We are pleased to provide our annual report for 2010 and hopes this gives all of our supporters a year end look as to how you are helping change lives at CACDC. Since our agency moved into our facility in Lewisville in June 2009, we have seen a steady increase in clients. From 2009 to 2010, we saw a 5% increase in forensic interviews and in counseling services. Meanwhile, the agency has enhanced its mission to include community education. In 2010, CACDC educated almost 5,000 people in group presentations about child sexual abuse and the work of the Center. With the increased community awareness has also come an increase in the number of children being identified as possible victims of abuse. Meanwhile, our county continues to grow rapidly with new families moving here daily. Needless to say, we expect to see more families coming to us for help. The Board of Directors is committed to continuing to provide the best possible services and staff to fulfill our mission. We are fortunate to have stable staff leadership and experienced service providers who are dedicated to the children. Our county also has an outstanding team of law enforcement, nurses, Child Protective Services staff, and prosecutors working alongside our staff to provide justice and healing. We thank you for your support and advocacy on our behalf. We are in need of donations and more passionate people to get involved. It is our hope that one day soon our numbers will decrease because as I’m sure you will agree, “one abused child is too many”. The Board of Directors and staff look forward to working with you to put an end to this epidemic so that our children, our most precious resource, will be safe. Who are We? The Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County provides a safe, child-friendly environment where Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, District Attorney’s Office, SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners), and Licensed Counselors use a coordinated approach to the investigation, prosecution and treatment of severe child abuse cases. What Services Do We Provide? Forensic Interviews with a trained interviewer Therapy/Counseling (child and non-offending family member are enrolled in therapy program if needed) - Parent Group Counseling - Individual Therapy - Play Therapy - Pet Assisted Therapy Child Abuse Education and Prevention Classes Sexual Assault Medical Exams Coordination of investigation and treatment with partner agencies (law enforcement, CPS, District Attorney, Juvenile Probation, nurses, etc.) Food Pantry Clothing Assistance (we call it our “Pit Stop”) Crime Victim’s Compensation Assistance Agency Goals Reduce trauma experienced by child victims Hold offenders accountable for their crimes against children Dan Leal Executive Director R. You helped CACDC and it’s partner agencies bring 78 perpetrators to justice. In 2010... 2010 Alleged Perpetrators Stranger , 1% Justice... Parent, 23% Other Relative, 18% StepParent, 6% Step-Sibling, 15% You helped the agency provide 9,057 therapy sessions to children and their non-offending family members. Sibling, 7% Parent's Paramour, 6% Neglect, 1% Physical Abuse, 9% Witness, 5% Types of Abuse Sexual Abuse, 85% “Words cannot express our gratitude for everything you have done to help us heal.” --- Anonymous Client 3 Trained Forensic Interviewers at CACDC conducted 701 interviews of children suspected of being abused. Back to School Drive 68 families (161 children) were given the needed supplies to attend their first day of school. The community donated pencils, pens, glue, notebook paper, backpacks and more to start our clients off to a great school year. Thanksgiving Meal Drive 60 families (180 children) were provided canned goods and turkeys and much more to have a wonderful thanksgiving meal. Christmas Adopt-A-Family Drive 70 families (192 children) wishes came true through community donations. Gifts were plenty this past year for our clients. Krystal Powell, our Child Abuse Prevention Officer, trained 606 adults in 2010. This is now a part of the new mission of CACDC so that adults in the Denton Community know how to Prevent, Recognize and React responsibly to child abuse.
