western Maryland Tournament of Bands (29)
6 pm, Southern High School Athletic Field. Marching bands from the
tri-state region come together for a judged field show competition at
Southern High School. This is great entertainment for the entire family!

Annual Great Pumpkin Race & Festival (1)
9 am – 2 pm, Vesper Service at 9 am with registration beginning at 10 am,
Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI) on top of Wisp Mountain.
Pumpkin Mania on the Mountain! Pre-carved pumpkin contest along with
the Great Pumpkin Race, where pumpkins are decorated and released to
ride the rapids for prizes. Plenty of fall activities for families. More than

No Hands Sundae Eating Contest (17)
Contest begins at 2 pm. Registration begins at 1:15 pm,
Lakeside Creamery, 20282 Garrett Hwy., Route 219, Deep
Creek Lake. Kids & kids at heart will bury their faces in 2
scoops of vanilla ice cream, gooey chocolate syrup, sprinkles
& whipped cream at this annual contest. 15-25 contestants
compete at a time by age group. Advance registration is suggested by calling

The 2015 Autumn Glory Royalty Court has been selected
for the 48th Annual Autumn Glory Festival. This year’s
King is Devan Hamrick and the Queen is Marley Merrick.
Devan is involved in theater, Southern Garrett Soccer and
the Southern Garrett Cross Country and Wrestling teams,
where he earned State Titles. Devan is the first student
in Southern Garrett High School history to win two State
Titles in two sports in the same academic school year.
Marley participates in Southern Varsity Soccer and Track
and serves as 2016 Class Vice President and is also
a member of the National Honor Society. Marley also
volunteers with Garrett County Gives, and Broken Road
Associates, among others.
The Autumn Glory King & Queen will be present at the
Autumn Glory Kick-Off Reception to be held at Wisp
Resort on Wednesday, October 7 and they will be featured
in the Autumn Glory Grand Feature Parade on Saturday,
October 10. Besides having the honor of representing
their home county during the Autumn Glory Festival and
at other events, the Royalty Court will receive scholarship
funds.
The Royalty Court sponsors are Hugh Umbel Companies
(Bear Creek Traders, Deep Creek Shop’n Save Fresh,
Legacy Home Corp., McHenry Beverage Shoppe and
Perkins Restaurant & Bakery), Massage at the Lake and
Newman Funeral Homes.

Fall Foliage Tours
Travel along some of Garrett County’s
most scenic and historical routes. Enjoy
spectacular fall foliage, panoramic vistas,
heritage sites and stunning natural features
with this year’s two new tours!
Fall Foliage Heritage Tour Highlights include:
Several Barn Quilts, Friend’s Store, Cranesville Swamp,
Swallow Falls State Park, Fork Run Recreation Area, and
Maryland Scenic Byways.
Brief Directions: (25 miles, approx. 54 min)
The tour begins at the Garrett County Visitors Center located
at 15 Visitors Center Drive in McHenry, MD and continues left

slight left to stay on Oakland Sang Run Rd. Turn right onto
Shingle Camp Rd and then turn left onto Fork Run. Return to
Shingle Camp Rd and then turn right. Turn right onto Oakland
Sang Run Rd. Turn right onto Hoyes Run Rd. Turn right onto
Sang Run Rd. Turn right onto Garrett Highway (Rt. 219 South).
Turn right onto Visitors Center Drive returning to the Garrett
County Visitors Center.

Extended Fall Foliage Heritage Tour
Highlights include:
Bear Creek Traders, Historic Oakland, Maryland High Point,
Historic African Methodist Episcopal Church, Loch Lynn
Walking Trail, Simon Pearce Glassblowing Factory & Retail
Store, and Maryland Scenic Byways.
Brief Directions: (62 miles, approx. 1 hour, 46 min)
The tour begins at the Garrett County Visitors Center located
at 15 Visitors Center Drive in McHenry, MD and continues
right onto US 219 (Garrett Highway). Turn left into Market
Square Shopping Center. Turn left onto US 219 (Garrett
Highway). Turn right onto E Oak st/Rt. 39. Turn right at
stoplight onto S 2nd St. Turn left into the Oakland Town
Parking Lot. Turn right onto MD-39 W. Make a slight left onto
Old Crellin Rd. Turn left onto Underwood Rd. Turn right onto
Wes White Rd. Turn right onto US-219, entering West Virginia.
Return to MD, traveling US-219. Turn right onto Mason
School Rd. Continue on Pleasant Valley Rd, then turning left
to continue on Pleasant Valley Rd. Turn right onto Lynndale
Rd, which turns into Smouse Rd. Continue onto Roanake
Ave, turning left on Powhatan t. Turn right onto Bonnie Blvd.
Continue on Bonnie Blvd which turns into W. 3rd Ave. Turn left
onto Rt. 560/Gorman St. and travel to the stoplight. Turn right
onto MD-135 E. Turn left onto Glass Drive. Return to MD-135
E. Turn left onto Broadford Rd. Turn right onto Kings Run
Road. Turn right onto US-219 North. Turn left onto Visitors
Center Drive returning to the Garrett County Visitors Center.
