The 2016 OWMA Truck Driving Championship had 61 drivers registered to participate in one of our
best events ever. This year’s event was held at the Waste Management of Canada Corporation
facility in Brampton — an excellent day for all drivers and guests.

Thank you to Waste Management of Canada Corporation for their generosity in providing the
facility to hold the 2016 Truck Driving Championship and Miller Waste Systems who supplied
their equipment for the competition. These events are not possible without the very generous
support from all our members—the drivers, the equipment, the judging, the sponsorship, the
trucks, and especially the spectators.
Putting Safety First is our top priority. The Ontario Waste Management Association wants to work
with you to improve safety. Every year preventable accidents needlessly happen when pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles come in close
contact to our vehicles. Let’s work together and
stay safe. Help us prevent accidents by keeping a

smoothly – for our many supporters who come out year after year to “cheer” on their favourites –
thank you again for your continued support. The OWMA would also like to thank all of our
members who generously donated to the event—the Driver’s Gift; thank you Waste Management of Canada Corporation. Also an informal round-up at the East Side Mario’s—thank you to
Progressive Waste Solutions Canada (Gold Sponsor). Enbridge and Miller Waste Systems
(Silver Sponsor) for sponsoring the event—it was a great success which the drivers thoroughly enjoyed!
The OWMA would very much like to recognize the efforts of the Committee members and their
companies who work very hard all year long to ensure a smooth operation, an appropriate location
and a fair competition. We would like to extend special thanks to Milt Hiles, Ludwig and Deb
Biliko and Dan Sebele — Progressive Waste Solutions, Bill O’Meara – Miller Waste Systems,
Craig Nelson – GFL Environmental and the many other volunteers who provided their time and
support.
Also to all other category drivers and winners – congratulations on a job well done – the category
winners received their plaques and ‘prizes’ along with the respect and admiration of their
companies, competitors and the over 200 people who attended the event.
A very special thank you to the following companies who donated their trucks for the setup on
Friday and the competition on Saturday – without their support and very generous contribution,
there would be no competition:
