LUCY SCHOOL Celebrates its 12th anniversary paying honor to “Our Story” 11thth ANNUAL AUCTION To benefit The Luce Fund March 15, 2014 In 2003, Lucy School parents, friends and community members established the Luce Fund for Children. The purpose of this not-­‐for-­‐profit organization is to help keep the School vibrant, accessible and diverse. The Fund raises funds and accepts donations primarily to: (1) help defray tuition costs so that any child can enter, regardless of a family’s ability to pay; and (2) to make possible visits by local artists to co-­‐create music, dance, sculpture and other masterpieces with the children. Financial aid has helped hundreds of families realize the dream of sending their children to an arts based creative learning institution. It goes without saying that both the children and the visiting artists learn new ways to see the world and solve problems by the time their work together is done. Any bids below the minimum opening bid amount will be disqualified. Each successive bid must equal or exceed the minimum bid increment stated on the bid sheet in order to constitute a valid bid. è At closing of bidding, the last dollar amount entered on the bid sheet constitutes the winning bid, and will be marked by an Auction official. The decision of the officials will be final. è All items purchased in the Silent Auction must be picked up the day of the fundraiser unless other arrangements have been made è All sales are final. è Service must be used within one year from the date of this event, unless specified. Auction Guidelines Bidding Procedures for Live Auction è The bidder may enter a bid by raising his/her bidder number so that the auctioneer can see it. è The Auctioneer will determine the highest bidder, and on his call title for the item will pass to the winner. The Auctioneer’s decision is final. In the event of a dispute, the Auctioneer and Auction Chair will have sole and final authority to determine the successful bidder for the item or to resell it. Tournament Qualifications Play è Play five hands of blackjack to qualify for the Blackjack Tournament. è Each player is given $1,200 in chips to begin each round. The object is to accumulate enough chips to qualify for the Tournament. è Only the seven highest chip totals from all the rounds will play in the Tournament. Each player can only qualify once, but you can play as many times as you like to qualify. So, check the board throughout the evening. Blackjack Tournament è Each player is given $1,200 in chips to begin the tournament and seven hands are dealt in the tournament. è A player must bet each hand. Minimum bet is $100. è All betting is in increments of $100. è There will be one table chip count after hand #4. è Seating is determined by the Qualification Round chip totals. The highest total has the 1st choice of seat locations, then all others select in descending order. In the event of a tie, the 1st player who earned their tying chip total is the higher rated player and has preference of choice. Otherwise, ranking will be determined by a coin flip. è Tournament play will continue until there is only one player left or seven hands have been dealt. è The winner is determined by the highest chip accumulation. In the event of a tie, play will continue, one hand at a time with a chip count after each hand. After any subsequent hand the player with the highest total of all others at the table is the winner. This is the fifth of only ten Artist’s Proofs created under the approval of the artist. Victoria Brown 2 Handmade Elevation Desk The elevation desk, made and donated by Mark Palmquist, is made of American black walnut, cherry and maple racing stripes. The frame is solid American curly maple and constructed with bridle joints. The base has 2 positions creating either a 25"tall desk or a 29' tall desk. No tools are required to change the height of the desk! Simply rotate the base. Mark is an independent furniture designer and craftsman and builds custom pieces in his wood studio in Frederick. He is an industrial designer with additional training in furniture design from the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen, Denmark and has refined his woodworking skills at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine. More details at www.belizeisfun.com ECI Development LIVE AUCTION 4 “Orange Square” Painting by Abstract Expressionist Rivers Scott Fisher Created in 2011 this painting has been part of the artist’s private collection since. Exhibited in several solo shows it has hung in the offices of Hagerstown Magazine for 1 year. The painting also was featured in an episode of ABC's hit reality show Wife Swap. The featured mansion was outfitted with Fisher’s work. The painting is outfitted with a custom frame created by sculptress Vienne Rea who resides in Baltimore, MD. Rivers Scott Fisher is an Abstract Expressionist painter also living in Baltimore MD. His works have been displayed at the Washington Museum in Washington County MD and he is the creator of the DIRTY WATER Series. DIRTY WATER is based on the creative lifework of Baltimore-­‐native, filmmaker, author and photographer John Waters. The series is a collection of original works of art that showcase Abstract Expressionism combined with an additional method of printmaking. The Early 3’s class begins their experience at Lucy discovering the joys of nature, learning and creating which begins with objects from nature. Nature’s gifts become building materials, musical instruments and characters. Children gathered sticks, painted them and worked together to create a heart to symbolize love of nature, learning and each other. The result is a lovely wall hanging treasure.

Each group of colors represents an individual child. The names of the children are represented beneath the tree and the leaves are fingerprints! The big red barn is showcased and each window panel features a hand drawn representation of the students’ favorite thing to do at Lucy School. 11 “If The World Were a Village” Ms. Deb and Lauren’s Kindergarten Class Project What would our village look like? Kindergarten, separated into two classes, has spent the entire year learning, playing, exploring, and discovering together as one. This wonderful opportunity has taught the children to make connections, fostered worldly-­‐minded thoughts, and encouraged passion for our community. When asked to describe what a community looks like, the children of Lucy School kindergarten proposed that we create a world. Standing hand in hand, the young minds of Lucy School depict themselves encircling the world, casting light on the togetherness of our kindergarten community now and forever. Come and see the children of our village!! 12 “Watercolor Weaving” Ms. Jill’s 1st Grade Class Project The First Graders worked with Ms. Andrea to learn various painting techniques using watercolor. They used these various techniques to paint strips of watercolor paper that were then woven together. The result is a beautiful piece of framed artwork that would brighten up any room in your home or office! LIVE AUCTION 13 “Epic Pillow” Mr. James’ 2nd Grade Class Project Compared to a bean bag this roomful of pillow is constructed by quilting colorful upholstery swatches together. On each swatch, a second grader has embroidered their initials, their symbol from the beginning of the year, and other colorful designs. Filled with packing peanuts (a post-­‐consumer recycled material) and closed with a zipper, the pillow will serve as a fun, easy to clean reading nook in and of itself! 14 “Thirteen Flowers” Ms. Chris’ 3rd Grade Class Project Ms. Chris's class created a piece of artwork blooming with color and beauty. Brightly colored flowers adorn the edges of this large canvas. Using the artwork as inspiration, the students worked together to create a poem about Spring. Each student contributed one word and then they all worked together to assemble the words into a cohesive poem. This work of art is a symbol of our class; strong, beautiful individuals who work together to create a vibrant learning community. 15 “Trees of Lucy School” Ms. Sasha’s 4th and 5th Grade Class Project The 4th and 4th graders chose their favorite Lucy School trees to decorate a beautiful lamp shade. Then, reflecting on their time at Lucy School, they composed a poem which is featured on the base of the lamp.
