continually to deliver the smoothest possible ride with the highest performance
handling. This damping design is integral to every Works shock--whether it's
for off-road motorcycles, ATVs, high-performance street bikes or custom cruisers.

General Construction Features
Works' shocks are made in the U.S.A. of aircraft-quality materials--hard-chromed, high tensile
steel shafts and billet aluminum components. All the shocks are serviceable, and are covered
by an exclusive 30-day "Performance Guarantee" - the ride and handling will meet your
expectations or Works will re-spring and re-valve the shocks at no charge, except for shipping.
In many cases, Works shocks can be equipped with optional remote reservoirs that feature a
polyurethane bladder for smooth fade-free damping in the toughest competition situations. The
springs are wound from chrome-silicon wire; shot peened and set to solid. Works shocks feature a
computer-calibrated check ball, spring and orifice damping system that is unique in the shock industry.
This allows each damping curve to be specifically tailored to the combination requirements of rider,
machine and terrain.
How Multi-Rate Springs Work
Depending on application, single-, dual-, or triple-rate springs are available. Dual-rate springs are just thata spring set with two separate rates. This is done with a short spring stacked on a longer spring. As both
springs collapse they produce a soft, or initial, rate. The spring set will maintain this initial rate until the short
spring stops compressing (at a preset mechanical point). At that point, the spring rate transitions to the stiffer,
or final, rate. The triple-rate springs feature three distinct rates. This multi-rate system allows a soft initial rate for
comfort on small bumps, but has the capability of soaking up the big bumps, potholes, pavement breaks and
other on-road hazards. Off road, this transitional spring set handles all of the big jumps and square-edged holes
seen in off-road riding.
The ARS System
Adjustable Rate Suspension (ARS), standard equipment on some Works shocks, is also offered as an option for many
other street bike shocks. ARS allows the rider to increase or decrease the load-carrying capacity of the shocks up to
50 percent without changing the pre-load of the springs. This allows the shocks to be correct for solo riding, but
then appropriately handles the increased weight of a passenger and/or baggage. ARS is also used during solo
riding to stiffen the rates for aggressive riding, or for riding on rough, broken pavement. The ARS system (which
varies in design) consists of an indexing stop and a stepped cup that contains the short spring. The position of the
stop in relation to the steps in the cup determines how long the spring set remains on the initial spring rate. On
most ARS applications, four positions can be selected from full stiff to full soft.
Tracker Series Street Shocks
The Tracker series of shocks for street bikes includes the machined aluminum Billet Tracker, the Street Tracker, and
the Steel Tracker. These are high-pressure gas shocks that feature: 1-3/8-inch damping piston; 1/2" diameter,
chromed, high-tensile-steel shaft; Works' exclusive valving system; and powder-coated, chrome-silicon steel
single- or dual-rate springs. The Billet Tracker features a 7075-T6-billet aluminum body with threaded spring preload adjustment. The new Street Tracker mates a chromed steel pressure tube to a machined billet aluminum
shock eye. A hidden nitrogen fill valve gives the new Street Tracker a clean, smooth look. The Steel Tracker
features a zinc-plated steel and billet aluminum construction. Options for these shocks included natural and
polished ARS, chromed springs and billet appearance cups. Typically Tracker series shocks range in overall
length (eye-to-eye) from 10-1/2 to 15 inches.

Shock Types
UltraCross and UltraSport
Rear Shocks
The UltraCross and Ultra Piggyback for dirt bikes and ATVs, and the UltraSport, for
single shock street machines are the state of the art, maximum performance shocks.
Features: high strength 7075-T6 billet aluminum or steel body; induction-hardened,
high tensile steel, 5/8 inch diameter shaft; 18-position rebound adjustment; and
1-13/16-inch diameter piston. The unique check ball, spring and orifice damping
system allows an extremely wide range of damping that cannot be matched by
conventional shim-stack shocks. Most are equipped with hose-mounted remote reservoirs and optional single- or dual-stage compression adjustment. Some are equipped
with ride height adjustment.
Fork Spring Kits
Kits for street bikes feature a soft initial rate that transitions to a stiffer final rate. This allows
a comfortable “cruising” rate in the first part of the suspension movement, but stiffens for big
bumps and to resist front-end dive under braking. Adjustable to customize the performance
for your riding style and weight.
DuraCross, DuraSport and QuadStar
These rugged rear single shocks feature large 5/8-inch, induction-hardened, hard-chromed steel
shafts and huge 1-13/16-inch diameter damping pistons. These shocks have threaded pre-load
adjustment and can be equipped with hose-mounted remote reservoirs. The DuraCross (for dirt
bikes), the DuraSport (for street bikes) and the QuadStar (for ATVs) are large-bodied steel shocks that
are designed and built for rugged use and long life.
Pro Racer and Racer Shocks
These special application piggyback reservoir shocks feature a high-pressure steel cylinder mated to a
machined billet aluminum body with a reservoir that is finned for maximum cooling. Both shocks have
threaded pre-load and feature the durable polyurethane bladder in the reservoir. The Racer features a 1-3/8inch diameter piston and Works exclusive check-ball and spring damping system. The Pro Racer features fullrange, externally adjustable rebound and compression damping settings for maximum suspension tuning. The
Pro Racer is a unique twin-tube design that incorporates the Works' orifice damping system. Racers and Pro
Racers are the shocks of choice for twin shock high-performance bikes and racers!
Gasser, A-T Steeler and Dirt Tracker Shocks
The Gasser (for twin shock and some single-shock dirt bikes) the A-T Steeler (for ATV fronts and some light-weight
rear shocks) and the Dirt Tracker (for motorcycle oval, TT and vintage racing) are high-pressure gas dampers that
feature a 1/2-inch, hard-chromed steel shaft and a 1-3/8-inch diameter piston with six-stage damping. The Gasser
and A-T Steeler shocks utilize a durable steel body with clip-type pre-load adjustment. Most can be equipped with
optional hose-mounted reservoirs and threaded pre-load. The Dirt Tracker bodies are made of 7075-T6 billet
aluminum and have threaded pre-load adjustment. This series of shocks ranges in overall length (eye to eye)
from 8-1/2 to 18-1/2 inches.
Pro Piggyback and G Series Shocks
The Pro Piggyback, the new G-series and Pro G-Series shocks feature a 1-3/8-inch piston mated to a heavyduty 5/8-inch shaft with threaded pre-load standard. The G-Series is available in emulsion style and dualline recirculating, large-capacity reservoir models. The dual-lines effectively recirculate the oil from the
shock to the reservoir and back to help cool the shock oil. The Pro Piggyback and Pro G-Series have 18position rebound adjustment and a choice of high or high and low speed compression damping adjustments. These shocks feature new Teflon fabric spherical bearings, and anodized components.

Besides the confident, smooth riding shocks that riders expect from Works, the Air
Softail shocks are designed to "run flat" in an emergency. This means that if there
were a loss of pressure, the bike can still be ridden at reduced speed to get to a safe
haven. Additionally, if a line fails, the system deflates slowly to allow the rider to react
and reduce speed and lean angle. The pair consists of one air-spring and one damper
unit with internal spring. The internal spring allows the "run flat" feature. These systems
come complete with the compressor pump, hoses, wiring, fittings, switches, relays, etc.,
everything necessary for installation. The air feature allows the rider to run the shocks
at full length and travel while riding, yet lower the bike for cruising or when parked. Two
versions are available: an eye-to-eye style from 89-99 and the "post" style from 00-on. The
shocks are available in black only, with polished billet compressor
brackets and switch mounts.

Reservoir Clamps
Aluminum clamps mount remote reservoirs to the frame

Works Performance offers full line service and repair for many of the OEM rear shocks.
The "Heart Transplant" is Works' re-valve of the stock shock. Rather than just add a
few shims, Works installs a new piston of the same design as that used in the
Works Ultracross rear shock. This modification can also include seals and shaft
bushings as optional repairs. For shocks with bent or damaged shafts, Works has
the "Guts" cartridges. These cartridges replace the shaft, eye or clevis, the
bumper, seal head, and dust cap and include the "Heart Transplant"
piston --basically all of the insides of the shock. The cartridges are
available in a standard version and a rebound adjustable version and
are installed in a serviceable shock body. These modifications are
available on many OEM dirt bike and ATV rear shocks.
Maintenance and repair of Works UltraCross, UltraSport, DuraCross,
DuraSport, QuadStar, A-T Steelers, Trackers, Gassers, Pro Racers, Racers,
MagnaCrossers, SuperCrossers and all other Works shocks (no matter how
old) are performed by our service department. All Works shocks can be re-built
and serviced.

Works can handle prototyping, pre-production and short run production and assembly of not
only suspension dampers, but many types of mechanical components and assemblies. Works
has been involved in prototyping motorcycle and mountain bicycle forks, fork cartridges, and
rear suspension damping units for a number of manufacturers.
RQ-1A Predator®
Unmanned Surveillance Aircraft
Works Performance is proud to play a small part in America’s
defense. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems’ Predator—
unmanned multi-purpose platform—is fitted with special nose
gear damper unit manufactured by Works. In addition, the
unique demands of the U.S. Special Forces for advanced Scout
and Support ATV suspension are met by the Works design and
production team.
Machining
All of the machined shock components are manufactured at Works
Performance on state-of-the-art CNC (Computer Numeric Control)
milling and turning machines. These CNC lathes and mills assure the
production of parts to exacting specifications. The machining services go handin-hand with our custom engineering, prototyping and pre-production assembly services.
Proprietary Assemblies
Shocks that are built from off-the-shelf parts, but are engineered and assembled for a specific
manufacturer-designed production chassis or application can be protected with a proprietary
agreement. Shocks built to these specifications are normally only available to retail customers
through the manufacturer. This protects the investment of R&D and engineering costs incurred by
the manufacturer.
Data Acquisition System
Works' on-board data acquisition system enables Works engineers to quantify changes to the spring
rates, and the rebound and compression circuits. Data acquisition is just part of the exhaustive research
and development effort that goes into each new model bike or ATV. Applications are added constantly
to the Works’ shock absorber line-up.
Difficult, tough, or tricky damping situations are the
forte of Works' engineering department. Using the
latest on-board data acquisition systems and
advanced CAD/CAM computer programs, Works can
usually engineer a solution to just about any damping
problem. Works' expertise in engineering solutions to
difficult damping problems goes back over 30 years
with motorcycles, ATVs, race cars, off-road
trucks, buggies, mountain bikes, and industrial damping applications. At Works, "nearly
all things are possible."

The illustrations below are the most common non-linkage suspension designs for bikes and ATVs. When ordering
shocks for modified frames or swingarms, or for applications not currently on file, you'll need to provide these

When ordering, please be as accurate as possible when providing the following information.
