Table Prize Raffle
How would you like to win one of the following?
Your own St Simon reserved parking space for 2012–2013
iPod Nano
Fine wine
One Week at a Sierra Vacation Home
Exclusive Sr. Rebecca CDs
Then play the Table Prize Raffle! It’s easy, it’s fun, and if you win you are guaranteed one of the above prizes, plus other
great prizes too, like gift certificates for local entertainment, services, restaurants, and more (see Donors below).
At each table there is a Gondola that contains a prize number. Each Gondola contains a different prize and was randomly
placed on the tables. To participate, each person at a table can sign one of the 10 lines on the Table Prize Sheet and enter
their bidder number. The cost to sign is $35 a line and will be charged to your account. If a blank line remains on the card
after everyone at your table has had a chance to enter, a person can sign additional lines.
After dinner, a number from 1 to 10 will be randomly selected and announced. The person’s name on the corresponding line wins and can open the Gondola to see what they have won. The Gondola contains a note with the prize number
(please take note that this is not your table number,) and a list of items won. To claim your prize, bring the note to the
Checkout Table at the end of the Live Auction.

Donated by:
The Durekas Family
These beautiful platters were decorated by the students of the graduating Eighth grade class of 2011. Each
circle is a reminder of the years spent together-learning, growing in faith and friendship, and sharing a
community. Our time together spans the lifetime of childhood-yet feels like it has gone by in an instant. Just
yesterday, they lined up for Kindergarten with Mrs. Morris, and began their journey at St. Simon School. So
many firsts—Sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion, preparing for Confirmation, the first tooth pulled
by Mrs. Straw, and their first blue card turned by Mrs.Worley! The Three Piggy Opera, making Missions and
Longhouses, learning to work and play together on a team, going off to Science camp and running for Student
Council, are just some of their treasured memories. Then came Junior High dances, the beginning of teenage
drama and romances, striving for excellence in sports, student leadership and academics, ever growing, ever
learning. The memories that have been shared over the years, this community, and these friends, will always
be a part of our time together. As 6 year olds, they sang goodbye to their eighth grade partners. And now, their
time has come. “We’ll be friends forever, you and I...”

Masquerade Fund-a-Need
Chapter Title
Fund-A-Need “Last Heroes Standing”
iPads for St. Simon
and writing math examples, creating idea webs,
recording lectures, tutorials, skills practice, collaborating on group projects, etc. The list of educational applications is already extensive and growing
every day, with many free applications. Teachers
can also take advantage of many resources online
and through the diocese to learn more about best
practices for incorporating iPad use in their curriculum and particular subjects.
The Fund-a-Need section of the Venetian
Masquerade Live Auction aims to raise money for a
targeted need identified by the administration of St.
Simon Parish School. Our 2009 Auction raised over
$26,500 for Fund-a-Need! Thanks to the generosity
of our wonderful auction-goers and parishioners
(even those who could not attend the auction), we
were able to purchase multimedia projectors, new
screens and new maps for all the classrooms!
Please Give What You Can
Help St. Simon Parish School usher in the next
decade by giving what you can towards this worthwhile cause! Please note all Fund-a-Need contributions are 100% tax deductible. Thank you for your
generosity and support.
For more details including a list of Frequently
Asked Questions on iPads for St. Simon and some
quotes from St. Simon teachers and students, please
go to http://parish.stsimon.org/auction.
This Year’s Need
St. Simon Parish School looks to continue to leverage technology as a tool to enhance learning in the
classroom. This year’s Fund-a-Need asks for your
support in funding 50+ 16GB iPads at $449 each
(educational discount included) for rotating use in
all of the school classrooms (K-8). There are many
compelling advantages to using the iPads versus the
laptops and netbooks currently in use. For example,
laptops and netbooks typically have a life of approximately 3 years, cost twice the amount, are less
portable, have higher software/application costs
and have half the battery life of an iPad.
HOW FUND-A-NEED/LAST HEROES
STANDING WILL WORK
To kick off our Fund-a-Need segment, all auction
goers will be asked to stand. The Auctioneer
will then ask those willing to give $100 to stay
standing, then go up in increments of $100. At any
point when you choose to sit down, kindly write
the amount you plan to give in the bright yellow
‘Fund-a-Need’ slip of paper (which has your bidder
# and name). Runners will bring your Fund-aNeed sheet to the Auction Checkout table. We
appreciate whatever amount you are able to give
to this very worthwhile cause.
Other iPad Advantages
There is a lot of excitement in the impact that tablet
computing, and specifically, iPads are making on
education today. A few of our teachers are already
piloting the use of iPads in a few classrooms. These
iPads are currently being used for word processing,
image and content Web searches, note-taking during lectures, presentations, watching videos to learn
concepts, incorporating music on projects, drawing
