Passwords Guidelines
To ensure greater security, passwords must meet a minimum standard for complexity. This will help
prevent unauthorized use of your account through a “lucky guess.” Please use a mixture of
numbers, symbols, uppercase and lowercase characters when creating a new password. Also, make
your password at least six characters long.

P.I.T. maintains an Emergency Messaging System (EMS) to notify you if there is an emergency, such
as school closure due to weather. It is important to keep your information up to date, so you can be
notified in the event of an emergency.
If this is your first time logging in, you will automatically be prompted to update your EMS record
shortly after logging in. Press “OK” to the EMS prompt and enter at least one valid phone number
and email address.
Updating Your Contact Information:
1. Open a Web Browser

Your Personal Storage Space
P.I.T. maintains storage space on a server for students to save important documents and work. This
storage space is accessible over our network. Our computers see your personal storage space as a
drive. It is named “H:” for home directory. If you save work to “Documents” or “Desktop”, it is
only accessible on one computer. Work saved to the H: drive is accessible from any P.I.T.
computer on campus.
Accessing the “H:” Drive:
1.
Click Start.
2.
Select ‘Computer’.
3.
Click on the icon that says
“[Your UserID$] (\\pitstorage) (H:)”
Email

UserID, with the addition of “@pit.edu” at the end. You can access your email in two different ways.
If you use Microsoft Outlook version 2007 or 2010 from a P.I.T. computer, your profile should be
created automatically.
Webmail is another way to access your email, and is accessible from home as well. Webmail will
not work until you’ve completed your first login and selected a new password, as described on
pages 1 and 4.
Accessing Webmail
1. Open your Internet Browser.
2. Go to ‘http://my.pit.edu’
Click on the ‘Webmail’ button
1. Enter your Windows Username and
Password in the required fields.
2. If you’ve forgotten your password,
there is a link on this page to select a
new one, once you’ve entered
identifying information.
3. Click the “Sign in” button to sign in to
your email account.

e-P.I.T. Blended Learning
e-P.I.T. is a blended online/classroom learning option that provides the convenience and the
flexibility that many students need in their busy schedules. Students will attend approximately 90
minutes of in-class learning per week per class. The balance of the class will be fulfilled via online
activities.
Instructors will use on-line learning tools such as discussion boards, videos, web sites, on-line
collaboration and other methods combined with traditional, classroom-based instruction. It also
provides the comfort of knowing that you will see your instructor on a weekly basis and that they are
available for face-to-face meetings.
Open Classroom is an online learning management system that students will use as they navigate
through their Blended E-Learning class. Class information, such as syllabi, files, assignments, grade
books, and discussion boards are part of the learning management system.

Pennsylvania Institute of Technology – Student Technology Account F.A.Q.
How come I can’t log in to my student portal account?
There are a few reasons why a student might experience difficultly logging on to their student portal
account.
1) The most common reason is the fact that their student portal account ID is different from
their network ID.
To elaborate, the student's network ID is written as 10smith123, where their portal ID might
be 10jsmith. While the network ID can be used to access webmail, the computers on both
campuses and certain web-services (such as the Emergency Message System), it cannot be
used to access the student portal. The student portal is a separate entity.
If you want to know what your student portal ID is, please refer to this page
(https://my.pit.edu/ITHelp/RetrieveAccounts.aspx).
2) Since the student portal is a separate account, it has a separate password. This means it's
possible that a student forgot their password (which happens).
To reset your portal password, go to the student portal (http://students.pit.edu/) and click
'forgot your password'. Note: The site may ask for your email address. This may or may not
be your PIT email address. Often it'll be the email address that you gave to your admission
representative when you first enrolled to the school, which might be a gmail, yahoo or
hotmail account. So if the portal won't accept your PIT email, then try your personal email
address.
Retrieve Account Information
If you need to retrieve any of your account info (School Email
Address, Portal ID, Student Number)
1.
1.
2.
3.
4.
Open your browser.
Go to the College Resource Website (http://my.pit.edu)
Select the menu option “Student Account Help”
Select “Retrieve Student Accounts”
Complete the form and click Submit.
