One thing is certain: Katharina Reiff suffers from helper syndrome. But she is firmly resolved
not to react to every call for help that comes her way and concentrates instead on her
professional career. While her daughter, Nele, is busy getting used to her hard apprenticeship
as a fishmonger, Kathi swots up for her second juridical state exam at her mother's pension.
But the mysterious car accident involving Alexander, the new priest, thwarts Kathi's plans.
Larsen was sent to the island in order to dissolve the parish, but the clergyman appears
confused and not just since the accident. He has doubts about his vocation, struggles with
disbelief and alcohol and is obsessed with the idea the apocalypse is imminent. Is there
a connection between the planned closure of the church and the numerous fires Thies
Quedens has to extinguish as chief of the voluntary fire brigade? Katharina Reiff is unable
to stand idly by and begins to investigate…
