lder drivers with cataracts, even only in one eye, have a greatly
increased risk of car crashes according to a study published in
the national journal Archives of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Cynthia Owsley, and other researchers at the University of
Alabama, studied 274 older drivers.
Even though most of these older drivers with cataracts thought
that they saw perfectly, they were six times more likely to have
automobile accidents.
Their vision, as measured by vision charts, did not predict which
older drivers were likely to be involved in accidents.
