Instructors will use on-line learning tools such as discussion boards, videos, web sites, on-line collaboration and other methods combined with traditional, classroom-based instruction. It also provides the comfort of knowing that you will see your instructor on a weekly basis and that they are available for face-to-face meetings. After ensuring the machine is correctly connected, reboot and try again. 18 Pennsylvania Institute of Technology – Student Technology Account F.A.Q. How come I can’t log in to my student portal account? There are a few reasons why a student might experience difficultly logging on to their student portal account. 1) The most common reason is the fact that their student portal account ID is different from their network ID. To elaborate, the student's network ID is written as 10smith123, where their portal ID might be 10jsmith. While the network ID can be used to access webmail, the computers on both campuses and certain web-services (such as the Emergency Message System), it cannot be used to access the student portal. The student portal is a separate entity. If you want to know what your student portal ID is, please refer to this page (https://my.pit.edu/ITHelp/RetrieveAccounts.aspx). 2) Since the student portal is a separate account, it has a separate password. This means it's possible that a student forgot their password (which happens). To reset your portal password, go to the student portal (http://students.pit.edu/) and click 'forgot your password'. Note: The site may ask for your email address. This may or may not be your PIT email address. Often it'll be the email address that you gave to your admission representative when you first enrolled to the school, which might be a gmail, yahoo or hotmail account. So if the portal won't accept your PIT email, then try your personal email address. Retrieve Account Information If you need to retrieve any of your account info (School Email Address, Portal ID, Student Number) 1. 1. 2. 3. 4. Open your browser. Go to the College Resource Website (http://my.pit.edu) Select the menu option “Student Account Help” Select “Retrieve Student Accounts” Complete the form and click Submit. 19
