I look forward to meeting fellow MBH members at upcoming tournaments. Indoor season is in full swing. We have already been to the MBH Vegas 450, Presley's, and Iowa Pro Am. We missed the Kansas City Shoot Out because we were all four sick...at the same time. Right now we are getting ready to go to Las Vegas for the World Archery Festival. This will be our first time there, but I know of several other MBH members that will be there to help guide us. I have been very impressed with the number of shooters representing Missouri and how well they have been shooting. The B of R meeting was held at the end of January with several clubs represented. I feel bad for not being able to attend, but we had ice on the roads that morning. I do know that the election votes were counted which resulted in me being elected President, Ryan Fitzgerald is Vice President, and Steve & Candy Bridger are Treasurer and Secretary. The upcoming tournaments were discussed. We are in need of someone to run the tournament at the Missouri Deer Classic. Anyone willing to volunteer please contact one of the MBH officers. Plans are also in the works for the State shoot. We also need volunteers for set up on the Friday before the tournament. I would like to thank the out going officers, they have done a great job and I hope to continue where they left off. I encourage all of you to thank them for their dedication to the sport of archery. Again I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can so please feel free to introduce yourself when you see me out and about. Archery and Media: A Possible Match? Archery has seen lots of publicity over the last year, there is no doubt. Between TV, movies, and the Olympics were all very great opportunities to grow the sport in leap and bounds. But what is the common denominator of these things? They get the sport of archery out to the masses. Not only that, but they all do it through a type of media. Let us look at the this year and really look hard at the possibilities we can take advantage of to grow archery. that provides coverage of archery tournaments and other aspects of the sport. Their live coverage of these tournaments and events can be found on Facebook and Twitter along with video shortly after the action is over. They do an exceptional job and I anticipate great growth for them in the near future. Events submitted for the Calendar must not conflict with MBH state events (unless scheduled in advanced) CONSERVATION COMMITTEE Statewide archery deer harvest totals have been published by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the result is 2012-13 was a new record season for archers in Missouri. Archery hunters harvested 53,997 deer during the four month season. That’s a 2.5% increase from last year’s record harvest. Permit sales also increased by 4.9% to 202,421 archery hunting permits. Missouri Bow Hunters topped 50,000 deer harvested for the third time in the last 4 years. Something interesting happened this season with regard to the top archery harvest counties. For the previous 4 seasons the top counties have all been suburban St. Louis and Kansas City counties. For the 2012-13 seasons we have a new addition to the top three counties. Camden County placed third this season with a harvest of 1,062 deer. Camden County is in the Lake of the Ozarks area with cities like Camdenton and Osage Beach located within that county. I know for a fact that Missouri Bow Hunter Lifetime member Jack Davis has been working with the City of Camden to increase the archery hunting opportunities there. This season Jack harvested 4 deer in Camden County. I know that because Jack took the time to send me his Large Game Reports. Those same reports over the years have been used to help open up archery hunting opportunities in other parts of the state as well. We can present data to city officials from actual archery hunting harvests that document things like average distance of shots taken and how far the deer traveled after the shot. Opening up more archery hunting opportunities close to home where firearm hunting is not an option helps control the deer population in our urban and suburban areas. That in turn reduces vehicle-deer collisions and other property damage that an overpopulation of deer can cause. supporting as well as taking part in Conservation here in Missouri. Just because everything is good now doesn’t mean it will always be that way. The “Good Ole Days” of Missouri’s Archery Hunting are right now! Lets all keep it going by doing our part as Missouri Bow Hunter members and promoting our club, archery hunting, and Stay informed about Conservation happenings in Missouri and be a part of the process when you can. Finally I hope to see you at this year’s DEER CLASSIC in Columbia on March 1st & 2nd. Bring your Large Game Reports from this past season and get any antlers from the 2012-13 season scored so they can be entered into MBH’s annual Big Buck Contest. Happy Bow Hunting Jeff Blystone [email protected] NODAHO BOW HUNTERS, INC. Are you ready for some A-R-C-H-E-R-Y!?!? Like it or not, a very busy archery season is upon us! Clubs all over Missouri are having their tournaments. Vegas is right around the corner followed by Sectionals, State and Nationals. If “indoor archery” isn’t your thing, you don’t have to wait too long or travel too far to find a 3-D or Field shoot. Time to get off the couch, travel some and socialize with archers from across the state, nation and even world – no excuse for Winter doldrums, and Spring can’t be too far behind. Nodaho held our January 300 NFAA or 360 Vegas tournament on January 12 & 13. We had a good crowd in spite of losing a few of our regulars to the Iowa Pro-Am. I see several Missouri names who either won or placed high in their classes at this prestigious shoot – way to go Missouri archers! Our results can be found on our web site www.nodahobowhunters.com or on facebook. Our next shoot, again a 300 NFAA Round or 360 Vegas, will be held on February 9 & 10. If you don’t plan on going to Las Vegas we hope you can join us – it is our final indoor tournament of the year since the State shoot falls on our March weekend and many of us will be traveling to Linn to participate. Hope to see you soon!
