Chamber Executives leading the classes were Parker Hardy, CCE of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Elaine Bodenweiser, Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce, Frank Tamberrino, Maury Alliance, George Halford, Cookeville Chamber of Commerce. The State Welcome Centers do a great job letting the inbound visitors to Gatlinburg know what our town has to offer. Three Cheers For Foothills Wholesale Furniture! FOOTHILLS WHOLESALE FURNITURE atlinburg is acclaimed as one of the 100 top vacation towns in the country in a new guidebook. The Great Towns of America by David and Joan Vokac was written with both travelers and urban escapists in mind. Gatlinburg was described by the authors as “a rollicking blend of Southern mountain culture and recreation.” The Vokacs also say that “Gatlinburg’s studios, galleries and specialty shops house a treasury of authentic mountain crafts and collectibles. Downtown is a panoply of playful pursuits ranging from bizarre to memorable - like the aquarium.” They make special note of the accommodations where “plentiful lodgings often capture the romance of this frolicsome place with adult-pleasing features like fireplaces, streamside balconies, and whirlpool tubs.” Vokac and his wife devoted two years and 80,000 miles criss-crossing the nation in search of the hundred best from among 221 semi-finalist communities. Their rigorous fieldwork in every great town resulted in a comrehenive guidebook full of concise, accurate descriptions of the prime attractions, restaurants and lodgings in each selected town.
